Wests Magpies NSW cup side 2012

I for one wasn't sure what was happening with the Ressie's next year…
I still think our reserves should be called Wests Tigers.
But thanks for shedding some light on what's been a pretty grey area!!
Hopefully, It puts some heresay to rest....

But it's not a bad idea… It really would be awesome to have a "Wests Tigers" Leagues Club!!
I very much doubt it would happen.....

I find it no coincidence the two leagues clubs are very supportive of Wests Tigers in board room voting. Wests Tigers now have such a strong brand, the two leagues clubs know which brand will last the longest and provide the most financial benefit.

Never say never.

As Darryl Kerrigan would have said " tell them they're dreamin' ".

Dreaming "They" May be…. But the old Diehards may have to resign to the fact that neither football club (Western Suburbs or Balmain) Will survive much longer without the help of the Wests Tigers....
As GB stated.... It is not coincidence that Ashfield and C'town as well as Balmain are voting with WT at board level.
I would guess they are getting on the winning side....

Who will return to the magpies from bret and other clubs? Who can we expect as fringe players from wt?

But Magpies are WT aren't they? All are in this together. I want the Magpie Blazened on the sleeve of the WT jersey. Truth be known I would like the old Balmain tiger on the other sleeve too. I would love our strips to mirror the old jersey of both clubs (not just the heritage rounds), but understand the joint venture trying to support a new combined identity.

We can continue to celebrate both foundation clubs without having B grade teams running around in a lower grade competition that only a few attend to watch. I would rather our players taking the step up from State Cup to NRL having come from strong competitive teams rather than the results both independent clubs achieved last year.

Just having an easybeats team that runs around in the jersey each weekend in front of a crowd of 1500 people does not do justice to the long proud history of the club and what it stands for - does it?

Great post!

We need to move ahead TOGETHER, and remember our pasts TOGETHER.

I'm all for a dynamic and succesful WT's but I like the idea of the Balmain and Wests logo's featuring somewhere on the jersey.

AGREE with both comments. I now live in Brisbane, however, besides following the Tigers, I also follow the Brisbane Lions in the AFL. This club is a merger between Fitzroy Football Club (Melbourne) and the Brisbane Bears AFL Club. This merger was (still is) a very successful joint venture because they still acknowledge the origins of both clubs. There are thousands of members who still sign up from Melbourne each year because they still feel a part of the Lions. Interestingly, the jerseys still acknowledge both clubs, on the back I think it is. I attended my first Balmain game back in 1960\. However, I am really coming around to embracing Wests Tigers in its entirety, Reserve Grade (when introduced by IC) and all. So, yes, I now want to see a Wests Magie and an original Balmain Tiger on the Jersey somewhere as mentioned above, never to be forgotten. I must add, the demise of Balmain Football club and essentially the Leagues Club has hastened me to the above conclusion. Also, since it is now Wests Tigers forever, if Orange, Black and White are the colours…...so be it......and lets move on. Above all, there seems to be a finality about Wests and Balmain with both football clubs teetering on the brink of extinction. RIP.

13 NRL teams will be represented in the VB NSW Cup in 2012 as St George-Illawarra and Canberra return through joint-venture partnerships with Illawarra and Mounties.

The 2012 season will be a 26 round competition which features a number of new initiatives set to reaffirm the VB NSW Cup as the premier feeder competition to the NRL.

The Newtown Jets will break new ground in 2012 as they leave their spiritual home at Henson Park and take their round 15 fixture against the Windsor Wolves to Pioneer Oval Parkes.

On what is the biggest weekend on the Parkes calendar, celebrations will include the Parkes Picnic Races on Saturday and culminate in this historic VB NSW Cup match on the Sunday.

The VB NSW Cup season will also see two unique rounds where three double headers will be played for individual trophies in a three-pool system. The pools will be the Foundation Challenge (Newtown, North Sydney, Western Suburbs and Balmain Ryde-Eastwood), the Battle of the West (Canterbury-Bankstown, Wentworthville, Mounties and Windsor) and finally, the Battle of the Coast (Newcastle, Cronulla, Manly and Illawarra).

NSWRL General Manager Geoff Carr says off the back of a stellar year in 2011, the VB NSW Cup looks set to only further enhance its position as the premier open-age competition in Australia.

“Around 500,000 viewers tuned into watch a thrilling Grand Final between Canterbury-Bankstown and Auckland last year at ANZ Stadium,” Mr Carr said.

“The success of 2011 season coupled with the support of our new sponsor in VB places the VB NSW Cup in a strong position to strengthen the competition.

“There is an ever expanding appetite for quality Rugby League at suburban venues and with the return of St George-Illawarra and Canberra, this will now expand the VB NSW Cup’s footprint into two of Rugby League’s heartland’s in the south coast and western Sydney.

“With games already being at quintessential suburban grounds such as Leichhardt Oval, Henson Park and North Sydney Oval, it exciting to see the return of defending premiers, Canterbury-Bankstown, to a refurbished Belmore Sports Ground.”

The season is set to start on Saturday, March 3, with the 2012 Grand Final again set down for NRL Grand Final day at ANZ Stadium on Sunday, September 30.

2012 VB NSW Cup structure:
NSW Cup club - NRL Affiliate
Auckland Vulcans - New Zealand Warriors
Balmain-Ryde-Eastwood Tigers - Wests Tigers
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs - Own team
Cronulla Sharks - Cronulla Sharks & Melbourne Storm
Illawarra Steelers - St George-Illawarra Dragons
Manly Sea Eagles - Own team
Mounties - Canberra Raiders
Newcastle Knights - Own team
Newtown Jets - Sydney Roosters
North Sydney Bears - South Sydney Rabbitohs
Wentworthville Magpies - Parramatta Eels
Western Suburbs Magpies - Own team
Windsor Wolves - Penrith Panthers

Manly, Canterbury & Newcastle feed their 'own team' but according to the page Wests Magpies do also ??

I dont think so…

The NSW Cup structure of the future (if it survives) will be entirely different to the one shown in the above post.

The Independent Commission will almost assuredly introduce an NRL Reserve Grade as one of it's priorities and the sooner the better. Then, and only then, will the Balmain/Western Suburbs endless discussions cease.
