The Dogs don't recruit duds and he will be a big loss. His signing underlines how far our club as fallen and the next recruitment manager better be an absolute superstar.

3 finals appearances in 16 seasons. Yes, an almighty drop.

McDonnell has been there for every one of those seasons, a superstar recruitment manager would be quite a step up from what weve had

As I understand it, he was only responsible for junior recruitment and our under 20s teams have always been quite strong. No surprise that you pass the monkey to him for the performances of the NRL team while being in a dead heat with other JT apologists to rush to his defence.

17 seasons….

I always thought his job was junior development and identification. We have been better than average in those department over the last 5 years, he will be good for the Dogs.

That is true, our junior team (u/20) have always been competitive, and a regular finals player, the senior coaches are responsible for turning that promise in to nrl talent.

This would not of been hasler decision. He is as good as gone. Wonder who is making all the decisions at the dogs if hasler not making calls anymore.

The guy's expertise was identifying top level junior talent and getting them into our system. Can't really deny that we've always had a massive number of quality young players in our system, both locally (Moses, Brooks, Woods, Tedesco, Nofoaluma, Sue) and from other districts (Fifita, Liddle, Cherrington). Despite some opinions on here, I think he will be a significant loss to our development system.

There were reports Hasler wasn't impressed with the Dogs junior pathways and talent identification, so they've definitely got a quality person for that now.

Newsflash…Moses, Brooks, Woods, Tedesco, Nofoaluma, Sue are all local juniors.
His no loss, how he survived for so long will forever be one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the world.

Ronald certainly was a survivor, coaches, ceo and board members all came and went but Ronald just kept hanging in there. It either means he was real good at his job or was very well connected.

Anyway always good to get some new blood around the joint

Does this mean that when Shannon decides to come back to the NRL that the Dogs will now have the pleasure of signing him????

Wow if he was a dud like I have read from alot of experts on here it's weird Bulldogs signing him they are a winning culture obviously talented recruiter now he won't have the money restrictions he had at tigers
Mitchell moses would look good as there 6

He's not a senior recruitment officer, as stated he looks after the juniors. I hardly doubt Moses would go to Canterbury just because McDonnell now works there.

Recently he's worked as our junior development scout, but he had also previously been our senior recruitment advisor/scout or whatever you want to call it. That's where a lot of the anger came from, he was making dud recruiting decisions. And he got his son a contract when he didn't deserve one.

While we've done well in juniors we've often recruited the wrong types of players. Kids you excel in juniors but don't have the size or attitude to make it in first grade. Our juniors have always been competitive, but they were always small teams. Small packs, small backs etc. Which went against the grain of most other clubs.

While we have had a large number of juniors come through to play NRL (as we don't recruit, we grow - this is hardly surprising) few have gone on to dominate. We always have promising juniors who don't kick on. How much of this was down to recruiting juniors with the wrong traits, or are coaching system, or facilities, we'll never know.

With the club hiring additional staff across all areas these days I doubt we're going to be losing any ground in junior recruitment. Might even get Cleal, wouldn't complain.
