We need a new coach and we need to lock it in now

Why the hell is Woods dancing round the subject.. Beating around the bush? Saying they need to know who will be coach without stating he wants JT to stay… Seems like it's all a joke to him and treats the fans with disrespect..

Say something

Or say nothing

Don't beat round the bush

Mate I tell you why he is beating around the bush.

Because he wouldn't mind a change of coach.

He can't say that in public.

He can endorse JT for next year - which he did not exactly do.

Some might see that as disappointing.

Why is Cleary deemed to be a more respected coach than a Taylor? Their coaching feats are just about on a par. I think people are always overrating Cleary purely because of his calm demeanour -his coaching record is really not all that great, imo.

Really, or par?

Cleary made a GF with the Warriors and a PF with the Panthers.

Statistically they are 2 of the lower ranked clubs in the game.

So it is a stretch to say their coaching records are on par.

I think Woods is terrific, Moses can be anything, Brooks can be a good half and Tedesco is the best FB in the world. However I don't subscribe to the view that good players (in fact any of our players) can or should dictate who will be the coach. **In my opinion if they don't want to play under the coach the club wants then they can go and sign somewhere else.**

I don't agree with players not selecting the coach, however if next years coach isn't signed I'm pretty sure management would sound them out (through their manager) on their thoughts on the current coach.
If you are saying you would choose Jason Taylor over the entire 4 players we are talking about and give them the flick well…

Yeah it's a very negative response. Wouldn't see that kind of response very often from any of the top teams. I agree he might as well have said nothing.

If the club want Taylor and the four don't - then yes. The club should not be run by its players.

Laugh all you like cktiger, that is my opinion, same as you have yours.

Yep. And Taylor got Parra to the semis after taking over mid-season and got Souths to their first semis in yonks. Not saying he's better, but I'm not confident there's much difference.

I agree with you on this. The Woods interview to me pretty much says "we want to know who the new coach will be". He could have dodged the question and stayed quiet but he didn't. Pascoe was talking about extending JT in December last year, then it goes all cold. So once again player power deciding who the coach will be, how ironic lol.

Back on topic i choose Cleary. He wants to get back into coaching and has made that very clear. Why wouldnt he want to coach the tigers? We will have one of the most exciting spines in the nrl (tedesco, moses, liddle) we pretty much have all our dead wood off contract, we will have farahs $750k to spend so he can splash out on a new roster. With all our off field drama, and the big 5 off contract i reckon this year will be a write off. So i think they need to act quick, make their intentions known and get him working to putting our roster together for next year. As for those comparing Clearys record to JT what a joke. He took the uncoachable warriors to a grand final, that says it all to me.

Why do people want Todd Peyton?
He trained them as kids but it's a different game now in NRL. They just want him so it can be like good old days, mates club.
F@#k that.

I don't care if JT is resigned or not but I'd much prefer him over Payten.

Sign a new coach now and we might as well take this season out the back and shoot it. Might be a bit premature after 2 rounds…

If you sign a new coach now and then the tigers make the 8,I think JT will have been hard done by.I feel that ship has sailed and if the tigers were going to sack JT it would have happened already.I think resign JT now for a further 2 years with a clause saying that they must make the top 8 each year or his contract may not be renewed.

It shows a stance for the Wests Tigers that they are committed to the coach and the supposed progression being made at the club.

The big 4 or 5 as some may say have the clarity that is need to make a decision to sign or not.I believe tedesco and Nofoaluma would not leave because of JT as its seems they both like JT at the helm.Woods you would think will stay or the likelihood is higher than not,Moses and brooks are the uncertainties as both will entertain fairly decent deals with other clubs, and its hard to say how much the coach factor would come into play for those guys.

If worse comes to worst and the club doesnt make the 8 this year,we will likely have a strong squad of our current players retained, plus some new additions for the 2018 season that would put the team in a good place of competing for top 8 or preferably top 4.At this time JT has well and truly had his chance to get this team where we all want it to be,and if in the sad case it is not then this is the time for change.

If the big four are going to wait until end of season to decide if they stay with WT then by that time the WT ship heading into 2018 will have sunk. There will be precious little time for the club to negotiate with players from other clubs to get them to transfer to WT in 2018\. I don't like to say this but the big 4 are holding our club to ransom. As far as I am concerned if they all decided this week that they are leaving the club then great for our club. Wests Tigers could then use the huge amount of money left over as a result of these players leaving to build a new staff roster for 2018 much, much better than their current 2017 roster.

It doesn't seem like they're waiting on these guys before entering the player market for 2018\. We've already been linked to a few 2nd rowers which is good to see. If we can get a quality 2nd rower signed up then on to signing a new centre or winger (preferably both). The longer these 4 hold out the less cap space will be available, but that's likely to be as true of rivals clubs who might sign them as it will be of this club. There's no need for the club to panic.

I would of like to think the tigers had thought ahead and have a back up plan/plan B… if the likes of tedesco,Woods and Moses left, but i dont think its the case.Papenhuyzen was earmarked as having a bright future as an up and coming fullback, why wasnt he signed incase worst scenario teddy signed elsewhere,or backup if tedesco gets injured.

Nobody knows though for sure what he said…saying nothing is clearer than what hes said

These blokes have quite a high opinion of themselves considering theyre all perennial losers

I am a pragmatic person. Taylor did ok last year and he might get them to the 8 this year. However given the circumstances surrounding the re-signing of several key players as well as having an unprecedented clean salary cap next year it is imperative that we put a respected figurehead in place as soon as possible.

Woods has stated that he won't sign until he knows who is coaching next year. He gave no inclination that he wants JT to stay or to go however if you sign an Ivan Cleary or Des Hasler now that becomes irrelevant. He isn't going to become less likely to play here under a more respected coach. He won't walk in honour of Taylor.

It has been said that Woods holds the keys to whether the rest will sign and if that is true then we need to put a head coach in place immediately. It would be easy to just extend Taylor now, but for the long term health of the club I cannot see that being a wise move.

Good coaches carry clout when it comes to recruitment. Players take unders to play for good coaches. The media treat them differently and so too do the fans. Taylor has always been a bit of a scrappy underdog type coach (to put it nicely) and that too is the perception of the Wests Tigers. If we ever want to move past that tag we need a head coach that is taken seriously by players, media and fans.

With Taylor as head coach, even with a good salary cap, we will sign players like McQueen and pay overs. Who would we attract if we had Cleary or Des? Would we pay overs? I doubt it.

I do not doubt that Taylor is a good, perhaps even great, football mind. He did good things as assistant at the Roosters, but he isn't a leader of the quality of most of the other head coaches in the NRL and right now is the perfect opportunity for the Wests Tigers to finally shed their underdog status. Their weak status. Bring in a respected coach, pay them what they are worth and give them a clean salary cap, a NSW captain on field leader, the best fullback in the world and watch this club solidify straight away.

That all being said, I want Des Hasler personally. I think his approach would do wonders to our club in every level. He commands respect from his players and we need that. I would also be very keen to sign Cooper Cronk to our coaching staff as soon as he is retired. He wants to move to Sydney for his wife and he is the smartest footballer going around.

Who do you think should be coaching WT next year?

Very good post Ink

i reckon JT will be the first coach sacked this year

I think your right …I don't see to many wins on the horizon and we basically have a reserve grade standard back row and very average centres. So as the loses mount, Taylor will come under massive pressure and I give him another six weeks
