The Brooks bashers as you put it have actually been validated today. The problem everyone has had with Brooks is he isn't a halfback. He doesn't lead, he doesn't organise, he doesn't handle pressure and he's not a thinker.
When he won that Daly M award, Benji and Robbie did all those things for him. For the 3.5 seasons after that it's been repeatedly stressed how it is now Luke's team and he has the keys. As such he's performed dreadfully ever since.
Today he was allowed to just run and play what was in front of him with Jackson doing all of the talking and thinking. It's not a surprise to see Luke then play much better.
