I still have my Wests Leagues Club membership at Campbelltown…I always assumed that some of the money spent there went into the Wests group and therefore supporting the Wests Ashfield club to own a majority of the Wests Tigers...it's only small, but there is big money to be made from huge amounts of small donations...

Wests Campbelltown gave up their state in Wests Tigers to Wests Ashfield/WSDRLFC in 2011…

Did you mean stake GEO…so Wests Campbelltown aren't part of Wests group, even though they have nothing to do with the WTs...if they are part of the group ,then some of their money goes to Wests Ashfield, yes or no ...not quite following..

Gave up the seat on the Wests Tigers Board (stake) to Wests Ashfield/WSDRLFC ( now - Wests Group) as a trade off for any financial liability to Wests Tigers..they are no longer part of the Wests Group that control the Wests Tigers since 2011..

They still fund WSDRL Juniors and Group 6 in the CRL…

Wests Ashfield and Wests Campbelltown have always been two separate Entities and never related to each other...

Not entirely true mate, Wests Campbelltown was controlled by a Wests Ashfield board up until 1996; after which they relinquished control to a local board. It's such a shame because both WA and WC are trading magnificently these days. Wests Tigers would be a financial juggernaut today if we had the backing of both clubs.

I say good on them, and now they need to go a step further and replace the word "Ashfield" with the word "Tigers".

Call it the Wests Tigers Leagues Club, and make it the home our club has been searching for over the past 18 years.

I'm not a member of any of the 4 club affiliated Leagues Clubs, but as soon as someone decides to open up a Wests Tigers Leagues Club, i'll be the first bloke in the membership queue.

Unfortunately not a cent of your Campbelltown membership fees go into the Wests Tigers coffers.

The other 3 Leagues Clubs have a direct connection though.

Interesting move by West Ashfield to change their Logo and try to become closer to the WestsTigers. I'm sure it must have caused heated debate in their boardroom meetings.
I've only ever been in their twice when a Rugby League game was on. Not many of the patrons seemed that interested in League. They did however seem very interested in these machines that you put money into and push a button.

They haven't changed their logo - they have added a WT logo ( wearing a Wests jersey).

Nothing wrong with keeping their original logo and adding the weststigers logo or having functions there - but why did they need to change the football team's logo?
Good sign of unification there. :unamused:

No idea why - maybe they think there should have been a bit more Wests in the logo seeing they own the club.

I think this is a great move by Wests Ashfield and I am more than happy for any move to create some unity within our 2 great foundation clubs.

Now my next comment isn't meant to be divisive at all I just don't have a great understanding of the Wests Magpies heritage and hoping someone can explain it to me a bit. I certainly don't want to offend anyone so please don't take it that way if you are from the Campbelltown area.

If WC have no financial connection to the club and seemingly so far away from our main heartlands of Ashfield and Leichardt why do we play games down there and support the Campbelltown area? Is there a history there between WC and WA from yesteryear? I know it has always been very difficult to get corporate sponsorship and people to games there so why do we do it?

From an outsiders point of view with the investment that WA is putting in and hopefully one day the Balmain side being able to re-establish themselves as a financial partner (probably unlikely given the current circumstances I know) why doesn't the club move more towards being a true "inner city" club with the opportunity of supporting WA more heavily?

Don't think many fans will go to Ashfield after a game at LO. Nor Five Dock for that matter. Needs to be walking distance from the ground for people to show up in nay numbers. Five Dock is just a bowling club with a Tigers emblem on it anyway. Tiny.

This is a good move by WA. Might try get there for an away game or two this season.Bu tyes they need a sports bar or two which puts the games on and with sound.

If they have a player presso on there after the LO game there would be quite a few diehards rocking up
I understand it makes it a long day for the players and staff, would have to be a day game

I think that is Wests Ashfield plan now. As majority shareholder, they are stumping up the cash while Wests Cambo are slurping the cream before and after Campbelltown home games.
Wests Campbelltown also own the Country Club near Camden, which calls itself "home" to the WS Giants, hosting it's supporters on game days.

Two reasons:

1\. Large Junior nursery.

2\. There is a train of thought that because the Macarthur area considered a growth region, it will provide a large supporter base in the future. Problem is that the Tigers, and the Magpies before them, have struggled to gain acceptance in the area, and have been considered inner-city blow ins by the locals. I hope the perception changes in the future, and with a consistently strong side on the field, it might.

That technically isn't the Wests Tigers logo, as others have noted - doesn't affect me but I can understand if some old Balmain diehards have a weird feeling about the obvious dressing up in magpies colours. Same as I can understand old Maggie supporters annoyed about the little magpie on the sleeve.

The old branding is becoming less and less relevant anyway, so long as it's some combo of black and white and gold. Moses Suli was 1 year old when Wests Tigers was incorporated.

What really surprises me is that it took WA so long to make a stronger connection to the team. I've been there a few times, they had jerseys and such in the foyer and used to have a "Benjiburger" if I recall, but they've been part of the organisation for 17+ years now.

Ashfield's just not convenient for me anymore since my parents moved out of the area. I actually like WC, right on the train line and next to the stadium, perfect combination and it surprises the old version of me that'd I'd be so happy to attend matches in Leumeah. Don't think it's the best club in the world but the sports bar is nice and I can get a chicken parmi at 11pm at night.

Seems odd to me that post match for Leichhardt games is at Wests Ashfield. You pretty much have to go past Five Dock to get there, and I believe the Tigers club there has recently been done up with new caterers and the like. Not sure you'll get too many Leichhardt faithful going back to Ashfield…

Not really odd at all when you consider that Wests Ashfield are the majority owners of the club, they would be looking for a return on their investment. Changing their branding and having club functions at their venue would all be about increasing the return for the money they are putting into the club.

WA don't make money from having WT functions at the club. If anything, it would limit their major revenue facility in the poker machines as the big time players aren't interested in football.

Yea, but the players apparently like a flutter…..in $10 and $20 outlays.

I argued ten or twelve years ago the colours should be shared, grounds shared, one NSW Cup team, one NYC team and all leagues clubs rebranded Wests Tigers Leagues Clubs …. well they say Rome wasn't built in a day but I'm sure glad it's heading in the right direction. Pity they can't rebrand Campbelltown as Wests Tigers .... but hope springs eternal ...

WC was bought outright by WA lead by Rick Wayde in 1986 when Wests were pushed to go there or expelled sadly.
It is a shame that WC isn't involved directly in a good way any more because I felt in the 90s the merger between old and new Wests was going well till super league.
Anyway they are a part of the Wests Tigers and Wests outfit now with plenty of loyal fans.
Plenty of outside interference in the maggies and even WT sadly.
