Tyson Gamble

There is comment about him on the Raiders' forum. Even at this stage, he is a better prospect than Brock Lamb. His career path at WTs looks good.

I don't know about that, Brock Lamb did a pretty good job at NRL level at the back end of last season. He has a really good short kicking game. I think Lamb will go well wherever he ends up and he should be the #1 target for the Raiders. Gamble may well end up better when he's given a shot but Lamb has more runs on the board at this stage.

I like the idea of Tyson given a go at centre in the ISP.

If we get an injury to Masters or Kevin we might be short of options.

Some great players in the past have played centre whilst biding their time for their favourite position.

Appears to have all the attributes to make a quality centre

No surprise the raiders are talking about him Paws.

I also wouldnt rule out Manly he would look great with DCE.

Im with you Tigerdon, he could do a job at centre. I really like the idea of him being an Elijah Taylor type back row also.

HI Patriot
Here is a little gossip that I heard the other day in Brisbane. Tyson was asked by IC to commence with the West Tigers at the time he signed the contract last year in early May - one month before Tui came over. (And well before Reynolds.) It appears that IC wanted to groom him as our 5/8 over last season. He had commitments such as his apprenticeship and decided to wait for the end of the year. I wonder what would have happened if he had taken the offer. I agree with playing with DCE but Nikorima is not going too well up North and Milford will be looking for a partner when Walters takes over. Personally, I would hate to see him in the second row: it would remove the threat caused by his short kicking game.

Isn't Gamble signed for 3 years…?

Not sure if you want someone who is going to bail if a better offer comes along. ...

Our club is on the up from front office to the footy dept …Gamble has shown he is a sensible and thinking adult can not see him jumping ship at the first offer made to leave the club ... there will be plenty of opportunities down the track .. the hammy bros will see to that !

Snake - yes he is a sensible young man - too sensible for my liking. At the age of 18 he was offered a development contract with Cronulla but listened to his parents and mentors in Brisbane and decided to commence an apprenticeship. He could have had front running as our 5/8 last year but decided to be sensible and wait for the year end. I think that it is time for Tyson to be totally selfish and start to look after himself. If an offer came up to play FG he should take it with both hands and stop being sensible: be selfish I say.

I may be wrong but he seems a bit slow. Maloney, Milford, Marshall and co all have good running games. I just haven't seen it with Lamb.

If a player wants to go somewhere when the going gets a little tough, let them leave.

Sooner or later they need to discover that the accolades that come from being part of a winning group are much better than when they come for individual excellence.

Footy isn't forever, finishing his apprenticeship was a smart move. Only ever potentially one tackle away from the centrelink queue. He'll play first grade at some point, whether it's for us or someone else is the only question.

I still think that in the future he would be the best pairing with Brooks or even Cleary (if we can snare Nathan).

Would hate to lose him at this stage, but lots of the young fellas get impatient and ambitious.

Maybe clubs would be looking at Quadja rather than someone completely untested at NRL level like Gamble.

I too wouldn't mind Gamble getting a go at left centre in ISP. If Liddle becomes starting hooker again soon, with Benji on the bench, then Godinet could drop down to 5/8 in ISP, with McIlwrick at hooker, Quadja at half.

In the couple of ISP games I have watched this year, he appears to 'go missing' at points in the game. For me, he still has some work to do at this level before he is ready for NRL. I may be wrong - I haven't seen a lot of him, but that is my observation to this point in time.

Very interesting Freddy.

I think he made the right decision. Would have been a tough decision but it shows he has his priorities right.

Freddy given this information it makes you wonder what part Gamble being on board had in Cleary withdrawing Mitchel Moses's contract.

Lets not get too carried away. Cleary had a player in mind, but i doubt it was Gamble. Id say its the other 5/8 he signed the week after he was appointed.

Of course you would have that opinion.

I notice none of your mates have even responded to Freddys statement here. Its a pretty big statement in the grand scheme of things. Not the usual forum opinion, actual information. . . .

Cleary took Moses contract off the table, and a week later, Reynolds was signed. Then Marshall was signed on top of that.

Friend just sent me verification of his statement …. as reported

"Gamble, who played in the Dolphins’ Brisbane Rugby League (BRL) side last year and got the Don McLennan Trophy for best player in the grand final, had the opportunity to join the Tigers this year, but decided to wait until next year – hopefully after helping the Dolphins to ISC grand final glory."
