May have to remain in Australia next season.
I can see a few players that will not be cool with that.
Thoughts

Is that the reason for the talk of Sheck and Harris wanting out?

Most of their players have their families over here now so it is probably getting a little easier.

Sheck’s family is well and truely entrenched in NZ. Not sure about Harris, what talk of him wanting out?

Yeah Sheck is the only one who's family isn't over here now, the rest have partners with Australian passports. Payten was saying on the weekend that Sheck is really struggling with it.

There is talk about him going to the Blues

Rugby league: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck considering leaving New Zealand Warriors - reports
12 Aug, 2020 7:30pm 2 minutes to read
Phil Gould says he will spend 'every waking hour' dedicated to the Warriors.
NZ Herald
Warriors captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck could make a shock exit from the embattled NRL club, according to reports.

The Daily Telegraph are reporting that Tuivasa-Sheck – and fellow standout player Tohu Harris – are considering their futures at the club, with Tuivasa-Sheck even considering a code switch.

According to the Telegraph, the Blues have reached out to Tuivasa-Sheck, while several NRL clubs have inquired about the availability of he and Harris.

Their major concern is said to be the uncertainty around where the team will be based in 2021 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and would only leave if the club is unable to return to Auckland.

If the Warriors are again forced to base themselves in Australia, it could even leave to players attempting to question the validity of their contracts, as players are unwilling to spend another season away from their families, the Telegraph reports.

Tuivasa-Sheck has two years remaining on his $1 million-a-year deal, while Harris has one year left on a $700,000 deal.

Earlier this month, Warriors interim coach Todd Payten paid tribute to Tuivasa-Sheck, saying his skipper was doing it tough living in Australia without his family.

"He's probably doing it the toughest out of all of us to be fair. He's the only Kiwi over here without his family and he's got two babies under three so I know he's not content.

"He's a little bit muddled with his feelings, he's always on the phone, and it's tough for him. He's got to lead a club, he's got to lead a footy team and some days I can just see the burden he carries on his shoulders.

"I made the decision to bring my family over and I told him it's been a weight off my shoulders and I think you should do the same," Payten said.

Warriors CEO Cameron George told the Telegraph that he was unaware of any players wanting out. When contacted by the Herald, a Blues spokeperson said he had no knowledge of any dealings surrounding Tuivasa-Sheck.

I understand most of their partners and families are over here now but are they going to be ok with staying here indefinitely?

The problem is there's no finish line in sight, and some players won't be ok with that, they'll want to know a date they can return home.
If they're unable to be given one I can see a lot of players making the call to find opportunities elsewhere back in NZ at least for a year or until this is over.

This could disrupt the game big time.

This is all getting a bit precious don't you think!? And would the league really be worse off without the Warriors?

Speaking from personal experience, my old man worked overseas for 24 years because of an opportunity he couldn't get here(won't say which country but it's a 9 hr flight from SYD)...

Mum never complained and they spoke every day. Visited once or twice a year because us kids were young and had school.

He finally retired and came back last year(unbelievable timing) and it's as if nothing ever changed between the two.

Point is that everyone is a pea heart these days and as soon as a little hardship occurs the wheels fall off the wagon.

If they don't like it then get a job in NZ.

Understand where you're coming from especially from your experience and perspective, but everyone is different and your parents are definitely the minority, very few would be able to do what they did.

I've worked away myself, spent 6 weeks away at a time, I hated it, my wife hated it, my kids hated it and were weird around me when I'd come home and I'll never do it again for any amount of money.

The most valuable thing on this planet isn't what most people think it is, the most valuable thing on this planet is 'freedom' and more specifically 'freedom from association'.
I no longer have to work away, I now spend my time on this planet with who I choose, when you have to work away for a living someone else decides who you spend your time with and how much time you get to spend with them, and as far as I'm concerned no amount of money is worth that.

Life's short, spending your time with the ones that you want to is the most valuable thing we have, some people choose to trade that for $$$$$, I'm willing to bet that those people when lying on their death bed wished they hadn't.

Do the NRL need a team based in NZ (particularly with covid and how long its going to be around) This could be the perfect opportunity for the NRL to make one of its many hard decisions and relocate a second team in Brisbane permanently

I don't want to de-rail this thread, but how on Earth did you parents spend 24 years in a long-term relationship, with 1-2 per year visits, then go straight into living with each other 24/7. Surely with the end of that in-grained separation and person freedom, there'd be a murder within a few weeks of living back together every day as old folks?

On the Warriors, it's a tough one. They will obviously want to be prepared to bring the whole shebang over to Australia in 2021 and ask for NRL support to do so.

It might all be fine by March 2021 but for risk management you are going to want to have a plan.

They can identify a long-term base of operations and see if they can't bring the immediate families over too. As far as I am aware, so long as they pass the screening check (issues with the law etc.) Kiwis citizens can visit Australia indefinitely.

It's tough on the Warriors because players who want out based on not living in Australia, their only other option will be rugby. It remains to be seen whether NZ Rugby can offer any decent contracts and whether said players are even ideal rugby converts. Certainly they can't match RTS's deal.

Because of course as soon as the NRL goes back to being open in NZ you'd reckon those players would flock back.

It's pretty extraordinary isn't it.
I've worked away, I know what married men get up to (not saying they all do)
But 24 yrs, if his old man didn't have one on the go I'm a monkeys uncle.
No way I could do it.

It just gets my panties in a bunch whenever I see these lads shed a tear over the consequences of their own decision making.

Everyone did their part. I went to school over there late on and came back for uni. Then worked over there for a while before coming back.

As the years went on and us kids grew up and became less dependent mum spent much more time over there and the old man came back a lot more.

I wouldn't have it any other way to be honest. Got lots of travelling done early on and saw most of the world. It showed me how garbage most places are compared to what we have here in OZ
