Watchful Tigers keen to snare Blair

I reckon Blair would be a really good option however I also like keeping players who appear loyal to us or that we have developed. Our squad is really good as are our forwards.

If we get him at a fair price I'd be stoked. If not no big deal.

You cant blame a bloke for changing clubs if the difference in salary is around the $100k mark, which by reports it is going to be, i dont begrudge a bloke for doing that. Lots of players change clubs for cash, but are true professionals and give there all for whoever they are playing. Glen Lazarus is an excellent example, as is brett kimmorly.
Are they mercenaries or professionals, i like to think of them as professionals.

If you offer players for other teams big money like Souths did for Asotasi then most times it backfires.
They seem to take the big money and their form drops.

I like Adam Blair and he would add some aggression to our team but I would hate to lose some juniors
like Fifita, Woods, BMM to accomodate him. All will be up for significant upgrades to their contracts next year.

If we got rid of some fringe players I would be fine with that. Also Payten's last year next year so maybe we can back end Blair's contact once Payten leaves or a third party agreement.

I read Canterbury have $100,000.00 to purchase a front rower this year to fill Tandy's spot.

**I think our first priority would be a goal kicking winger and wished we went hard for Michael Gordon last year. Great player and even better goal kicker.**

Good point…dunno so much about hime being a winger, but we really badly desperately need a decent genral play and goal kicker of NRL standard

Very good player and would be great in our team…....however, like some have already stated, is he worth the cost? I dont think he is when we have such great talent already at the club. Its so much more satisfying winning the comp without going out and buying it. We've bought Ellis and Tuqiri as stars, but besides that we've built up from within or bought reserve graders from other clubs. Even in 2005 we didnt buy it because the players we brought in were'nt established stars. Prince hardly played first grade at the Broncos, Richards was in reserve grade at Parra and i think from memory Hodgson had lost form and was dropped as well. Elford was reserve grade at Penrith, and Whatuira only got a chance at Penrith cos of injury. So 2005 was very satisfying, but if we win it this year or next, it will be even better.

I've had a hard long think about this and there's no doubt that Blair is one of the best front rowers in the world and would be a great asset to our first grade team. What worries me is the fact we have Fifita and BMM coming off contract this year and I'm not sure when Woods' contract is up too. As well as that we have a host of young talented kids in the NYC team that need to be retain, e.g. Miller, Groat, Begovich and so on. The thing I find hard to swallow is do we risk losing some of these talented kids because Blair has taken up that much room in the cap and is he worth losing some of these kids for? I seriously hate the structure of the salary cap in it's current form. Gives no reward to clubs who nurture their own juniors.

Chris - well said. Teams should be rewarded for developing their juniors in their salary cap. Also players who have played for the same club for 10 years should have a discount in the salary cap as a reward for loyality.

At the end of the day Chris, we wont be capable of keeping all these that you have mentioned even with no Salary Cap. Galloway & Gibbs have 2 more years, Fifita and Woods are starting to improve and once you throw in BMM, there just isnt any room for Roqica and Begovich… Groat is young and will be 2-3 years anyway, so he could work his way through with natural attrition. All these boys want to play NRL, so 2-3 will have to move to another club to realise that dream, or we move on the older boys in Galloway and Gibbs.

Its a pretty big risk saying no to a proven performer when they come along, based on HOPE that all our juniors will be as good or better... The decision needs to be made now and if we can fit Blair in, the choice is an easy one because neither Fifita, Woods, BMM, Roqica, Begovich or Groat are certainties to succeed at NRL Level...

Good Luck to Humpty and Sheens in making this decision!!!

Isnt Blair more of a second-rower? Wouldnt effect Gibbs,Galloway, Fifia, Woods, BMM etc position wise. But will with salary cap.

8\. Gibbs
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway
11\. Blair
12\. Ellis
13\. Heigho

14\. Fifita
15\. Fulton
16\. Dwyer
17\. Payten

do we really need him this year?i think the young props now are doing a great job

Pay more attention…
It's for next year onwards.

Guys remember that we now get cap discounts now for eight year players. That means Benji, Robbie, Heighno, and Gibbs are currently eligible, and by my calculations Galloway and Lawrence get cap relief from 2013 onwards.

I'm sure we wouldn't lose anyone significant even if we did sign Blair.

if we signed him our lineup will be

8\. gibbs
9\. farah
10\. galloway
11\. fulton
12\. ellis
13\. rhino

14\. payten
15\. fifita
16\. woods
17\. mckinnon/daniela/brown

25\. blair

not worth it

Anyone who thinks we should not try and sign a quality representative prop like Blair if the opportunity came up has a few screws loose, IMO.

Hybrid I understand what your saying But what is more likely to win us a premiership . A second rower who really isn't that much better than our current option (Fulton ) or a 80% goal kicking winger or fullback .Blair is not a better player than either Ellis or Rhino and Fultons work rate is far better and Fulton's utility value options far outweigh anything Blair has So then it comes to bench do you want a $300000 plus player playing maybe 30 minutes of bench each week IMO no way

If we get Blair he will get more than 30 mins off the bench.

Blair is quality, no doubt about it!

The question is what would we have to give up to get him?? If it was fringe players like Moors and Flannagan with a backended deal to take Payten's portion of the cap, I'd be ok with that. If it meant dishing off half a dozen youngster we want, than that is a different story.

If the $500k price tag is true, then, no way we want him, however if it is more reasonable, im for it.

He is not available, but the player I would most like to see with us (outside of course your Slater, Cronk, Thurston etc) is Lachlan Coote, slightly out of form at the momment, but his support play and energy around Benji and Robbie would finish off alot of tries we are just missing out on, plus he kicks goals and most importantly he is one of my favourites

We get rolled by opposition forwards because we dont have the size & grunt upfront.. We need some bad men in our packs.

Sure the work effort of Rhino & Fulton is up there with the best, but workload efficiency alone doesn't cut it.
We need to size up to the opposition for once.

Only tiger fans would consider any of these (Rhino, Gibbs, Payten or Fulton) on par with Blair..

Tigers would be crazy not to sign him..

Have to agree with Hybrid and Cola, after watching the determination of the roosters pack on Sunday against our pack, it would be very handy to have a player like Blair around to strengthen our pack further, provide depth when injuries hit and to set an example to our younger forwards coming through.
