Didn't he disappoint massively when playing fullback in previous rounds? Vaguely remember saying it was a fail.

1\. Valentine
2\. Thompson
3\. Marsters
4\. MWZ
5\. Fonua

That doesn't look so bad, does it?

I'd really like to see Lolohea given a run at centre in ISP when he is fit - he is obviously out of favour at FB and won't push Reynolds or Benji out 5/8 and 14 spot. The guy is a real enigma - he does some really good work but just doesn;t fit in anywhere - he is very much like Owen Craigie.

??‍♂️
Might be a regrettable signing.
Sucks if so cos I like the kid.

Hasn't been given enough of a chance imho

What, he was told the fullback spot was his to lose, he should have been way more motivated, and fitter, he knew last year what was required

Been pushing Val Holmes down everyone’s necks on this forum for a few weeks on the rumours thread, it just makes sense!

Cronulla are on the decline it’s obvious:

They’ve got there forwards retiring this year

An injury prone Dugan and an overrated Moylan

And without Maloney, a pretty poor halves combination

You take Holmes out, they’ve don’t have much

Holmes is a winger don’t get me wrong, but this is a question I want the forum to answer….

What does a winger do that would be restricted from you being a fullback, instead of finishing on the sideline?

You have Holmes in the thick of things at fullback, more on the ball and lurking off offloads through the middle (imagine him following Masters, Mahe and Nofo let alone the forwards), imagine Holmes with a broken line he’s one of the best in the NRL with some serious pace!

He’s a work in progress at fullback but he’s still young, develop him into the best in the NRL as he has the potential to do so.

He’s a superior talent that would fit the tigers style of attack quite well, was even regarded as a possible NFL prospect!

No one else in the market that’s available has the talent and skill set of Holmes and that’s a fact

Go get him Ivan

I kinda agree. Holmes is not great as far as the modern, sweeping fullback plays in attack, but that's not we've been doing anyways.

The other big factor is guiding the team in defence, which Thommo looks good at.

Wouldnt stand a chance.

DIdnt see he’d make it, but went through a trial gives you some sort of perspective on his skill set

Setting the defensive structures
Setting up outside men
Hole running, depifferent lines to wingers
Last man tackles front on
Positioning for kicks
Kicking game

There are plenty of things that make a good fullback great - some of which he has.

Conversely look at fullbacks who play on the wing in sso or internationals, they look just as out of place.

Thompson? Not sure he has a kicking game yet.

Pretty sure Val’s going to play fullback this weekend with Dugan injured again.
The way fullbacks are targeted with kicks,I’d prefer Thompson over most in the comp. if Val comes onboard for the WTs I’d like him on the wing with a licence to roam in attack

I would pay him fullback money regardless of whether he plays wing or fullback.

850-900k to play on the wing - you are nuts. lol

Glad you are not in charge of the Tigers purse strings, we'd be back where we started.

Where we started? You mean the point in time where we had around 4 unproven "stars" on that same amount of money (or near that) EACH.

This bloke is a proven star. A Queensland and Australian representative, where he seems to score tries for fun. Whether he plays wing or fullback, he can provide cover for all backline positions. Considering a large amount of our team is on peanuts, it wouldn't hurt to have one player on around 650-750k (my perception of fullback money, especially for one as unestablished as he is).

Depends on how much he really wants and how much Ivan is willing to part with…Im not a fan of Holmes but will be happy if Ivan wants him....

on a side note we have had plenty of big money players end up being duds(Blair) comes to mind...
If he does come here he should play where Ivan wants him to play, not where Holmes demands to play...

Well so far the bloke has been right

He did say it would be out in the media soon. Seems like a trustworthy source in my opinion

Its pretty cool that a fresh body like Ivan Cleary is in charge of this club not all these burnt once too often negative Nancies posting here.

Did anyone see when Flanno spoke of the way he structures his salary cap on fox he has 4 to 5 top players and he said the percent that it takes up of the cap can not remember the amout of it but no way Holmes is on over 650K after hearing Flanno talk Fifita is on 650K down there Flanno is very shrewd when spending the cap

Communicator , ask anyone about Slater , this is his biggest strength according to everyone he plays with and what they miss when he doesn't play

I think they miss Slater's grubby kicks to the balls ..head stomping and of late Academy Award diving…more when he's out..

It's a big part of why Lolohea has struggled to cement the spot and why Thompson has made it his..he talks a lot in back play in defence...
