Balmain is always holding back the magpies
Wests Magpies NSW cup side 2012

The most frustrating part (being a magpie diehard) is that wests campbelltown and now ashfield are voting with balmain on all jv decisions leaving the magpies in limbo land. Considering ashfield and campbelltown came from the wests side of the jv its very dissapointing. I dont want to be devisive or sound backwards but all us diehards want is a fairer representation of the wests (black and white / fibro) brand within WT. Simple things like magpie on sleeve (size and location) marketing (colours and designs - consider the white v) and remembering the magpies heritage (heritage match at campbelltown).. Balmain dont fight to stay alive as the tigers brand is cemented within WT. Not sure what the answer is but it these things that bug us diehards.

If they were aligning with Balmain, the club would be the Balmain Tigers playing out of Leichhardt. That is clearly not the case. The leagues clubs are getting on the horse they believe will go the full distance. Wests Tigers are now a very powerful brand and the two leagues clubs obviously want a piece.

The sad part of this is that it is most likely the Magpies will fold or become aligned to some pub in something like the Jim Beam Cup. With funds being cut by Ashfield and i would imagine no board involvement from Ashfield or Campbelltown its hard to see any future for the Maggies - it appears they are being starved out of existence. I am an old Maggie diehard but personally i think they need to bite the bullet, fully align themselves with one JV team and stitch up a deal that maintains their heritage, logo and colours in some form under the JV flag - they also should negotiate to play half their games out of Campbelltown. I would rather see this happen than for them to just fade away.
I agree with u diedpretty.. Its a sad state of affairs but if the fribro/black & white brand is better represented in wt i can accept that situation re the nsw cup team rather then see them become a exhibition team with no link to wt or campbelltown area/juniors

No one wants to see the Maggies die off. However there seems to be a lot of comments in this post about the tragedy if the Magpies are relegated to a lower tier comp. No-one seems overly outspoken about the fact that the Balmain Tigers, their colours and the famous Tiger head logo are also fading away and will no longer be an inclusion in the State Cup.
We are all in this together and I believe if one of the traditional clubs has to go from the comp then I think both should go and should be replaced by a WT team. I don't agree for the State Cup side to solely play out of Leichhardt, but maybe this is a bit of a payback against the Maggies for not co-operating? Would hate to think that the people involved would disadvantage the supporters out West just to prove a point though. I am not sure but am just putting it out there as a possibility as otherwise I don't see it as being very fair.

Tigersmurf also agree with your comments.. It should be noted that balmain have died financially (compared to magpies) and the arguement for most on this forum is if magpies are afloat (wests ashfield support) and balmain cannot survive then let the magpies be the feeder side for wt (survival of the fittest approach) magpie diehards are upset that wt simply take over balmain nsw cup team and costs and magpies (unhappy with the arrangement) are left to die off with no link to wt or campbelltown

But Magpies are WT aren't they? All are in this together. I want the Magpie Blazened on the sleeve of the WT jersey. Truth be known I would like the old Balmain tiger on the other sleeve too. I would love our strips to mirror the old jersey of both clubs (not just the heritage rounds), but understand the joint venture trying to support a new combined identity.
We can continue to celebrate both foundation clubs without having B grade teams running around in a lower grade competition that only a few attend to watch. I would rather our players taking the step up from State Cup to NRL having come from strong competitive teams rather than the results both independent clubs achieved last year.

I don't think it's in anyones interest to tell the Wests Tigers how thier Buisness should be run. I'm guessing I've been a Wests Tigers fan just as long as anyone else and I can't recall EVER having 8 Internationals in our side AT ANY TIME… Let alone at the same time. Which is exactly how we will line up next year!! I don't think any side of the JV could claim the same at any point in... Well, Thier last 50 years anyway!!

I could understand this arguement from either side of the JV if there were 1500 Screaming fans at the match every week…. BUT THERE ISN'T!!
Would be lucky to be 200!! (And that's exagerating!!)
For all the hoo haa I read about not letting Balmain and the Magpies die.... There doesn't seem to be any action to back it up.
I go to State Cup games of both feeder teams... (Wests more so)
And the turn outs we get compared to all the literature I read about the undying passion, never say die this that and the other really doesn't add up.
Even if Wests Magpies are the feeder team... And win a premiership (In State Cup) How will it even help the Wests Tigers?? Are players going to want to come to WT so they can win a premiership in the feeder club?? Will they get more people out to Campbelltown to watch the Ressies go round??
If anyone is honest.... The answer is NO!!
The Competetion seems to be heading to back toward the old days of having the 3 Grades play on the same day at the same venue.... What sense would it make to have ANY of the teams not called WESTS TIGERS???

Personally I don't care what ground Wests Tigers play out of in State Cup if they are indeed amalgamating all WT contracted players into the one team for next season. It would be preferable for them to alternate between Campbelltown and Leichhardt, but that's not a decision for me to make. I'll support the side no matter what ground they play out of.

I was being generous with the 1500 because i haven't been to a state cup game in years, but have watched them recently on Fox. I agree with much of what you say Batboy, but wish to add that the Magpie on the sleeve was an agreement for the merger to take place and I think it would be improper to remove it now.
However as I said earlier, I also agree that the current Tiger logo does not reflect Balmain, and I would have liked to see the Balmain Tiger somewhere on the jersey. Given that those negotiations were 11 years ago, I am over that now and don't expect anyone to change it anytime soon.

When my mates bag me out and say that 'Wests dont exist any more' or say 'balmain took over you guys' i find it very annoying especially when the original wests group provide the bulk of funding and junior base to WT. Humphries has acknowledged that wt is seen as an extension of balmain. I would have thought that having the magpies as the sole nsw cup feeder team would have helped changed that extension perception. Wests Tigers wouldnt exist without wests magpies so as the tiger lives on in the nrl let the small representation or memory of the wests brand live on before it fades away for good.
