Its a real shame it has come to this and I am surprised the Dragqueens haven't had more to say about it. This isn't about Wests or Balmain, this is about one of the most endearing moments in our games history (Provan & Summons). For Channel Nine to disrespect this as they have is not surprising given the boss is an avid Roosters fans and it also highlights what a joke of an administration the NRL is

Would this happen in the AFL? NO

Channel nine are doing what they have paid to do through TV rights but what they fail to recognise is the impact of their decisions on the game and its supporters and it appears that doesn't seem to concern them. I hope they are treated accordingly when the new TV rights are determined.

Having read all of the above posts I fail to see how blame can be sheeted home to Humphreys, the Wests Tigers, Balmain Ryde Eastwood or the NRL.

The culprit is Channel Nine.

Nobody made WT move the game to SFS.

There is not much point in the club going ahead with their planned celebrations if no one is there to see it.
Theres a difference for the majority in getting to the moore pk precinct on a Fri nite compared to a Sun arvo.

So what is the flamin' difference if the match was played at the SCG WITHOUT the stupid dancers than at the SFS WITHOUT the stupid dancers??

Oh yeah that's right…..the $F$ trust gives WT more money.....

Provan & Summons could both do a lap of honour at HALF TIME and do a pose of the infamous moment in history for the fans...

There is no difference for television networks to broadcast this match at the SCG of the SFS...

where we play does not matter start winning games and sort our off field problems first ie balance the books geez.

Sorry Ink, i'm not trying to have a go at you or your opinion, it's just the way your reply came across carried undertones that were baffling.

In this post: http://www.weststigersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8372&start=18&time=1308743940#p193103 I posted what was emailed to us by the club minutes earlier to set the record straight re. the Dragons game, saying that the decision was ultimately the clubs but Ch9 forced their hand (as reported in the SMH article).

Then the very next post your response challenged what I posted. The phrase "he didnt say that" suggests that what I posted was false and that the REAL reasons were being hidden, covered up or what ever.

I'm sorry if my interpretation of your response was that it was provocative, but that's how I viewed it. You said that it wasn't, so ok. A misunderstanding then.

As for the conspiracy theory stuff, well, magpie mania's following posts certainly make out as though Concord and Humphreys are working to undermine Wests:

That's 4 posts from the first page of this thread that all imply that Concord is actively working to undermine Western Suburbs, ie. conspiracy theory. It is just four among countless other posts by him and others in many other threads here and on the Western Suburbs forum that all carry the same tone.
The comment about lies, spin and delusions was not meant for Ink, it's was meant for Magpie Mania who, as demonstrated in the posts above, appears to have conjured some crazy idea that there is an anti-Wests agenda at Concord.

If this is not true then magpie mania should be able to clarify his posts right here in this thread.

Yes kul I am most certainly saying that humphreys is leading wests on a wild goose chase, undermine well thats your words. You threw mud at me and ink earlier for no reason and now your having another attempted dig at me now with the way you have done this post.Dont know what the whole 4 quotes from me is about I thought the max was 3 for us.The problem here is you seem to have a very disturbing inability to acknowledge certain truths about this jv when it doesnt suit your beloved ryde eastwood and you start throwing mud at me and ink and any other people who just happened to be ex wests.Yet again the anti wests agenda isnt at concord it lies solely within humphreys office and with you as you seem to think you have a god given right to throw mud at me and ink and others just because you dont agree with what we say.In an earlier post you posted a statement that came from wests tigers that they regret wests having to move to friday night and sfs. While im of the mindset it aint your statement that counts its your actions. While you look at what people say I look at what people do for proof. The whole way you have made this post talking to ink about me makes me think you are a 9 year old who is late for girl guides.I guess im saying it seems very cowardly coming from what im assuming is a man.Take this word of advice try to become more like smeg cause while you are not stupid you at times are most certainly still lacking the voice of reason that smeg provides.Smeg as a moderator would never throw mud at others the way you have at me on numerous occasions.Grow up.

Tigers aren't to blame. As far as I know channel 9 choose the first 2 games for Friday night and then fox chooses the next 1 or 2\. If 9 didn't pick it first for Friday night, most certainly fox would have picked it for Saturday or their 2pm Sunday game.

To be honest, I'm glad it's at the SFS. I think, apart from the heritage of the ground, the SCG is terrible to watch footy!!! SFS will also have a better atmosphere IMO!!

Yee ha, i hate the SCG….

I Couldn't give a toss that they played games there in the past, it was only so beacause there weren't better grounds.

It's bloody awful to watch footy there, can't believe people want to watch footy there. IT'S A CRICKET GROUND.

Its pretty obvious who the child is here…

On topic, I feel its a shame we wont be playing a game at the SCG this year. While not the best ground to watch RL, it sure does have alot of history and I know my boy loves going to a game there every year. He has a thousand questions about its history and is still waiting for his chance to walk out on the field after the game.

Hopefully we will still get to see the 2 Gladiators walk out in commemoration of the great battles between Wests & St George. This alone will be a highlight for me...

Depends if Channel Nine want it Watto. With their track record, we are likely to get a 10 second grab of it before comments from one of the mental giants, Johns or Fittler

Nine's call forces Tigers to switch historic clash
Greg Prichard
June 23, 2011

"It's another lesson we can learn from the way the scheduling is managed within the context of the broadcast deal" … Stephen Humphreys.

WESTS TIGERS chief executive Stephen Humphreys says the NRL should consider including measures in its next broadcast deal that will eliminate the type of scheduling conflict that has forced the club to abandon plans to play a historic game at the SCG.

The league yesterday released the match schedule for round 22, with the game between the Tigers and St George Illawarra scheduled for Friday night as the Channel Nine match of the round. The Tigers had been planning to play the game on the Sunday at the SCG, and were hoping to get that timeslot when the schedule was released, but Nine wanted the game for Friday night and had the final say on the matter.

The Tigers subsequently changed the venue from the SCG to the Sydney Football Stadium, next door. Humphreys said since many people had to rush from work to get ready to make it to games on Friday nights, there was no point in staging the extended pre-match entertainment the club had planned for the Sunday. That would be reduced.

One half of the joint-venture club, Western Suburbs, played St George in the 1961 grand final at the SCG, hence the plans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of that match. Humphreys said he understood and accepted Nine's ratings-based decision, but felt the game could do things better in that area in the future. The TV deal runs out at the end of next year.

''It's another lesson we can learn from the way the scheduling is managed within the context of the broadcast deal,'' Humphreys said last night. ''I can understand Nine's point of view, they have the right to make that decision because they have bought those rights. It was a compelling case for Nine to schedule the game for a Friday night.

''The NRL was supportive of our idea for the Sunday game, but at the end of the day, Nine makes those decisions and they are entitled to make them under the terms of the deal. There is certainly a plus for Wests Tigers in that there will be a big audience on the Friday night and that is good for our sponsors, but at the same time it's disappointing that something we planned to commemorate, the history and tradition of the game, can't go ahead.''

The NRL's director of football operations, Nathan McGuirk, said that while he could understand how the Tigers felt, Nine had simply exercised its right as it does on a routine basis under the terms of the deal.

''We only have a certain amount of say in how the games are scheduled,'' McGuirk said. ''We pushed as hard as we could for the Tigers, but Channel Nine made a clear decision that the Tigers-Dragons game was their number one game for the round and should be played on the Friday night. Steve knows how it works and he has been good about it.''

Humphreys said Friday night's game was less about pre-match entertainment and more about the encounter itself. He said that while the entertainment would be ''down-scaled'', many star players from the 1960s would still be involved and the Tigers would play in Wests' heritage jerseys.

im very dissapointed to hear this, i always love the scg games im a member there so i was looking forward to it, i think its a joke that tv rights can dictate changes like that especially when there was historical significance to the clash, Its a shame to lose that

If you have evidence of such an agenda, then please respond appropriately instead of retorting with insults. If the answer is no and it is purely speculation, then drop it and stick to the topic. There has been enough division created on this forum over the last few weeks when it comes to certain players as well as the club and I am sick of it.

These divisive posts achieve nothing and result in slanging matches with rules being breached. And when rules are breached, posts get deleted, threads get closed and members may have their posting rights reviewed if they cannot stick to the rules.

I fail to see how Wests Tigers are accountable for this. Channel Nine has refused to extend a bit of professional courtesy to the Tigers and the NRL to promote a famous period in Rugby League history. How this conveys into Humpheys deliberately sabotaging a celebration of Western Suburbs history I do not know…

I'm hoping that the IC will negotiate better terms in the next broadcast deal to stop the likes of Nine holding the game to ransom to celebrate parts of the games history, particularly a moment of history that is that well respected and regarded that it is permanently celebrated in the form of the premiership trophy.

It is common Knowledge that 9 Picks the first games of the round…
It is also common knowledge that It happens late....
NO ONE agrees with it... Especially those of us who travel from Interstate to most games.
It's unfair.... But to even remotely suggest that the WT powers that be simply "Don't Care" Because it is only Wests is proposterous....
Those "Once Again" Hard Done by Wests Stalwarts may want to remember back to when the Heritage Match was changed from the Tigers / Rabbits game earlier in the year to the Wests / St George game to mark the anniversary....
I didn't see a "No Body Loves Us" Thread back then.....
