Utai hopes for Wests Tigers lifeline

im trying to stay positive about it but i just dont see the point…
yes i suppose he is a decent depth signing but we have pleanty of YOUNG talent that can easily play centre/wing better if not just as good as Utai.
if tigers want to start building towards the future this is the kind of signing we dont want to make.

to name a few that should be infront of Utai... Ryan/Brown/Daniela/Mullaney/**Roqica/Akeripa/Latu**
Do the tiges plan on signing because they think he can play a similar role to tuiaki? the bolded players are much younger and can do a great job of it..

Tigers should be doing all they can to resign Sama Sauvao, ive heard that he may not be with the club anymore but i have huge wraps on this kid. Our money would be much better spent on him!

I hate it when we do these damn fitzhenry signings...

Balmain Tiger I couldn't agree more…why oh why do the Tigers think they need Utai..??is Humprhreys and Sheens trying to appease our future coach in Folkes???

Completely agree BT. Latu killed it for the short period he was on the field last year. He should definitely be up there. He even showed more than Ryan or Brown for my mind.

I would even stick Koroibete and Tagive on that list. I haven't seen Nayarvovo play yet, but a possibility over Utai too.

I'm really not sure what Sheens is thinking.

My mind keeps flashing back to Jason the fireman and Jason had a lot more going for him than the bar fridge from Belmore. Take a punt and give one of the kids ago, we have had a fair bit of success from our juniors in recent years. I dont even see him as a bench player for our reggies

I don't understand this signing. Seems somewhat of a waste even for the State Cup teams.

**It wouldn't suprise me to see Ayshford pushed out to the wing this year at Ryans expense.** If that is a move Sheens is considering I'd hope it would only be to squeeze Moltzen at centre and Lui at halfback.

That would undo a year or two's worth of hard work imo….Blake is coming along fine now in the centres.

Give Utai a break...the hypocrisy in this joint is unbelievable, if a few criticise a certain player, everyone gets on their back about it....MU hasnt even pulled a jumper on yet but hes already written off as a waste.

I have never seen a player polarize opinion so much - WITHOUT actually playing a game.

No sorry, scratch that. A little unknown guy by the name of LOTE caused a massive fuss. and he's gone nowhere… :stuck_out_tongue:

however he was a marquee player - Friggin Utai is pretty much on Piggy Riddells old contract - second tier, probably won't get a run unless we are injured.

And people bringing up the high shot which got him sent off calling him a cheap thug - you may wish to look at some of the stuff Bryce Gibbs did during his early years at the tigers.... he wasn't exactly a rocket scientist in terms of giving away cheap penalties, and he DEFINITELY wasn't above thuggery.

Trust in Sheens.

Trust in Folkes.

If he is shyte, he won't' play.

The amount of money he would have been brought in for would be equivalent to riddell, so those who want to see latu/brown/daniella/insert fringe centre-three-quarter get there contract bumped up will prob still get their wish - Tuiakis minimum wage deal will now open up another 55k on the salary cap for that kind of thing.

WEST Tigers have officially signed former Bulldog Matt Utai to a one-year deal.

Following his impressive trial form, Tigers officials have agreed to give the 29-year-old a life-line which is understood to be largely incentive based.

im happy with the signing. his current forms warrants it. i agree with sheens on this one.

haha his current form warrants it !!! Whats he done to earn a contract,?? played in a loosing trial game. come on.

Where has he been allocated, to the Magpies or Bret, he's on bugger all so he'll really have to perform to crack a NRL position, I'm not really a fan of his signing but anything to help put pressure on Beau Knows the better, especially when it's so cheap a signature.
And to think that he could have been with us in 2010 as The Fonz & Co wanted him without the transfer fee!.
I still have memories however of a 2002 game at the Showground when Utai was supposedly at the most powerful stage of his career and little Lincoln Withers sat him on his arse time and time again to help win a huge upset against the salary cap rorting Lakemba Puppies.

Lincoln Withers, best half-back hitman I ever saw. Can't forget when he launched himself at a giant brisbane(?) forward at Parra stadium and put himself in hospital!

ahhhh Lincoln Withers…..that brings back memories...great defender...no vision in attack...a bit like John Morris....

not just his current form but his past form also especially in the doggie era. I dont belive its all about utai either - whats more important to me is what sheens is going to make of him. I think Utai has a premiership ring already - i just have to give him kudo's for knowning where to come to get another one. For me its like the Melbourne Cup - you pick a horse and hope for the best - Utai is the same-he has a track record and knows where the finish line is. And if we lose at least we didnt lose much. And if he were a horse i dont think he would be ready to be put down.
