US Tennis

If anyone thinks Williams would beat ANY mens pro tennis player they are off their rocker.
There actually is a Universal Tennis Rating which uses a points system.
The top men rate as level 16.
The 500th ranked male player is a 15.
Most of the men ranked on the computer below 1000 (down to 2200 around where the rankings stop), are either 14 or 15.
Serena Williams is rated as 13 - equivalent to a mid-level male college player.
And she wants equality without having to play 5 setters.

We are not discussing 2018 but about 2004 when Our Bamboo Lleyton was no. 1 and Serena's serve was probably faster than his.

Serena has stated that of course she can play five sets. She bases the claim on that the women's games attract as much gate takings as the male games.

I’d put my house on Lleyton to beat her now- and she can have the five sets to do it… with Robbie Farah playing one of Leyton’s sets for him.

I agree with you comparison of Williams to the men. She probably wouldn't win a set against any men on the main tour or satellite tours. But I think the five set argument is a furphy. Most men's tournaments these days are best of 3 sets. It's only the majors and a few other tournaments that are the best of 5 sets. And I'm quite sure the women could and would play the best of 5 if they had to. The best determinant of whether there should be equal pay in both-sex tournaments is drawing power. I don't know whether there's ever been any reliable measure of the relative drawing power of men and women.

What's happened to sportwomaship in Women's tennis. Does it really exist amongst the top women tennis players?

About income I don't know if it is a factor now but was Billie Jean King's day when the battle was on.

She did beat a bloke who was twice her age and the disparity between mens and womens prizes was far larger then than now

So the crowd boos st the presentation and the winner is reduced to tears
All class yanks and William's has no credibility whatsoever

Really?, what a joke they are. The poor girl has just beaten her idol and is no doubt struggling with the situation and then has to put up with that crap. _Serena has lowered herself and the crowd to a Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon like level._

Correction:
"Serena has lowered herself and the crowd to a Obama like level." or even better

"Serena has lowered herself and the crowd to a crooked Hillary like level."

 :deadhorse:

But Trumps mob are paid actors as proven recently when one student was expelled for not cheering hard enough nor wearing his red cap. I doubt Serena would have paid for thousands to attend with expensive ticket prices.

Oh Byron has already tarded up the thread?

She now has to pay a huge fine instead;

Just watched the report on the news. Me, me, me, me me.

Exactly, she has been like that for years.

And pretty quick to play the victim card too…

So much for dignity and sportsmanship.
