Watchful Tigers keen to snare Blair

Dogs gotto be in play for Blair Surely

They tried to get him last year IIRC during the Storm salary cap dramas.. I imagine the Dogs will try to sign Junior Sau from the Knights to replace Idris, he'd be an inexpensive option. Dogs'll probably have a bit of cash to throw around.. they offered Lawrence huge $$$.. seems like a gun centre is at the top of their list, maybe they'll make a play for Hodges, though I doubt he'll return to Sydney.

Nathan Tinkler's net has Adam Blair in sights- http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/sport/nathan-tinklers-net-has-adam-blair-in-sights/story-e6frg7mf-1226038738202

THE Tinkler Sports Group is still coming to grips with Newcastle's salary cap position but the mining magnate's spending power could result in the club extending its hit-list to include Melbourne and New Zealand backrower Adam Blair.

The Knights are expected to finalise the signings of Cronulla prop Kade Snowden and St George Illawarra fullback Darius Boyd in the near future, but Newcastle officials say they are one strike backrower off a premiership-winning team.

That's where Blair could enter the equation. The Kiwi international is off contract with the Storm at the end of the year and has been targeted by Wests Tigers and Parramatta.

He would demand a hefty salary but Tinkler's spending power is limitless. In a sign of the club's improved financial status under the Tinkler regime, TSG chief executive Troy Palmer yesterday indicated the club would look to spend the entire $300,000 of the marquee player allowance.

That money can come directly from Tinkler's pocket. By using some of it to pay players this season, the Knights would have additional funds for next year - they currently use only $150,000 of the allowance.

The final say will rest with incoming coach Wayne Bennett, who worked with Blair when Bennett was on the New Zealand coaching staff at the World Cup. "We understand we need to start looking at re-signing players or signing new players," Palmer said. "(Recruitment manager) Keith Onslow, (coach) Rick Stone will have input in that. Also, there is potential for Wayne Bennett to have some input."

Asked about the club's salary cap position, Palmer said: "I am just working on that now. We'll just continue to work with them in assembling a new roster for next year. There are a lot of contracts that have been signed or are in the process of being re-negotiated."

In terms of the marquee player allowance, Palmer confirmed the club would use the entire salary cap, including allowances. "The cap is a complicated system," he said. "If we haven't used up all the cap, and that includes third parties, we will definitely look to use up all the cap.

"There's ways you can play with those numbers. That may not benefit the club this year, but it might next year by freeing up funds."

Bennett spoke on Brisbane radio yesterday, reacting to claims in The Australian from former South Sydney players he opted for Newcastle because of the size of Tinkler's offer.

It is understood Bennett could earn as much as $10 million over the next four years once bonuses are factored in.

"I can tell you it's pure speculation because no one knows," Bennett said.

As for claims Tinkler had provided Bennett with use of his private jet, the seven-time premiership-winning coach said: "It wasn't part of the deal. I am sure if I can hitch a ride somewhere I will grab one."

I dont understand this post.. Can someone translate?

I'm getting this feeling that it is going to fall through with Blair . If Bennett wants him he will get him ,remember that Bennet would of had an involvement with him during the time he was assistant coach with Kiwis . Hope I am wrong though

All they got is Bennett,

Blair could be playing off Robbie and Benji, Lui

Alongside Gal, Hieghno, Ellis

Young Gus Woods fifita Dywer BMM

Lote Lawrence and of course Beau.

x2 - was thinking that - Blair would fit right in at home with the tigers style of play.

I think Blair will join the tigers as every player whos off contract the news print says newcastle are interested in so hopefully he comes to the tigers.

My big concern isn't any of those issues . More the one that Benji and Blair don't get on . If someone can match our offer the other offer becomes more enticing. Knights may not have a strong squad now but 2 years time could be an issue and they may offer Blair 4 years Who knows . All I'm saying it is nowhere near being in the bag yet . But I hope it is near enough to being in bag

How do you know that Benji and Blair don't get along? It's been years since their speculated disagreement (if there ever was one.) I'm sure that Stephen Humphreys and Tim Sheens are smart enough to do their homework before investing the type of dollars speculated by the media.

Yeah meant to put if they don't get on My boo boo

I hope Blair signs, hes a machine..

We have Sheens, Benji, Farrah, Lote, Ellis, Lawrence + many promising & talented youngsters which will boost our chances of attracting any NRL player that is off contract.

Im confident with or without Blair, our club will be a real powerhouse this decade if they can sign 1 or 2 elite over the next 24months, and try retain most of our youngsters to fill in the spots for those players whois contracts wont be renewed.

I was ears dropping on sheens at a local game last year
He was talking about Heighno, and that there probably not going to resign him after his contract, something along those lines.
Hence, If we sign Blair, Heighno will be on his bike,
