TV rights staying with 9/Fox

I'm pretty sure I heard that the 4pm slot for Sunday games on 9 will remain the same. All I want is the opportunity to see the Finals games, the Grand Final and Origin games live on Fox. Can't they BOTH air the games so it truly is shown live nationally? We pay a Foxtel subscription just so we can see rugby league but when it comes to the big games - we lose out. :bash

Reading between the lines I'm hoping the new agreement means nine will show them on Gem or Go… They aren't specific but it would make sense.

although i really hate all the ads on nine if they couldnt jam thrm in like they do the rights would not mean as much to them thus the dollars would be alot lower. so while yes they are very annoying they are here to stay. They get all their money from advertises who jsut love their adds to be in prime time viewing.

While i'm sick of 9 and their half hearted coverage and stale commentators but I don't think it is that bad of a deal. It is good really. All clubs will have plenty of money to improve themselves and ensure their futures. Hopefully the money can be used to subsidise some ticket prices and make it more affordable for families to get to games and make memberships a bit cheaper.

Looks like news have also given up their rights to first and last bids. That was in place until 2020 or something I think wasn;t it?

"Very significantly, and a factor that played heavily in the Commission's final decision, is the release of Nine, Fox, and most particularly News, over all their rights in regard to future agreements.

Graeme Hughes on talkinsport asked interim CEO ?? Shane Maytiste ?? if a network (TEN) had offered to broadcast 4 games LIVE on FTA.

He refused to answer point blank

Hughes just came back, had been in contact with TEN….they confirmed they put the package ''Fri nite LIVE, Sat nite LIVE, Sun nite LIVE & Mon nite Live on the table and it was knocked back

Obviously they wanted to squeeze as much money as they could out of the new deal but the poor fans that can't afford foxtel will still only get 1 live game a round. Would be interesting to know how much less ten were offering, GH just announced that he spoke to someone from ten who confirmed they offered to show 4 games live.

Is this the same Graeme Hughes and Talkin Sport team that have spent the last few years whinging and bitching that David Gallop (since he seemed akin to the devil in their eyes) under-sold the game with the last deal??? These guys will continue to complain about everything the ARLC or NRL do until they get to commentate games on the radio.

2 hours of FTA rugby league content every day.
I wonder what this involves.

Yep…..$$$$ over content

If it is true about Ten offerring Friday Live ,Saturday Live, Sunday Live and Monday Live what the hell is The ARLC even thinking about ,especially if they matched Nine dollar offer

Typical , they might change who is in the seats at NRL / ARLC headquarters but they still make decisions based on money not the fans

I sometimes wonder why i am a rugby league supporter Lets charge the fans more for everything and then treat them like crap and still expect them to keep coming to games ,buying jerseys ,being members etc etc etc

Probably repeats of 20 years of the footy show.

Dead set if 10 offered 4 live free to air games on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights the new commision should be sacked for not taking it.

I wish I could afford foxtel but as a single income family with 2 kids under 4 there is no way I can. As someone who has watched league for over 30 years I am p!ssed off that I can watch 4 live games of AFL on free to air tv every week in Sydney and only 1 live league game. They should be amashed of the new deal that offers very little to the true rugby league fan.

Absolutely SCT. Spot on

As a QLDer I rarely make it to many games in a year, 2 If lucky, (Brisbane v tigers, GC v tigers)
So I try to catch as many on TV as possible, 4 live games for free would have suited me as a fan of the NRL and I believe more viewers for their benefit.

Unfortunately, the current financial state of the game isn't pretty, and it seems that the ARLC had to maximise the the amount of money they could get for this deal.

In my personal position, I couldn't care less if there were no FTA games and Foxtel took them all, but I understand that not everyone has Foxtel so I can empathise with their concerns that the FTA portion of the deal.

The promising thing about this deal is that Fox and Nine both lose their first and last rights, so we should see better terms and conditions negotiated next time and the right value for the game.

This was a mere stepping stone. The game needs to squeeze as much cash out of this deal to move forward. Hopefully they set a reasonable ceiling on the salary cap so that the club grants aren't outstripped by players earnings, so all clubs can become viable. If clubs still fail to do so by the end of this deal, they should be booted.

Oh no nine's delayed elongated sunday replay remains and there is no option to choose between which Friday night game one would like to watch :bash

I was really Impressed with Farah's comments about
1\. Bringing the minimum wage up
2\. Providing compulsory income protection for players

I can see your point, but when the game becomes less accessible to those without Foxtel it puts the game at risk.

Already we have seen the AFL move into RL Heartland, steal Folau and Hunt and not only do they show 4 live games, but some during the day so future players and fans of the game get a chance to watch them.

In my circle of friends and their kids, there is only one boy who plays rugby league, while there are 4 that play Aussie Rules. Where I sit, I don't see much happening to defend the game.

Lets hope the commission does something for the grass roots to ensure the longevity of this great game.

Looks like the only Improvement was money
Nrl is basically a prostitute where the nine network offered a large some of money to have their way with the nrl
