Wayne Bennett

Its official, wayne bennett will not be coaching the st george illawarra dragons next year he told CEO Peter Doust today that he wont be renewing his contract and St George Illawarra have announced that his understudy Steven Price (former lower grader who played for the Balmain Tigers and St George) whos career was cut short through injury, at least thats good news for us now, at least its another option for Souths

Are you insane if i was the ceo i would happily have wayne bennett coach the tigers just imagine what he could do our side, he could win us a premiership. If he can do it for st george than i'm sure he could do the same for us.

One issue is money. Can the Tigers afford him? He commands top dollar and the Tigers have made no secret of their desire to keep Sheens on board from beyond this year.

The second issue is geography, Bennett's family wants to go back to Queensland.

He did mention in his press conference that if he has to stay away from his family for 3 more years then so be it. read into that comment what you will.

Would've bet my house on that happening if I had one.

So any chance of Tim Sheens being poached by the Knights?

It seems that is one scenario no one has discussed.

Good question Helmesy Can't see it happening but they are a bit like us . Lot of young talent coming thru in halves and some good experienced forwards . I would of thought with what is hopefully just round the corner with the Tigers (if the injuries ever leave us alone) that he would have more of a chance of winning title in next few years with Tigers than Knights . We also have a big hitter in our corner also with Harry's return and Harry is keen for Sheensy to stay also .But never say never …

bennett would be a good edition to the club, However I think he will end up a Knight, as the Great Ted Dibiase used to say everyone has a price, and Tinkler will pay whatever that price is…..others cant

Bennett will go back to Broncos Family plays a huge part in Wayne's life . If you are unsure about that watch his Australian Story episode again . If family did not mean much to him ,why did he rush half way across the world to be at his Mother in Laws bedside recently . And the Broncos did not get rid of Henjak for the sake of it .Might not put house on it but I might put the car boat and caravan on it though.

No…. not every body can be bought some people do have priorities .The only reason for Bennett not going back to the Broncos would be to take another club to a premiership pretty hard to equal that one could be motivation?.

whilst TK may have sources, i have no respect for the guys opinion on rugby league. watching him on the sunday roast he's a goose.

Too right. If they wanted random opinions from a nobody they might as well have hired me when Matty Johns got the axe.

Would much rather see Sheen's work in building this team, in a place that no-one else would touch, rewarded with the loyalty that he deserves.

anthony griffin just re-signed with the broncos for another 2 years so looks like bennets heading too knights or rabbits?

Quite a few years ago Bennett said if he was to quit the bronks he would like to coach the tigers and that he had a soft spot for them. Maybe their is some truth in the rumor. Really I think the smart move is to stick with Sheens , give him two more years, get Blair and a quality outside back/ full back that can kick goals and we are in for some happy days

he loves benji aswell but i doubt he will come here on adam blair if we get him good but not if we lose woods fifita e.t.c. and i reckon jake mullaney is the solution too the goalkickin fullback problem?

Jake is like Benji hot and cold with his goal kicking and his defense would have to improve 100% on what he showed in the u20's. Although to be fair I have not seen him play this year, a bit of bulk and some hard work in defense and he could be the go

Newcastle look to be favorites to sign Bennett. Their offer will reportedly make Bennett the highest paid coach in Australia and it's at least $500k per season more than Crowe has offered him to go to Souths.

From wat I heard on Channel 9 news tonight, Tinkler has offered him a performance-based remuneration, which could net him MUCH more than Crowe has supposedly offered.
