I don’t know if English is a second language for some? Maybe the full meaning gets lost in translation?

“He claimed the NRL had been working with the Warriors for years around the conflict of interest that exists in its sponsorship deal.

“It’s unfortunate that the Warriors and Vodafone have not been able to come up with a mutually beneficial solution, despite the NRL working closely on potential options to try and retain Vodafone as a partner for the Warriors.””

Telstra would have advised Vodafone of its contractual obligations soon after the change in 2015.
They have no grounds to argue “poor me” we had no idea Telstra were serious about not wanting to sponsor a competitor who gets in through the back door with a lousy $1m.

Come on man ! Some clubs struggle to get 300k for their front of jersey , and you’re into a club who has secured 1m for the last 20 years as lousy . The only reason they’re into aVodafone now is they’re the most direct competition for 5g. Prior to this , they weren’t even considered close.
Bad form considering the current climate.

? compared to the $100m Telstra deal, yes in my opinion it is a lousy measly sum. I’m pretty sure Vodafone is a Telstra customer and that would be another reason why they’ve been so patient during the process.

In which network are you saying Vodafone are a Telstra customer ?
NBN - nope
mobile/ GSM/4G/3G/5G - nope
ADSL/2+ - everyone is . The network is being phased out though .

Telstra half own Foxtel , which have a huge vested interest in the NRL as it equatEs to a large chunk of their viewership , direct and indirect . So if you’re saying it’s one or the other , that’s not true . Not to mention digital rights .
The warriors are struggling, players are leaving , they were sold recently , and they aren’t winning as much as everyone know they should. And to rid them of one of the longest term sponsors , which is a lucrative one compared to a lot of other teams , for what , ruthlessly crushing your opposition , when the team they sponsor dont even get as much airplay as others , especially considering all the 2020 variables , is On the nose IMO.

I would expect nothing else from Telstra.

Treated me and most of their customers like crap for years, until Optus came along and then started ringing to try and get you to switch back.

Wouldn't go back if they paid me, and enjoy telling them so.

I’m certainly not a fan of Telstra. They are absolutely useless. I still regret the $11b we taxpayers gave them, so they could become more friendly with Foxtel. Stay with your opinion. Don’t do a Shaun Johnson, and I’ll stay with mine ?

I don’t understand the Shaun Johnson reference , sorry. Are you saying I’ll back flip for some reason?
I’m not trying to be confrontational, and I’m happy to agree to disagree , I do however have to point out you basically laughed and mocked at how everyone had no idea , and putting value in the Vodafone deal was absurd .
Then when I point out a few things you were incorrect about , you just say agree to disagree.
Seems a bit arrogant to me .
But all good whatevz.

i feel telstra and NRL are getting maligned for no reason. There was always a clause since 2015 and the Warriors had an exempt until the end of 2020 ONLY and apparently Telstra had always informed NRL and Warriors about this.

I'd say Warriors are the ones who've taken this public to get social media behind them and get out of a situation that they already knew existed.

And given that they've gone out of their way to ensure the game goes ahead this year and given Telstra their exposure, maybe a concession on the NRL and Telstra's part wasn't an unrealistic expectation.

not sure what you mean by giving teltra their exposure

telstra is doing them a favour, they knew this long before covid and had a long time to find another sponsor and being the only NRL team in NZ, it wouldn't be that hard to get sponsors.

I just don't like how people are making telstra/NRL the bad guys when the screw-up was from the Warriors.

Agree tig_prmz, let’s hope the warriors make good use of the next 2 years opportunity provided by Telstra and NRL.
A very sad indictment on humanity that for some of us poor outcomes are always caused by those who appear to have more power or authority. If only they realised their destiny is in their own hands.

They’ve had that sponsor for 20 years ? Hardly a screw up considering That the Telstra premiership was going before that.
That’s why it’s pettiness. It only punishes the warriors, and rids them of a 1m sponsor . Why now ? Could it be that Vodafone are a direct competitor for 5G ?

Not sure what's hard to understand. If the NRL does not go ahead, does Telstra get benefit of exposure from the game?

Any other season I might have agreed with you, but the Warriors are a club who had to make a bigger sacrifice than any other. I think they could be afforded a bit of goodwill to get things right. It's an unusual season, so unusual concessions should be, and were, made. It's a good outcome for all parties. Telstra buys some goodwill, Warriors buy some time to generate another sponsor.

that's what i mean, it's a gesture of goodwill. if NRL doesn't go ahead, telstra gets its money back anyway. As i Said in the first post, telstra did this as a gesture of goodwill, they shouldn't be crucified like they did for NOT making that gesture.
