We missed our shot....

Hey WT's fans,
Last night I watched the 3 games from the 2010 Finals….
And honestly, Without being a sad sack... (And at full risk of getting torched...)
I feel we really have missed our Chance!!
The team we have now, Is nothing on that team (Although it's mostly the same)
Some examples: In the Roosters final, FP Nuaasala was bashed from Pillar to post (Anyone see what he did to us last match)?
Ayshford was absolutely everywhere and really digging in (I have barely spotted him this year)
Heighno was actually hitting the line with forward momentum (Something I can barely remember him doing, To the point he is getting belted by Wingers!!)
And in reallity we had a full set of halves then!!
Now we have a halfback and an out of form centre (Which ever one they choose that week)
We had intensity, We had mongrel (Unforunately for 2010, We also had multiple stupid descions from our seniors....)
We are out of form all over the park, And i can't see it changing enough to be a real threat in the next month.
In all reality we could be out of the 8 this weekend and stay there permenantly with our tough run home...
My fingers are crossed and I AM hopeful, But I think we really need to bite the bullett and start to make some tuff decisions on who stays and who goes...
I am confident we are at the end of our purple patch and we need a rebuild!! AND SOON!!

I'm happy to keep the faith for the remainder of the year mate… I contemplated those same feelings after last years Final Series thinking we missed our shot.

I'm confident if we can get our mental energy focused in the right areas, we can give this a shake!

MATE!!
I really hope so…
And I am keeping the faith (But also trying to be a little realistic)
But I was suprised at how much better we were then!!
Beau Ryan has been head and shoulders our best player all year, He's obviously stepped up a couple notches
but bar him, Benj, Robbie, Fults, Utai and Woods I feel the rest of the starting side has been Grossly under performing!!
And in Reality it's getting to close to the end of the year for players to start finding form, They need behind them.
Should we make the finals so we can take the added pressure of sudden death Footy.
(Another area we have been lacking)
Fingers crossed big fella....

The next month of football will see where we really lay.

2010 & 2011 we still had the same problems with poor form going without consequence for some players.

Our forward pack is better balanced and stronger at full strngth.

The lack of pace is always a concern though

To be honest, i do partly agree here. Everything seemed to align just in time last season and we looked the most likely side to win the title. We had a host of players in career best form and that was before we get to Farah and Marshall. For some reason it just wasn't meant to be, the cards didn't fall our way.

Now it could still happen again this season but the key will be getting our best players on the field and keeping them there. Ellis and Fulton will help massively. Sironen will add some much needed know how in the halves. Importantly though it should breed some confidence in those players playing a little below their best. Think Ayshford, Tuqiri, Heighnington.

So i wouldn't rule us out yet but there's no doubt the team has a lot of improvement to make before we can be a serious threat.

I have said a few times now this team as a group hit the wall very hard last year in their final outing against the Warriors. They knew they had the team and momentum to go all the way but fell in a heap with the title in sight. All the preseason hype did not help our cause but this team seems to have serious mental scars. The ability to actually compete for anywhere near 80 minutes is gone. Iam not blaming Sheens or any individual, I think it is a collective thing and their has to be change to put a new lease of life in the place. Now that could be in the shape of revamping our roster or getting a new coach.

Anyway as other have said the next eight weeks will shape our future one way or another. My guess they are going to struggle and change will be forced on the club at the end of the season

What about Chris Lawrence he's age suggest he should be at his peak , far from it. He might go down as the player with loads of potential but never fullfilled it . Prove me wrong Chris

gibbs smashing nuusala… best game i've ever seen gibbs play.

agree 100%
Gibbs in that finals series was amazing. I reckon it was when he really came of age.

TBF he is carrying injuries, hoppeful this break gives him a lease of life to finish the year, if not, a full off season to recover then regain fitness will almost certainly see him back to his best

I think you get a short window under the salary cap to have a chance to win (unless you are the Broncos and have your whole squad on 3rd party deals, which effectively means they play players legally well above the cap), our time is almost at a close, this year and next will be the end of the window.

We should have won in 2010 (still think the refs were increadiblly biased against us in the Dragons game). I think we blew it last year when it mattered.

Our side is not consisitent enough but talent wise they can win.

This year we have too many players playing no were near their best level and if this continues we cant win, these players include: Benji, Lote, Chris L, Chris H, Blake A, Tim M, Adam B. That is too many not playing good enough. The loss of Gibbs has been seen in our ruck defence and this is componded even more when Liam and Gareth don't play.

Unless they turn it around shoryly we will not win this year.

Next year we may have another chance, we will still have a strong core of players, we have some very good young players coming through and I think we have brought okay so far. We are still laking more depth at the prop position.

Having watched a lot of the 20's and some SG Ball and Schoolboys games this year we have a very good crop coming through and our time rebuilding between title winning windows I think will be a very short one. The Tigers have really got the junior recurtiment going well and hopefully that will continue in the future.

While it's great to have the Juniors coming through the system it will be very hard to retain even 50% of them and then you have to try and bring in a quality import to balance things out.
It is possible that this may be the Tigers last shot at glory for the next couple of years with Ellis leaving at the end of the year and the rumoured cleanout so basically it's up to the players how their season finishes, well I hope.

I have to agree with you Batboy,We are no where the side we were last year or 2010,our attack is very ordinary. Would be interesting to compare points scored to previous years.

I still think that the 2009 campaign, had they made the semis they would have given it a big shake, Supercoach MK 11, effectively ended the campaign at the SCG when he sent Sauce back out there with a bung leg, but near the end of the season TNT was on fire only to succumb to his career ending injury.
That game at the SFS late 2009 put the Eels on to a run to the Grand Final that should have been us, OMG I think I'm being paranoid here or does everyone else feel the same?.

Still can't believe Jeremy Smith didn't get penalized for sliding into Lote's back with his knees. At that stage the score was 12-all with about 10 left. He wasn't and next tackle Benji put it out on the full from memory. Those 2 finals in 10 are still a sensitive subject with me

I don't think our pack is better balanced and stronger. I think Blair has made us weaker defensively and with no real upside in attack. Gibbs is a huge loss defensively.

If we had Gibbs instead of Blair in the backrow we wouldn't have been rolled as many times as we have this season.

The pace out wide is a worry but I figure that can be turned around - Benji, Lawrence, Moltzen and even Ryan have a bit of pace. Lote, Ayshford and Utai if playing well can score a try.

Get our best team back and we can win this. The supposed good teams aren't that far away from us. The negativity stems from high expectations.

Come finals time our big guns will step up and be firing.
