The Commissions report has been released and there is much more detail to follow but as expected they will devote a lot of resources into the fight with AFL & Soccer, the impact on us will surely be a greater Western Sydney based RL Team.

Surely be? I don't get that out of that article. The answer is not contracting the NRL's footprint in the west.

Balmian, Concord and Leichardt are all in Wesern Sydney, as is Parramatta, Penrith, Canterbury, Leichardt, Campbelltown - not sure what the point of this thread is TBH

Lol 1 unsuccessful afl team and 1 soccer team vs how many league teams?? We are well ahead, no need to "compete" yet. Drastic changes like that are unnessesary.

OK,just throwing out there whats being discussed by "the powers to be",who knows where it will all lead in the future but at this stage the status quo will maintained until at least 2014 but more probaly 2017.

You really have no idea what the state of the game will look like in 10 yrs. If you had told Wests and Balmain fans in the early 90's they would amalgamate they would have called you crazy

Gee I was thinking the report would be some monster with detailed stats and carefully worded analysis… It's a whole 7 pages including the future goals.

Yes, it is intimidating stuff. The AFL must be shaking in their boots….

That was my first thought - if the AFL had some plan for the future it would be over 100 pages with strategies, milestones, funding plans etc. This looks like a Year 8 student's project…

Certainly ain't spelling BB.

Lucky Star loves your interpretation of Western Sydney by the way … How about Hornsby, Heathcote, Darling Harbour, Brookvale ...all in western Sydney ??? The shady side of the Sydney Town Hall, the sunny side of Eveleigh Street, the pokie lounge of the Great Southern Hotel ... All in western Sydney ???

No wonder all these codes are fighting for control of western Sydney - it's bigger than bloody Texas (which raises the question, is Texas in western Sydney ?)

Your interpretation would have Penrith, Parramatta, Wests Tigers, Souths, Canterbury, Manly, Cronulla, St George and, what the hell, even the Roosters as western Sydney teams (I've always been enveloped by this strange urge to sup on a 4 pack of Woodstocks whilst drawing hard on my Winnie Blues whenever I turn into lower Minichiello St, Vaucluse ... very western Sydney vibe).

Who doesn't count Balmain and Concord as western sydney, everyone calls it the inner west, and it is clearly west of Sydney.

Funnily enough in about 2000, NSWRU had an unsuccesful couple of rep games between West, South and North. Sydney Uni was considered west….Sydney Uni is not west of too much.

I'm hearing your inner west, outer west pitch Goose … and you do speak much truth.

It's funny though, the geographical centre of Sydney is Merrylands ... So apparently a whole bunch of places are east of the centre but still labelled as west.

Arrgghh what are we talking about, western Sydney is a state of mind not a post code ... I'm living in Woy Woy and you can't get anymore western Sydney than that!

Strategic plans are just broad goals.

only complete morons would put full implementation ideas in this kind of announcement

Exactly, if you want to make your implementation plans public you may as well just e-mail them to Demetriou personally. We have something to measure the growth of the game against now, and a strategic plan for the first time since Super League really, yet people still complain.

Too little too late possibly

They should of been looking at doing far more once GWS was announced and now after the Wanderers have got their foot in the door its time to take it seriously

Proactive rather than reactive would be nice , being the greatest game of all sometimes isn't enough

Have you actually read it? I think it's reasonable to expect more detail than the document provides. Otherwise what's the point? We all know they want crowds and memberships to go up.

As a comparison look at what the AFL puts out annually:
