_I'm a little upset you didn't address my response following your reference to our diggers and our heritage - or are you backing away from your comments (read - verballing) on that now? Perhaps I made some sense? C'mon Snod, I love a good discussion following an outright verbal_.

The ANZAC analogy was a response to your apparent dismissal of anything that has gone before - you know where you said …

_"in 10 yrs time, anyone who mentions the name Balmain or Wetsern Suburbs will be seen as dinosours - if they aren't already. Anyone who tries to argue for either Balmain or Wests will be (as they already are) seen as the losers they are."_

You do realize we still play at Leichhardt for historical, not emotion free, 'rational' reasons,
and we still have seperate junior rep squadsand NSW Cup teams for historical reasons (ie to keep Wests & Balmain alive) ... I mean if you have no concern whatsoever for the heritage of this club then let's kill em both off.

Would this be like knocking the monkey off our backs or would it create a RLFC without a soul ???
Guess time would tell.

and Tighe - this is a Wests Tigers forum - what better place to discuss matters pertaining to the Wests Tigers ... ???

They should have 1 nsw cup team CALLED WESTS TIGERS and sheens had said that from the start and lamb before him.

Tigh dont worry you wernt the ning nong that started this thread.

I disagree keep the 2 teams in pemier league for 1 reason Extra players that may need to be called upon if needed in NRL

Hey Tighe where do you get this idea I don't support the Wests Tigers ??? Come on dude, wedge politics is so 1996 (note John Howard - boat people etc)
And guess what - I too support the Wests and Balmain lower grade teams - have seen both clubs SG Ball teams going gang busters in the opening four rounds - note Nofoaluma, Tedesco, Moses, Lovett etc for the big stuff in a few years. The only one talking us v them is you.

The Leichhardt bait was just that - an over ripe prawn on the end of a very rusty hook. An example of heritage you consider important (as do I by the way). See if the WT decided to move to the South West, or Gosford or the hilly parts of Northern Swaziland that would maybe get you thinking a bit … no? Maybe just furrow your brow a little. Well Hater, and a few old Wests supporters have a similar view re the NSW Cup situation where Wests juniors are being frog marched across town to play in orange - can't see why you can't acknowledge and perhaps respect that that might upset a few ruddy faced Magpies . No ones talking baby and bathwater here - just fine print really. And tolerance ...

What a load you can only have your top 25 players having 2 teams cost more money and most of the players that we promote are from our u20s side. The only reason we have both teams is because they want to please both sides of the merger.

It will happen and i think it would be the best for the wests tigers.

Snod grass it happens to both sides so why should it upset you.Get over it.

lol….there is 1 state cup in 2011 already it's called BRET and it's propped up by Wests Tigers contracted players and Wests Juniors.....FACT......

What would the balmain faction be upset about?

Why would i geo im saying we should have 1 team in the state cup.Its the wests guys that need to get over it.

Who starts all these threads… who they go for tell me.

Now cheer for both sides but when It comes to crunch and they play each other I pick the team I grew up with which is Wests And I don't care if my fellow Tiger Fanatics cheer for Balmain when they clash . Just hope its a good game and no one gets hurt Shouldn't we all look at it this way We are all Tigers til we die and is seen on this forum we are not going to agree on everything . So lets get on with it and get over it .GO TIGERS

I have been a Balmain Tigers Football Club member for 14 years (since my 18th Birthday) and was a Balmain Fan since the mid 80's.

If I am at a game I now cheer just as loudly for our Wests brothers as I do the Tigers.

We are one, its not a perfect marriage but then there is no such thing as a perfect marriage

I hope one day that the game goes back to having a proper reserve grade comp with games before first grade, just like it used to be i.e. Presidents Cup, Reserve Grade, First Grade. If this happens I reckon we should merge right down to under 21's.

The thing that I always point out to people in regards to this Balmain/Wests thing is that both teams still exist, follow them in state cup and forget about the Wests Tigers - you don't NEED to have anything to do with the joint venture.

Couldn't have said it better myself…............Thanks Helmesy

I agree with every single point you make helmesy. 100% agreed! I was a Balmain fan before the merger and grew up going to Wests games cause my uncle was a huge fan. He's probably the staunchest Wests fan I know! He tells everyone he doesnt have a team in the NRL because there's no Western Suburbs Magpies and doesn't give a damn about the Wests Tigers. I think if people are so pro Western Suburbs Magpies or Balmain Tigers they should take the same stand. I cant wait for our State Cup teams to merge and become the Wests Tigers because really, I really don't give a damn about Balmain and Western Suburbs because the Wests Tigers is my team. If Balmain and Western Suburbs are doing great in State Cup then yeah I'm happy for them but if they're not then I really dont lose any sleep over it.

If you grew up following Balmain or Wests back in the day, then you are likely to have fond memories of those clubs before the merger..

You have your favourite players, you remember the mascot running up & down the sideline, the team logo & colours, the joy & anguish of wins & defeats + many other things.

I followed Balmain in the 80's, i remember trading the footy cards that came wrapped with the bubble gum at primary school amongst friends.. Some of my favourite players were Jack, Sironen, Elias, Pearce, Brasher & Roach, and i remember the clubs favourite supporter Laurie Nichols..

Each supporter has his roots to the club & you cant expect them to start fresh with the merge..
It might be easier for some of the younger fans who started following NRL at the time of the merge, but as with people like me, i am a little bias.

When i watch West Tigers play, my mind automatically assumes that im supporting Balmain Tigers of old, the team i grew up to support & love as a kid..

So what im saying is, its ok to be bias towards your former club, be it West or Balmain..

Aslong as you support & follow West Tigers, then we are both in it to win it, TOGETHER!

Where they play is irrelevant to me.. But leichardt does have better atmosphere

Thw Wests Sfs for atmosphere craps over both Leichhardt and Cambo….we should play all our home games there....

Where Did the Hater go.

One post only - Guys you should be nicer to our Newbies….

Now Im actually gonna read this thread.... Slow day at work.

Isn't it about time all you guys stop attacking each other and smell the roses?
Hater is obviously well named - but I think 'bitter' might be a better moniker.
It is true ,however , almost anyone over 10 years old who supports Wests Tigers would have come from one of the previous supporter bases (Balmain or Wests).
This being the case you can't expect people who may have followed a team for 50 years to fake amnesia and be happy everafter without a little pain.
Memories don’t fade so fast for those of us who have had a love affair with our team (ask a North Sydney supporter).
I’m 55 years old but still feel just as crappy when Wests Tigers lose as I did when they were Balmain Tigers.
I am one of those dinosaurs Tigh was talking about who won’t forget Balmain -
but that doesn’t mean I can’t embrace the “new ‘ Tigers.
I , like plenty of others ,cheer for both Wests and Balmain – but when they eventually play each other I go for the Tigers.
So shoot me.
Anyone who thinks that the traditions of Balmain and Western Suburbs that bought this great new club together should be forgotten are misguided.
Do they tell their kids to forget about their grandparents because they are irrelevant now?
Without history , heritage and hard work the current Wests Tigers would not exist .
Sure , I will always love the Balmain Tigers and cherish the memories ( good and bad ) of my life growing up as a Tiger supporter.
Through circumstances they are now Wests Tigers and because of a history that includes Balmain I still love ‘em.
Just an afterthought for Tigh – don’t be so sure to that your kids won’t ever embrace the history of their team.
And don’t be so arrogant that you can dismiss all of our ( Balmain and Wests supporters) memories just because you were born in Rozelle ( by the way my grandfather was too )

Wests Tigers have given me more joy and more memories than Balmain or Western Suburbs ever did. I consider myself bloody lucky to be able to have both Leichardt and Cambo as home grounds. I am happy to watch the legacies of the magpies and balmain fade into obscurity if means the WESTS TIGERS will be a better team.

We are in the middle of our golden era. I think most of us understand that in one way or another. We were such unlikely allies 10 years ago but we are very much a family now. With every great collaboration comes comprimise and sacrifice. Dont let the perfect get in the way of the good.

I agree with that tigers and im pretty sure all of us feel the same deep down. This thread suggested its all about the balmain side which is BS.

We werent unlikely really balmain and west were always pretty close.

You read me wrong cktiger. I, like you, am one of our older forum members (I'm not far behind you). I consider myself to be one of the fans that our kids see as an 'old dinosour'. I wasn't referring to Hater as a Dinosour because he went for Wests - I was making the point that anyone (such as Hater) who comes out with the tired old Wests v Balmain argument would be seen as the dinosours they are - and I stand by that comment. NO WHERE DID I STATE THAT LOVING YOUR ROOTS (WHATEVER THEY MAY BE) MADE YOU A DINOSOUR - SIMPLY THAT THE PROPOGATION OF THE TIRED OLD PATHETIC ARGUMENT THAT ONE SIDE OF THE MERGER WAS BETTER OR WORSE, OR MORE OR LESS DESERVING THAN THE OTHER MAKES YOU A DINOSOUR.

And perhaps it is not I that should be accused of being arrogant (glasshouses ck)- when I have been the one misquoted by yourseIf. I did not "dismiss all of your memories just because I was born in Rozelle" in fact - on the contrary, I was drawing on those memories to make my point. I was as die hard Balmain as they come - now I am die hard Wests Tigers. And anyone who chooses to denigrate either Wests Tigers, Balmain, or Western Suburbs and chooses to veil such divisive statements under the guise of tradition and memories is a coward. They should just come out and say it - that are still pissed off that their original team isn't in the NRL, and they hate the other side of the merger - and can't bring themselves to follow the wests tigers….....I say good, each to their own - now run along and go somewhere else and follow another sport, and let us get on with following our wests tigers in the NRL.

Please cktiger - don't misquote me or verbal. Comment yes - but don't verbal.

Tigh - when you read bedtime stories to your kids do they pull the covers up real tight to just in below there nostrils and peer unblinkingly back at you with wide eyes ???

Boy , it doesn't take much for you guys to get your ( hopefully black , white and gold) knickers in a knot!
Firstly to Tigh - I love your passion for Wests Tigers and my reference to you being arrogant about mentioning you were born in the heart of TigerTown related to you using it to prove even the most ardent supporter can embrace the merger. I totally agree with that part - only you followed it up with ' in 10 yrs time, anyone who mentions the name Balmain or Wetsern Suburbs will be seen as dinosours - if they aren't already. Anyone who tries to argue for either Balmain or Wests will be (as they already are) seen as the losers they are.’I realize now ( after re- reading your post ) the second part of that was aimed at the losers
( your word) intent on bringing Balmain or Wests back as stand alone teams – and really I don’t think anyone thinks that is even a possibility.
I’m pretty sure you didn’t mean you wouldn’t want anyone to mention either name again ( well I hope not).
If you read my post you will notice that I love the West Tigers - only asking you don’t
tell me to forget our past.
As for Geo ‘WHO CARES ABOUT THE PAST…..’ and Chris ‘I really don't give a damn about Balmain and Western Suburbs because the Wests Tigers is my team. ‘
please remember you that wouldn’t have a team to support if there was no merger between these two great clubs of the past.
This is a Wests Tigers forum - let’s acknowledge where we came from and ALL enjoy the culmination of our combination.

Thanks ck - I reckon we are on the same page - just a different way of expressing ourselves I guess.

Well, I guess that may be the case Snod, but by their bedtime - unfortunately I'm too busy all cammed up with shoe polish across my face hiding in the bushes around Leichhardt Oval waiting to pounce on any misguided Balmain Haters that dare tread foot near the 'old girl'…...... :roll

If you're referring to passion for my footy team Snod - no apologies here old mate. If you're referring to my semming enjoyment in a good old fashioned argument - guilty!
