Watchful Tigers keen to snare Blair

Fifita Blair.

Laughable.

I probably should have expanded upon that,

In the long term Fifita will be better. He is an absolute gun. But obviously Adam Blair has it all over Fifita today.

It would be great to have him but not at $500k that is laughable. His management is still living in the land of inflated salaries. $350k MAX I reckon.

We have a lot of players in our top 30 who make less than $100k a year and several who make less than $60k a year.

I have no doubt Wests will not renew contracts of the fringe guys.

If Blair comes on board and can emulate the feats of his cousins Cameron and Chris Blair (The Killer B's) at Wests in the late 80's, I have no doubt we will be a massive showing in the semis .

That's better - I spilt coffee all over my keyboard for nothing!

I definitely agree that $500k is a joke.

The money does seem excessive, but then the number an agent floats to the media might not be exactly how things turn out. I think Blair is a great player and would welcome him to the club. Like others have said he is the 'type' we need.

From nrlstats.com
Adam Blair: Vs Manly 55mins 16runs for (124m) 14 tackles 1 Error
Vs Titans 62mins 9 runs for (60m) 25 Tackles 1 Penalty conc

Not sure those stats are really worth 500G, he has the experience and has played in plenty of big games and will help our pack immensely but his stats aren't appealing at all really?

It doesn't sound like the forwards had much hard work to do in that Titans game. Think Blair is a proven performer, no need to take a 2 game sample to judge him. A good signing, but 500K sounds too much. Be suprised if that is accurate.

Hopefully we can keep Fafita, drop Moors|Flanagan+Daniela and backload with Paytens retirement coming as others have stated.

i highly doubt anyone in the nrl will pay 500k for blair

would love to have him, but at around maybe the 300k mark, even then im sure we would have to offload a few players

Although we don't really need Blair at the moment you never know when injuries can happen and change the scenario
Never hurts to have a current international in the side - although the price being bandied around is over the odds.
I know this won't make a lot of you happy but I agree with Jono10 about Robert Lui.
Weigh up the ( really) poor defence and silly mistakes against the line breaks and he's probably costs more points than he contributes to.
That's not to say he hasn't got talent and might improve in these areas but at the moment everybody is looking at him through rose colured glasses.

Thanks mate and broigus is an argument, look i have no doubt that they will develop in years to come but however i would like to see curtis sironen in first grade what do u reckon about him? Is he good?

That comment right there highlights your lack of knowledge on this topic. Curtis Sironen turns 18 this year and is behind a few players in getting a gig in first grade. Is he good you ask? Clearly you've never watched him play. Yes he is good, but he's a 5/8 at the moment and will most likely develop into a backrower, which means he'll have to learn to play in the forwards over the next few years.

As for the other garbage you posted suggesting the Tigers offload Woods and Lui… :crazy Seriously, if you think you can do a better job than the Tigers talent scouts in spotting the next generation of gun players, then good luck to you. Both players will be representative quality over the next few years with Lui already selected in the emerging Maroons squad with Woods already having played in the Australian Schoolboys team 2 years ago with Junior Roqica and he would have made his debut before Fifita last year had he not torn his hamstring.

Jono10 - no idea mate.

Love to have Blair but not at the expense of Fafita or Woods or BMM. Happy to lose Moops (Seinfeld fans will understand).

Blair would be a good pickup. I like our approach at targeting the English and NZ players, gives us a great run during origin time.

However, the figure quoted is massive overs. But as mentioned in the article it's what his management is seeking and what manager worth his salt wouldn't quote an over inflated price? I hope we are around the 350 mark because he ain't worth more than Lawrence!

i think woods was also named in the emerging nsw squad

nice surprise but obviously there is no deal yet.looks like we want a big fish so that will keep the excitement up.

I really don't want broigus but robert lui is actually crap and aaron woods can't hold onto the ball. I still don't understand why he is in the starting side 3 weeks in a row?

Jono, love the use of yiddish phrases in these forums. Also love the fact that you expect people to know what you're talking about!! Hilarious!!!

I agree with those on this forum that say that Lui and Woods have big futures. I remember watching Lui in the U20's and he carved 'em up and was a big part of the reason we made it to the U20's Grand Final. Woods also looks promising. BUT let's all be honest here, Blair is **fantastic** and we would be foolish not to free up space for him. IMO he is basically better than all of our forwards (possibly Heighno and Ellis excluded…possibly...). Would I give up some players for one awesome gun forward? YES !!!
Would I like to keep players based on emotional attachment? Probably!...which makes this such a conundrum (and because he is asking RIDICULOUS wages). Woods, Schirnak, Moors, Flanagan, - all good and I LOVE 'EM!!..... but come on people! Wake up and smell it!!

If Souths weren't so attached to Sandow they might actually go out and buy a normal halfback and possibly be good! Same with Man United and Ryan Giggs (kidding).

Jono, I see what you're saying, as IMO (and disagree all you want people) but Lui cost us the Dogs game with bad, slow decision making and poor options. He is WAY too predictable. I would like to see Moltzen at HB and Mullaney at FB (but this may not happen all year). Tiger Watto; leading tackle busts after Round 2 doesn't make Lui into a cult hero yet. Everyone should stop getting emotionally attached to players and look at the reality.

I dont really think we need him, much prefer a winger that could kick goals, i guess though sheens must see something in him, but at that price you would have to think twice about it. Maybe they know things we dont about players coming off contract.

I would like to see us sign blair, but probably$350,000 max, asmuch as i like flanagan, he moors, & maybe daniela would have to go & back end the contract when mckinnon & payten go @ the end of 2012.

Mate, you can just leave….
Haha.
No way I'd be willing to drop Lui to gain a few $$ to throw towards Adam Blair's ridiculous asking fee.
My friend messaged me last week saying Parra are after him, must be checking out the market for a better deal.

As already said, he won't get 500k in the NRL.
There is a few players I'd consider dropping to free up cap space to make a play for him.
( McKinnon, Utai, Fulton, Flanagan, Moors, Payten-sorry guys, he's nearly finished anyways)

However I would not drop Fifita, Dwyer, Daniela, Woods, Shirnack boys, Benny MM and there is NO WAY I would even consider dropping Lui.
Most of these lads wouldn't be on big $$ anyways.

Hey guys,

This might be a dumb question. If we do sign Blair. Is it for next season and onwards?

Welcome BigSiro, Good to get some new blood on the best forum on the planet.

On What grounds to you rate Blair so Highly - His stats don't come close to Highno, Elis or Fults.

I disagree fervently that Lui cost us the Dogs game, The whole Team played below standard footy.

I wouldnt pay anywhere near 300k for Blair… He can go to Parra.

Am I reading right? We want to sign a NZ international forward, probably the best forward currently off-contract in the NRL, and people are complaining? Are you serious?

Blair is EASILY worth 300K. Perhaps even more. Forget the 500K figure that was bandied about in the press, that is rubbish.

If we can fit him in we should go for it without question - Blair brings one thing that our forwards are desperately lacking (with the exception of Ellis) - mongrel, and aggression.

i was thinking exactly the same

i remember since 06 people didnt want backs signed.. they wanted FORWARDS… and mungerl forwards at that.. someone who is TOP LEVEL..

Now they dont... go figure

but by them going for Blair i assume that they are not going as hard for GRAHAM from the UK
