We should sign Chris Heighington for 2018

I would be ok with it, Heighno is still holding his spot at the sharks, would rather Luke Lewis

And a no from me as well.

Interesting. No sentiment or loyalty towards him shown from the majority of the fans commenting. Why should there be an expectation of loyalty from players to clubs and fans then? The thought here is that it shows that we as a club DO respect our roots, DO respect our players and past heroes and would sacrifice a small piece of salary cap to demonstrate this.

So, seriously wouldn't give him a minimum NRL contract just for this purpose? What about a second tier contract?

NRL, srs bznz.

I love the bloke and would buy him a beer tomorrow if I saw him.
But your point is silly - the nrl cap doesn't work like the American equivalents, so we'd be on the hook for his salary all season even if he retired 5 mins after the contract was lodged.
There's other ways to recognise him - give him an ambassadorial role or some such if you like, a la Halatau.

If we were talking as a serious player for next season - the answer is still no. Better players out there with far bigger upside that will command similar $$.

Do you think that if the club offered him a contract players like Moses, Tedesco and Woods would feel really bad for being so mean to a club which does so much for their players and ex-players?

When we finish recruiting this year we'll probably be a million under the cap. Much like Newcastle are. I see no issue here.

And which of you said we have enough backrowers? Lmao that's the one position we need to strengthen if anything. We're two injuries next year from playing Rankin in the backrow.

Hang on to the mil under the cap and look at mid year signings next year - there are usually a few good pick ups before June 30.

Still playing well enough to justify a back row spot at the premiers. Wouldn't be the worst signing we could make and you'd be pretty sure he'd put in each and every game. I think it's a good idea.

Never rated this guy - he is a ball hog.

As for an ambassadorial role at the club - you would be joking.

Let's look forward to the NEW Wests Tigers - not the basket case.

Why? He's well respected in RL circles, has enough of a media profile, cleanskin. All he'd be doing is schmoozing sponsors and the odd school visit or whatever.
(and then if/when we get our ship in order, he can tap up opposition players a la Minichiello)

I think really good players of exceptional quality, cleanskins as you say but they should be one NRL club men.

I would suggest former players like Brett Hodgson and John Skandalis would fit the bill and do a good job.

We have had dopes in the past like Steve Roach (good player) but not a good ambassador - let's upgrade the post.

Skandalis is already an ambassador. Hodgo is coaching over in the UK, but he'd be perfect if he ever came back and was at a loose end. Halatau is another on the books this year (not a one club player) as an ambassador.
I'm by no means saying Heigno is a must, it was just a suggestion. It's good to keep these senior players around in some capacity, and he'd fit the bill as a guy who has been there and done that.
Not bothered if we overlook him - just thought the 'you're joking' line was harsh.
