Under the pump: 5 Tigers who must deliver in 2014

I did not write this i got it from this website : http://tigernationnrl.blogspot.com.au/

2014 shapes as an important season for the Wests Tigers. Much has changed since 2011 when the club last made the top eight. A disappointing 2013 was largely highlighted by an exciting crop of youngsters who showed potential to be long term players for the club. In 2014 though, the pressure valve will be on others to lead by example and perform well.

Below are 5 players who simply need to perform this season. If they don't, they'll find themselves looking for a new club next season or at least wishing they could. Others will simply have the weight of expectation on them to lead the team into a better place this season.
\
\
5\. **Robbie Farah** - Captain Farah is going nowhere. He is our marquee man, our franchise player. However in 2014 the team needs him to continue his great form. His leadership is second to none, so the example he sets is not of concern. What is of concern though is the ability of the team to play off Farah. It's pretty obvious that if we're to win games, Robbie will be relied on to come up big when it counts.
\
\
The Key to success: Robbie needs to be busy. When he's busy it seems to rub off on others. His decision making needs to be spot on too, as does his trust in other key personnel. Robbie can't do it all on his own. The moment he tries, the side will fail.
\
\
\
4\. **Luke Brooks** - It's a little unfair to put Luke Brooks under any pressure, but the fact is that in the NRL, all players will be under pressure to perform. Brooks clearly has the skills to do a job and in the best case scenario he will make a positive difference for the Tigers. Luke just needs to worry about what he needs to do. If he does that, then 2014 will be a success for him.
\
\
The Key to success: Luke just needs to worry about his own game. Yes, that's clichéd, but it's also true. He has the skills but not yet the experience. The ride WILL be bumpy. So long as his organizational skills show advancement and he learns to run the football and play the percentage. He'll be fine.
\
\
\
3\. **Chris Lawrence** - Lawrence by his own admission has had a disappointing past 2 seasons. Injuries have hampered him to a large extent and we really haven't seen him near his best. However, at his best he is a definite rep calibre player. His pre season so far has been great. He is fit and from all reports firing! This is good news for all because Lawrence brings experience and a professional attitude to the table. If he can keep injury free, I reckon we see Lawrence begin to show his best again.
\
\
The Key to success: I can't help but think the key here is fitness. Chris has the quality. He has the experience but the ability to remain fit has deserted him in recent seasons. At his best, he is a devastating centre with a real knack for hitting holes and crossing try lines. What we'd all give to see this again.

**This was written before Moltzen got injured**

2 - **Tim Moltzen** - 2014 shapes up as massive for Tim Moltzen. A player who'll be relied upon more than ever before, now that Benji Marshall has gone. Moltzen's biggest issue has been consistency. He shows flashes of good football here and there, but usually no more. Injuries have set him back hugely in recent seasons. A fractured knee cap will have him starting behind the 8 ball yet again for this season. The emergence though of Mitchell Moses and the arrival of Blake Austin, both younger, mean Moltzen is fast running out of opportunities. If he has future here, he needs to make sure of it!
\
\
The Key to success: First and foremost, it's fitness too. Moltzen has had too many issues in recent seasons. so good fitness is the foundation for improvement. After that, Molzten really needs to find continuity in where he is positioned in the team. Some say he was burdened by the poisoned chalice of the "utility" tag by Tim Sheens. So continuity is important for him

\
1- **Adam Blair** - Much has been said about Adam Blair in the media. Comparisons of his form here and that of his time in Melbourne certainly don't add up well. Things though did improve a little in the second half of 2013, and in 2014 the onus on Blair is heavier than ever before. His leadership will be vital. His work rate crucial. Blair has two more seasons to go on his so-called "Big money" contract and more than ever, his side needs him. One gets the feeling this is his "Stand and deliver" year.
\
\
The Key to success: One of Blair's biggest criticism's has been his work rate. So keeping that high is a great place to start. This season though, more than ever before, his experience will be vital. As a senior figure, he is crucial to the younger players. I do think Blair will thrive in this role and hopefully it reflects in his form. At his best, he is a rep player without doubt!

My 5 would

Blair
Lawrence
Keefy
BMM
Patterson

If these blokes don't shape up we need to flick them

I left Moltzen of the list because I think he won't be resigned no matter what he does

IMO my 5 would be.

1\. Chris Lawrence- Lets see how he goes this year he said he got injured pretty early on last season.
2\. Adam Blair- It's been 2 years and still he has done almost jack s**t.
3\. Ben Murdoch-Masila- He has the potential he just needs to be consistent
4\. Keith Galloway- He has been injured alot lately and he needs to show us why we re-signed him.
5\. Bodene Thompson- He has literally done jack s**t, I really thought he would be a good signing when we signed him but boy was i wrong…

My 5 cents, well three cents - as I only have three which really stand out to mind - Moltzen for mind is injured, and it's not fair to critique last year, as when he FINALLY started to show some heart, he got snapped - which is why I haven't included him.

**1\. Chris Lawrence** - 2 seasons of niggle and injury, I think just for his own head space, he needs to rip it up. Needs to regain his pace, and his smarts, he made some completely boneheaded moves in defense last year which surprises me for someone I know for a fact got a higher that 90 HSC only 7 years ago.

Needs to show the qualities that have had a few people calling for him to be Captain after Farah eventually finishes up.

**Ben Murdoch Masila** - We keep saying the same things about potential with this guy, but he's now going into his 5th year in the "finding his potential" category wilderness - It's crazy.

Needs to catch the ball, and if all reports are true, fix his attitude - he could be anything, and when he's on the quality he shows is absolutely ridiculous.

**Keith Galloway** - Despite playing for Australia, I don't think he's ever really stepped up in potential - Seems to get dominated in tackles more often than not, doesn't have an offload in his game, and and goes on holidays for approx 6-8 weeks a year during the middle of the season.

1\. Blair - cost us a heap of money and players to boot. Talks as if its not his fault either

2\. Galloway - a front rower who can't take the contact. Half season performer.

3\. BMM - will be a hit at another club and blame everyone here for his poor form. Who does that remind you of?

4\. Anasta - not all his fault considering he is a 5/8 and bought here when we had a marquee player in that position FFS.

5\. Buchanan - yep only a young fella who played his heart out last year but I just don't see him in the picture if others perform as expected. Probably shouldn't be on this list as he would only be on "peanuts".

5b. Agree with Happy, moltzen won't be resigned no matter what. Should have honoured his contract with Saints.

1\. Lawrence - needs to show that he can still be an attacking force post his hip injury. If he gets his confidence back, his decisions in defense will improve
2\. Blair - needs to get his aggression back, the type we saw at the battle of brookvale. He's playing like a fairy at the moment.
3\. Thompson - I don't really care if he's a "good trainer" or the best bench presser. He needs to start doing something on the field
4\. Anasta - plain and simply, he needs to make up for 2013, which was a woeful season from him
5\. Halatau - needs to prove that he deserves a first grade spot, as I'm not sure he does. He seems like a quality guy and comes with a lot of experience. But we already have a small experienced forward in Fulton

God, I thought Bodene Thompson had left?! That's the impact he has had on me….
I don't really understand the criticism BMM has been getting. Last season I thought he did really well and was emerging as a quality player. In all fairness though, if he does have a bad attitude then that is no good for the club and he could vanish a la Dane Laurie, which would again be a huge shame.

Yeh the BMM criticism has been weird. One of our best last season. Late season people were citing BMM's revival as an example of why Potter should be retained. Not sure why the opinions have changed.

Yeh I thought BMM improved late too

They all need to step up…all of em...if that happens its a moral we climb the ladder significantly

he was good in the back end, but that's not enough for me to say okay let's resign him. I wanna see more of that and more in 2014 and then i'll be happy for him to sign a 2 or 3 year contract.

rewatching the dragons game, bodene was a FANTASTIC defender there, 1 or 2 really good one on ones, mighta been try savers too. And generally jumping outta the line to make a good first hit. Combined with potter picking him out as a top performer in the offseason (over people like siro and fults) makes me think he could really hit his stride, especially with the new personel.

1\. Farah - needs to play direct and remain focused as a dummy-half. He needs to let others run the plays or allow another option on the bench to play his role while he is playing someone elses.

2\. Lawrence - A fit Chris Lawrence with a potent option outside him [Simona] should see Chris running into holes again. We have missed this for 2 years through his injuries and the fact he was continually getting poor service from his halves. He also needs to be a leader in defence and remain focused for 80min.

3\. Woods - Like Robbie, Aaron needs to remain focused on his role first and foremost and should not be apart of the on-field leadership group. Rip in Kid!

Shape up or ship them out, no more excuses….....

1\. Adam Blair
2\. Chris Lawrence
3\. Keith Galloway
4\. Ben Murdoch-Massila
5\. Braith Anasta

No more room for sentiment. Potter knows this year will make or break him.
Shedding these guys if they don't perform will free up a big chunk of salary cap (assuming little or no payouts). At least two marqee type players worth.

individually it's a massive season for blair, anasta (probs his last), keefy and chris.

in order for the team to do well: farah, brooks and teddy (the spine) along with the collective effort of the forwards (not picking on anyone here.. one forward cant change the game, the all need to do well together) will shape our season.
