its the sheer numbers game, all these kids will/have played in FG but whos gonna miss out because we arent gonna keep all 4 of them

benji has the 6 sewn up until 2015 then we have 3 halfbacks of (possible) FG standard in lui lazarus and moltz, now if sheens is persistant with lui at 7 then that means moltz will be FB and mullayney will be on the outer with lazarus.

and lazarus is way to good a player to keep signing minimum contracts and he will have clubs breathing down on him soon same with mullayney if he has another year like last, to me he seems alot like josh dugan.

now its a good problem to have as long as the right choice is made when we eventually lose 1-2 of these kids because in today game its a guarentee to happen.

so when push comes to shove and the decision has to be made who do you think should be a priority?

ive gotta go with lazarus and moltz.

I'm not saying this is the team that should be played today, but perhaps in the future

1\. Mullaney - assuming he keeps up his form, this guy can't be held back. Fortunately for us he's still very young and can stay in the NYC for the time being
3\. Moltzen - fortunatly for timmy he IS a utility and can play anywhere. He's getting pretty tall and if he IS forced from halfback then he could easily do a Berrigan/Giteau and play as a ball-playing centre along with Lawrence. Ayshford seems destined to be a lock and for good reason.
6\. Marshall - as you said above, he's our 6
7\. Lazarus - there has been a lot riding on this guy for a long time. Assuming he ends up being half the player everyone says he is then this looks to be his best position.

could you imagine this:
1\. Mullaney
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Moltzen
4\. Lawrence
5\. Tuqiri
6\. Marshall
7\. Lazarus

Lazarus and Mullaney imo. Moltzen is a damn good five-eighth and his value to this team isn't as great as his market value. Imagine what a team like Penrith, NZ or North QLD would give for Tim Moltzen? When the time comes I can't see him being worth that much to us. Lui can be turned into a damn fine lock ala Feleti Mateo but we don't really require that and with our backrow stocks at an all time high and Lazarus and Marshall in the halves Lui will probably go elsewhere when his true market value is assessed in the future. Lazarus simply is our halfback solution. I have a bad feeling Mullaney isn't going to make the grade and I don't think Arana Taumata will be at WT in 2011 though I feel we will nurture him back into first grade and make him a valuable product for another club. I think he'll go back to Canterbury.

The jury is still out on Mullaney at this in my opinion. He scored a heap of points last year through excellent support play and chasing short kicks, but NYC offers weak defence and favors attacking players. Mullaney looked out of his depth against the Sharks, and I don't whether he was crook against the Roosters, but he did not look interested for most of the match.

Until we see Taumata and Lazarus in FG, it's also hard to given an accurate appraisal of them too. I know Lazarus has big wraps and is a step above State Cup, but we haven't seen him in FG yet. I'd like to see both of them in FG before I'd be hanging either player out to dry. As for Moltzen, a lot of it is going to depend on where his long term future lies. If it's fullback then no way…Halfback, different story. I like Lui, he's still only 20 and has plenty of improvement left in him IMO. Hopefully we'll get to see him hit some form when he returns from his ankle injury. The Tigers did re-sign him for a further 2 years.

did the same with lazo and mullayney too didnt we willow?

I wouldnt mind having Lui at 13\. He makes more per hitup than our current 13 and is clearly more creative. His defence would need work but thats the case regardless of where he plays.

lui played five-eighth in 20's. so wouldn't he play there and moltz at half and mullaney at fullback

In 2016…...

What's happened to Benji...Blakeeeeeeeeee......

I think it's pretty obvious that Mullaney and Lazarus may be the one's to move on if it comes to that...

so you think lui over lazo? IMO lui only jumped ahead of lazo because of hes 2 injury plagued seasons, i hope we keep lazo

Geo I would tend to agree with you. But I also think Sheens has pretty big plans for Jake at this stage. It all depends upon his development and whether his NYC form from 2009 can be transformed into the NRL. Many young players are able to dominate in the lower grades withour ever replicating such form in the top grade. Wasnt Tulsen Tollett a schoolboy superstar?

Well consdering the just gave him a 2 year extention and Lazo is off contract…then Yes...

Is that my personal pref.....No...

Its a shame that in todays game, you develop juniors and can only keep half of them…

Unless the Tigers sign Moltzen to a long term deal, he is gone. He's value to other clubs is higher than what he is worth at the Tigers when you have a B Marshall & R Farah. The word on the street is Tim will be CCB number 1 signing, and even if this is not true, it will only push up his value further. (As a note, CCB have Moltz, Jay Florimo & Bodie Clarke on thier list) Once all is settled, I believe Tim will go on to play for Australia as a Centre.

Mullaney wont end up at Fullback. He is a true 7 and is such a great talent, the 20's had no choice but to find a place in the team for him. (Sounds Familiar? No... Look above!)

I think the Halfback spot should be groomed for Lazarus or Lui. Both display good footballing ability, with Robert probably showing more form to see him as a future 6\. Blake is a responsible kid and looks like he would bleed Black and White for his beloved Magpies.

As to who we should keep, why dont we ring Ricky Stuart and ask him who he would prefer??!!!

IMO the one of the four that must be kept is Moltzen.. from the other three there is plenty of talent but I would probably go with Mullany.

I would keep all 4\. Mullaney just isn't ready yet (still very young) but I think he will be a fine firstgrade fullback in the future. Lui could become a good lock forward if he improves his defence. Lazarus will be a good first grade halfback and Moltzen could be a very good centre. You know it makes sense.

It's a big assumption to say Mullaney will end up at 7\. Right now the Tigers NYC team is VERY weak in the halves and they're not using Mullaney there. Seriously, given the wraps on Mullaney, if he was the best option at 7, they would play him there, but they are not.

The 20's are looking through coke bottle glasses. They dont have another option at Fullback, so I'm pressuming that on the back of Jake's performances last year, they feel its best to leave him at the back. On the point of there halves, Jay Florimo is a future star of the game, so stating they are weak is a poor 'assumption'. And to make things even more laughable relating to the 20's, they have a guy in the second row who could potentially be better the Tanella Tuiaki on the wing. Considering Jackson is out injured, I know where I would play Junior.

As a note, Jake couldnt get a run in the 20's last year at 7 or 6 because of Nicholls & Lui and this was the reason to find a place for him at Fullback as he is way too talented…

Jay Florimo can tackle. Other than that he has bugger all going for him at the moment. He's no half. His kicking game is average and he has no running game at all. If you've watched the trials this year and last weekend's game, you would see this.

As for Roqica, I am a fan, he's a big boy who has talent, but he's also lazy and since he has bulked up, he has lost pace, too much to be a winger. He goes ok over 30 metres but cannot hold his speed and falls away badly. This was clearly evident in the grand final for Balmain last year when Ben Barba left him for dead and Junior just trailed away in the distance.
