Val Holmes

Did anyone see when Flanno spoke of the way he structures his salary cap on fox he has 4 to 5 top players and he said the percent that it takes up of the cap can not remember the amout of it but no way Holmes is on over 650K after hearing Flanno talk Fifita is on 650K down there Flanno is very shrewd when spending the cap

They use the same accountant as the Rorters….

So it will come out in the media soon ?? What is classified as soon ?? Or is this just another gee-up of someone trying to big note themselves ??

But hey if it is true, I'm all for him to play either wing or fullback, a classy player and a silky smooth finisher with plenty of speed. When the ball gets to Holmes he always seems to make things happen, an excitement machine.

I can't find anything on Holmes being associated with the Tigers anywhere .. except for in here ??

Media links have already been posted in this thread.

No denying Holmes' ability - he is an awesome finisher and open field runner. As for a fullback - not so sure. As previous posters have pointed out, there is a lot more to the fullback role than the wing position (even nowadays, when the Wing position has certainly evolved greatly). It's a hard choice as to whether he is the right guy for us, or whether we need him at that sort of money, especially with Thomson playing so well at fullback.

There's his attitude and general character - would he really fit with the newly created "culture" - the star of the team is the team….etc....
Some fans are already thinking that this is BS and not important, but I actually think that the best chance the WTs have of doing anything at the pointy end of the season is that they keep building that culture and work ethic to play for each other and put in each and every week. Maybe Holmes might upset that balance?

Then again, he is certainly quick and we need "quick" badly. If Ivan and Hodgo can't help him to be a better No. 1 then no-one can.

You can see that I'm quite divided on the issue!!

I think he's a fairly down to earth guy.

I remember going to a Tigers v newtown game ISP game last year and he was the only Sharks player there to support his team mates in the lower grades. Just sat there by himself with a hoodie on and clapped them on. Wasn't looking for attention, just a bloke supporting some of his mates without being prompted to do so.

I like that in players, and i'm sure Ivan does too.

He wants a crack at what he thinks his best position is, and fair enough that's his right. If he was told he'd get opportunities there and he hasn't had many at the Sharks recently, and wants to look elsewhere then that's his prerogative.

Our squad is solid but lacking natural athletes power and speed. I don’t like Holmes for the money his on but his speed would be invaluable. If we could front load him 1m this year and get home at 500k for the next 3 years it would be a very smart move. If he doesn’t work out it’s not a huge cap hit over the next 3 years.

Lets be honest if Ivan Cleary and Brett Hodgson think Holmes is fullback material then they are both great judges

**looks like he is spot on again**

Val Holmes unhappy at Cronulla and in talks with the Tigers for a move this season. I would say it will come out in the media soon

Yeah right.

This is the same bloke that wrote Tedesco Moses and woods to the dogs months before it come out

We later found out had the dogs not rejected Moses this would have happened, what a fine mess their cap would be now, maybe we shouldn't be too quick to dismiss this bloke.
