Wests tigers 2011

This is straight from 2002, as others have said. There is a generation of fans that exist now, that had no previous allegience to Balmain or Wests, and just about everyone I know these days has forgot about us versus them, and most people I know talk about playing more games at both campbelltown and leichhardt instead of SFS
Im an old Balmain fan myself, but cheer for both the Balmain and Magpies sides in NSW cup, and despite the occasional slip of the tongue, referring to the West Tigers as Balmain, but am super glad we merged, there would be no Balmain or wests if we didn't. Hater should think about that being so pro cambelltown (which is half the home only of the magpies)
Im rambling, but backward thinking like this gets me frstrated!

:wtf Give urself an upper cut whoever you are!…... nufin more or nufin less... suggest you go and support your local AFL club.. you would fit just perfect in that crowd!! :crazy

He has a point in regards to the travelling fans (or lack of them to Campbelltown).

PS: If you are going to post something then please learn to spell or buy a dictionary.

i'd like to see the statistics that he is using to base that argument, specifically the one that shows that Balmain fans don't travel

I think forum rules prevent him posting a picture of his backside…

this thread actually demonstrates how much the club, its fans and this forum has grown over the past 10 years.
Not long ago this thread would have blown up into a full-on flame war!
interesting…

My apologises :master: didn't realise i was being judged on my spelling… will keep that in mind next time i post next!..

Id guess that more than half our fans are from neither cambelltown or Balmain, so they prob have to travel to whether we are playing. Until recently i prob lived about the same distance to cambelltown and leichhardt, and confess to travelling to Leichhardt more regularly than Campbelltown, mostly cause I think Leichhardt has better atomshpere. Maybe others feel the same, but even if Balmain fans do travel less, who cares, the merger is great.

I was a balmain fan living in macarthur when the merger occured.

It was the best thing ever to me, as my ailing club survived, and now I was privy to seeing them play more local HOME games, as the trek to leichhardt was pretty unfogiving for a young man from the south west.

I took it as a compromise that my great team survived.

The Magpies fans have to realise something - they may have lost their MAGPIES logo, along the way, but they need to look at it this way.

The WESTS TIGERS are always called that. WESTS tigers. they will always be given a fair go interms of the merger. Its the first word that is said in any official communication when the team gets mentioned.

Illawarra dont have that. Commonly referred to as simply "St George" the Illawarra part of the name is routinely dropped, and with it drops the brand familiarity.

WESTS TIGERS have done a remarkable job of keeping the Footy spirit alive and well throughout the macarthur area. Wests Leagues at campbelltown is a much improved venue, and and pushes the Football team down your throat more than most Leagus clubs ive seen, (in a good way mind you)and in much more recent times, the NRL have also have evened out the home game setup. 4 at each venue is a perfect setup, which is a nod to where most of our fans come from - Macarthur area, Leichhardt/Balmain/Haberfield area, and the general Sydney area.

All I can say is mate, be thankful that the WESTS moniker hasn't been dropped - the PIES were a hopelessly woeful team in desperate need of financial aid, and the BALMAIN tigers were staring down the barrel of ruin.

And here we are 11 years later, financially doing well, TV ratings the highest when the tigers play, they are everyones "2nd favourite" team. We are also a team with one premiership under our belt, and a team who can be considered genuine title contenders not only this year, but with most if its current crop contracted, contenders for the next three years.

Look forwards mate, not backwards.

The best is yet to come.

I've found that the only people still looking to the past are those that don't actually attend Wests Tigers games, or are Souths fans.

Since the original poster is unable/unwilling to provide statistics to back up his claims, here are some that _might_ be useful:

Wests Tigers traditional home grounds crowds (moving average) since 2000\. Orange = Leichhardt, Black = Campbelltown

draw what ever conclusions you wish…

This is an example of where a simple Facebok "Like" utton would be of great use

Balmain definately need Wests…......but at the time of the merger we saved your backside. So lets call it even and enjoy whats been a very successfull merger where the next generation of kids will love Wests Tigers, not Balmain or Wests.

Move on old son, you'll live longer.

I've been to leichhardt, campbelltown, kogarah, parramatta, penrith all over the shop, even to sunny huddersfield, to support my team. I was balmain before the merger, but we are now wests tigers. I love my team and really don't give two stuffs where we play as long as I have a club to watch play. Standalone, balmain or wests might not have survived, but together we are a pretty awesome thing.

People don't like it, don't follow the team. Nobody is putting a gun to your head.

My final word…...if it's good enough for Laurie Nichols it should be good enough for everyone.

BAHAHAHAHA Crap! I just spat my drink into the keyboard!

Well hater, you certainly got a response, if that's what you were looking for. There may well be some truth in some of the things you say that are going on behind the scenes. My mum was the biggest magpie fan I knew, and she could never embrace the merger because she said it was "all Balmain" in the media and everywhere else. She still thinks so today - we have arguments about this all the time :rant

As for me, the Wests Tigers are neither Wests, nor Balmain - they are a completely new team and I think that is the only way you can view it now, especially after 10 years. Otherwise, you just end up being bitter and angry and without a team to support in this fine game called rugby league.

For the record, although I was a die hard magpie fan, I didn't particularly like Cambelltown either - so I'm with the Balmain crowd there. Leichhardt and Lidcombe are our real spiritual homes. I wonder whatever happened to Lidcombe Oval - maybe they could revamp it just for me
