Watchful Tigers keen to snare Blair

I would think Blair will replace Payten - also I can see Fifita leaving - he will be offered big money and also a starting spot elsewhere which I don't think we can compete with especially with Gibbs, Galloway and Woods already in the front row and Junior and Neil Begovich coming through the 20s - it would be a shame to loose him but that is what the salary cap is about you can't keep everybody and Blair is a better buy and would fit into the backrow. I also think we will replace our 2nd stringers with our star Juniors saving a bit of cash

Who has been Galloway's starting front row partner for the past 3 weeks? Fifita won't leave unless the Tigers decide they don't want him, which isn't the case. As long as he continues to develop and mature as a player, the club will look to keep him. At the same age Fifita is a more destructive player than Roqica and Begovich but they arguably have a higher workrate.

Neil has a very high workrate… After watching him last week, I think he played 70 minutes and never stoped trying... Personally, I prefer Blair as a backrower and feel he would be ahead of Fulton & Dwyer if he came to the club.

The hardest question is how do we keep them all or which ones do we let go???

By all reports fifita has been slogging his guts out in offseason to improve both fitness and prove his change in attitude. If it came to it, utai, moors, shirnack to move on. Brown, McKinnon, daniela to stay, and for a goal kicking back, can't Lawrence kick? Failing that who would be available on the open market? Would it be worth signing some nuffie to pot a few extra goals and miss out on Blair, and if so Graham as well? I don't think so.
Also, if Blair is looking at signing, wouldn't that signal sheens staying as he wouldn't go somewhere that the coaching is up in the air?
Just my opinion of course

I agree that more aggression in the forwards would not go astray hence Blair would serve that purpose. The club will have worked out who stays, who goes and how much can be offered to Blair. The club is in a fortunate position where it is not desperate for Blair IMO given the quality of the foward talent coming through but he would be a definite bonus.

It's too good to be true.

After Blair signs with Melbourne, I can see the same headline again from the Tigers.

" We thought we had him "

i just hope we keep BMM as well

he will be one player they will want to keep.. Sheens has bigger raps on this guy then others that are in front of him

and IMHO itll be BMM before Fafita

Somehow I think they have already decided who stays and who goes well in advanced.

id love him to come to the club but at the expense of who? the shirnacks and moors?

Good question. The Shirnacks have busted a gut at this club for years. Surely they would not be asked to leave.

Surely.

im happy with our team, including our forwards. i would not pay $350k plus for blair, at the cost of some of our young guys. all we need to complete this team is a solid winger who is a reliable goal kicker. eg. someone like luke burt or that goodwin bloke from the dogs

I dont Get it.

Blair isn't in the same lass as your Farahs, Lawrence, Elis or even Heigno. How can the $$$ we are discussing for Blair be justified.

I like Loyal players, Money players will look to leave again later down the track for the highest offer.

Get Graham for next year.

More than likely. The Tigers have enough forward talent coming up through the grades that they would believe can fill the gap left by Moors and the other fringe first graders at the moment.

Excellent post Spartan. I hadn't even considered that, if he was to be a mercenary and join us on top dollar, chances are we'd only have a couple of years to mount a serious premiership charge and then to retain him, we'd have to dismantle the roster to accommodate him or he would leave to chase the bucks elsewhere anyway.

Perhaps Humphreys and co are looking at Blair with the new TV deal in mind? I hope thats not the case, as there is no way to gauge the implications of what the new TV deal would mean for clubs in terms of salary cap expansion.

Not a real mercenary has only player for Storm hasn't he Bob Lindner was a real mercenary I agree that i would want to keep our local juniors but as far as Moors Daniela Utai etc go if we can trade them with the losses of TNT and Cayless and pick him up I'm fine with that

If you offer players for other teams big money like Souths did for Asotasi then most times it backfires.
They seem to take the big money and their form drops.

I like Adam Blair and he would add some aggression to our team but I would hate to lose some juniors
like Fifita, Woods, BMM to accomodate him. All will be up for significant upgrades to their contracts next year.

If we got rid of some fringe players I would be fine with that. Also Payten's last year next year so maybe we can back end Blair's contact once Payten leaves or a third party agreement.

I read Canterbury have $100,000.00 to purchase a front rower this year to fill Tandy's spot.

I think our first priority would be a goal kicking winger and wished we went hard for Michael Gordon last year. Great player and even better goal kicker.

If Blair is a mercenary for wanting more cash and a new challenge, what does Graham seem to be? Don't kid yourselves he'd be cheap.
