"Wests Tigers Tim Simona was recently sacked for breaching NRL gambling rules. His problem was too much spare time to gamble with insufficient cash. Surely the club, or his manager, Moses, could have solved both problems simultaneously by securing him a supervised part-time job".

Deary my. So much stupidity in this comment from Masters that I wouldn't know where to begin.

Well it worked in the 70s!

I think that the managers should be held to the same account as their players. Anyone else remember a certain client of Sam Ayoub paying a very high price for betting when Sam escaped without consequence. Sam should have been held to as high a standard as his player. Cmon you are getting sometimes as much as 25% of the contract value, that's huge, that should involve some risk.

Simona got banned, but what happened to Moses?

Media are saying official announcement on Cleary signing will be on Monday
Many here are taking it as gospel
Wouldnt surprise me if it didnt happen

**Incoming Wests Tigers coach Ivan Cleary to make call on juggling club and country**
>
Ivan Cleary will make a call on whether he is able to juggle club and country duties when he is installed as the new Wests Tigers coach this week.
>
Cleary is expected to be officially announced as Jason Taylor's replacement in the coming days and could be in the coach's box as soon as the round six encounter with North Queensland. The former Penrith and Warriors mentor had recently committed to overseeing the Lebanese national team's preparations for the Rugby League World Cup, which begin on with a Phoenician Cup clash with Malta on May 6\. However, it remains to be seen whether Cleary is capable of filling both roles given the enormity of the task he faces at the joint-venture outfit.
>
Lebanese Rugby League Federation chief executive Remond Safi is hopeful Cleary will remain with the Cedars despite the Tigers appointment.
>
"Having an NRL coach linked to your nation is a big plus," Safi said. "It's massive awareness for us globally, not just locally.
>
"We totally understand the commitment he has to give to the club. There's nothing official yet and nothing has been formally discussed.
>
"It's still business as usual, nothing has changed with us at the moment. We're hoping that everything stays as planned and nothing changes.
>
"He still needs to find out what he needs to do for the club with his contract with them. It's still early."
>
Cleary kick-started Lebanon's World Cup preparations with a gathering of prospective players, including Mitchell Moses, Robbie Farah and Tim Mannah, at Canterbury Leagues Club a fortnight ago.
>
It appears Moses is destined to be coached by Cleary this year in some capacity.
>
"Whether it's for the Tigers or Lebanon, we'll look forward to it," Moses said.
>
"But at the moment for the Tigers, we're focusing on that.
>
"I met Ivan the other week, we had a meeting with the Lebanon side, but there was no footy talk, just about the World Cup campaign."
>
Former NSW coach Phil Gould questioned the fitness of the Tigers players after they faded badly after running out to an early lead against Melbourne last weekend. Asked about Gould's observation, Webster said: "We're learning lessons about how to play the whole 80 minutes.
>
"The perceptions about the fitness – Gus is a very experienced guy and has strong opinions. I'm certainly not going to take anything away from Gus, but from our point of view if we're building more pressure we can handle our energy systems a little bit better and build some pressure.
>
"When you don't do that it will hurt you physically and that's what everyone has seen right now."
>
The Tigers need a win against the Dragons in order to remain in touch with the premiership pace-setters. Webster said he was enjoying his short time in the top job.
>
"Now we're two weeks in, the phone calls have stopped and everything is a little bit quieter," Webster said.
>
"You find out who wants to be a part of the team. When things are going easy, it's all well and good but when times are tough you find out people's true character.
>
"The way we handled last week, we've got some great people that want to work hard for each other."
>
Jack Littlejohn will fill in for injured halfback Luke Brooks, who is expected to be out for three weeks with hamstring problems.
>
"He has a lot of energy, he's always pushing up on the ball, and he's done a job for us before," Moses said of Littlejohn.
>
"It's not like he's playing first first-grade game. He knows what to do."

You need to stay away from whatever it is that you're drinking

The Tigers never sacked Mick Potter, they just never renewed his contract.
His contact expired he was not sacked.

If Cleary is appointed, hopefully in his role as Lebanon coach he has identified a couple of NRL quality players from the Beirut Bulldogs that he can bring over with him.

Hear the No 9 might come cheap …

Is Oz in the same international competition?

That number 9 was probably in the highest scoring team (?) in RL history as well as been in team thrashed about 50-0\. He must wonder what side of the bed he got up on some days.

Yes! Thank you.
I've been reading over and over about all these sacked coaches and it had been irking me Potter is conveniently added in for effect.

**Wests Tigers prop Tim Grant to welcome Ivan Cleary at Concord**

IVAN Cleary will walk into Concord on Monday and be delivered the front row forward he ordered four years ago with Tim Grant declaring he is now the marathon man his former coach wanted him to be in 2014.

One of four former Panthers that will be reunited with Cleary as soon as Monday, Grant revealed how a series of frank discussions with his ex-Penrith coach helped transform him into this year’s 63 minute-a-match meter-eater.

In a remarkable game-time rise, Grant is averaging more than double the match minutes he played while last under Cleary. The former NSW hard-man was averaging just 31 minutes in 2014.

“We had a lot of conversations while I was at Penrith,’’ Grant said.

“A lot of the way I am playing like now has to do with him. He helped me understand a lot about my game and mature as a player. I really think I am the player now he wanted me to be back then.

“I have the balance he was after.’’

Penrith junior Grant was controversially “off-loaded’’ by Cleary to the Rabbitohs at the end of 2014.

“We had salary cap issues at the time and I understand what happened,’’ Grant said.

“I was on a back ended deal and they had all there money in five players. Looking back I understand the decision and I have matured as a person and a player.’’

Grant said he was looking forward to his reunion with Cleary — the former Warrior and Panther expected to be announced as Jason Taylor’s replacement on Monday — and declared him the man to turn the Tigers into a final’s force.

‘I can see a lot of similarities to 2011 when Ivan came to the Panthers,’’ Grant said.

“He had a lot of young players and had to turn the club around. And he did it, look at them now. A similar thing needs to be done here. I can definitely see the fit of him coming here and he is the right man.’’

Grant is in the verge of living up to his promise and recapturing the form that saw him selected as an Origin bolter for NSW in 2012.

The 110kg giant has been training seven days a week since December.

“I have finally got the training and recovery balance right,’’ Grant said.

“I have worked out how to get my body right after high loads and what works for me to recover. For me it has been training seven days a week. On my days off I will swim at least 1km, which aids in my recovery. Then I will finish with 10 minutes of lung busting to get the hard rate up.

“I also haven’t had a night out on the drink since before Christmas.’’

Grant said Cleary would be coaching a much improved player when they are brought back together.

“I think I know the game a lot better now,’’ Grant said.

“Having a few different coaches has taught me different things. Madge taught me how to grind a game and JT taught me things too.

“Playing the extra minutes helps the team. The beauty of it is the young guys that can’t play those minutes can come on and rip in before I get on and play out the match. Being able to play long minutes means those young players don’t have to save themselves or manage their workload.’’

Won't Robbie outplay Cam Smith in the 2017 SOO series and win the Australian jersey BBF ??

It has been many moons since the Guy who walked on water was with us. Actually Him and Farah appear to have the same use by date.

Whether you love Phil Gould or hate him you have to admit he can be pretty insightful. Never more so than when he recently said something about Tigers needing Cleary but questioning whether Cleary needs the Tigers. Let's hope Cleary can get them to take responsibility for their mistakes.

What a way to start. Imagine your first job being trying to convince the games premier fullback not to abandon this rabble of a ship. Could you be given a more difficult job? If Tedesco re-signs from here, Pascoe needs to add a zero onto Cleary's salary
