Uate?

The word is Akila Uate is on the outer at Newcastle, worth the effort to add him to our backline? Thoughts please?

So Newcastle, without doubt the worst team in the comp this year, drop one of their highest paid players to NSW CUP and barely any ripples are made in the media…..no speculation, no criticism…nothing….its just accepted that the coach has the right to pick and choose the team

Yet with JT and the Tigers the media just love to scrutinise and speculate every move JT makes with the team….not fair game IMO

I've got mail that we are interested. He's very good friends with Frozone who is suggesting the move as Uate is no longer happy at Newcastle.

Pretty poor comparison.
Uate is playing poorly in a bad team.
Taylor is mucking around a current SOO player, life member and (former) captain.

To be honest, even though I don't love Uate, if we could pick him up cheap I don't think it would be a horrible option. We could do with a winger that knows how to score tries, and even with his faults, he knows how to score (110 tries from 160 games).

Apparently he's on around $500k per year. We pay, say $200k, Newcastle pay the rest. I wouldn't have a problem with that at all. It's a risk that I think is worth taking. He's only 28 and a change of scenery might do him good.

Not for me….I'd rather we spend $200k elsewhere...his defensive reads are terrible

A few years ago, sure. But now? No. He'd be no better than our current backs. And we've already got them contracted so why bother spending more money to get the same as what we've already got?
