You sound like an educated footy person mate, and you would know it’s a game mostly played between the ears. Get players with desire and application and bring them together as brothers and that’s generally a winning formula.Man Brisbane won a comp with Shane Perry as their half because the team 1-17 external of halfback was basically the qld origin team .
All Bennett had to do that year was keep the boys from too many nose beers at 1am and it was a sure thing .
Not much X and O required that year .
The best coaches reinvented the wheel and defined an era .
Gibson , Warren Ryan both at the dogs then again in the late 90s at the knights , sheens in 05 , then Bellamy and Hasler in the late 00s (for the worse IMO. But they won a lot).
Everyone else is winning because of cattle , and buy in . Very little X and O difference .
Beyond our best 7-8 players it’s a pretty thin roster. This is pretty widely recognised. Why do you think this?
I think he’s got a grace period this year but the knives will likely be out if he doesn’t assemble a competitive squad next year.We all know how it goes. The coach always gets blamed regardless of reputation or lack there of. Benji knows the drill. How long he gets will depend on the players he has no choice but to put his faith in - their attitude their performance.
They will make ot break him just like it happens at every other club no matter who's name is on the coaches hat.
And fans will jump on board calling for his head quicker than most ,- the very reason why our options in attracting any coach - let alone one with a reputation - resulted in what we ended up with.
You don't have to be a genius or have a crystal ball to work out his back is against the wall from the get go.
“Journalism”What’s the deal here? 🤔

Just look at Blore, im not a fan but probably one of our most dangerous forwards last year and struggling to get a jersey down there. The coaches with ‘super coach’ reputations all walked into clubs pretty stacked with talent. I agree we all should give Benji time, he will be judged more on the playing talent he can attract than his tactical abilities.Give Bennett or Bellamy this roster & even they don’t finish in the top 8… it’s why I won’t be judging Benji too harshly this season. I just want to see actual player development for once.
Bennett showed long ago he can’t get weak rosters into the 8. Idk you why named dropped him.Give Bennett or Bellamy this roster & even they don’t finish in the top 8… it’s why I won’t be judging Benji too harshly this season. I just want to see actual player development for once
Well if we are being honest, there’s a chance we get beat by 40 on Saturday.
Let’s hope they all turn up on their A game and either win or a loss by a small margin.
First paragraph makes sense. The second doesn’t to me. Got nothing to do with boomers, rather the circle of 50 yo’s you know. People in leadership roles don’t think about hrs paid or give me ten tasks and I’ll finish them, can I go now? The successful ones just do what needs to be done. Lead by example. Look for extra tasks. The incentive should be working part of a team to achieve “x”. If you’re working for someone just for a pay packet then that’s ok as well.how does a player know why Benji turned up 3 hrs late to training ?
I can list 10 things straight off the top of my head, football related that would more than justify this :
Meeting with board
Meeting with ceo
Meeting with player manager
Meeting with player
Meeting with experienced ex coach
Watching video
Meeting with retention and recruitment
Meeting with medical staff
Zoom calls with nrl about things like expectations , refereeing etc.
Zoom/teams meetings at my work start at 7am some days . Right when you want to be on your way to work / starting .
There is so much to nrl coaching that has sweet F A to do with actual coaching . This talk is Boomer talk times 1000 .
Every single 50 plus dude in my industry is sitting around doing nothing after certain hours of the day , wasting time when they shouldn’t because there’s no incentive to work hard .
There’s no way on earth that if your at work at 9pm after getting there at 5am that your even 50% attentive to what your doing . There’s a reason legally you’re supposed to go home after 12 hrs or fill out a fatigue assessment . Because you’re doing nothing productive afterwards .
Seriously if people were given 10 hrs of tasks and told the sooner they did it the sooner they go home , but they would be paid for the 10 hrs of work . Everyone would work thier tail off , and most would figure out how to maximise efficiency for themselves .
But because we live in this backwards logic of “I’m PaYiNg YOu To Be HeRe so YoU NeEd to Be HeRe” . If there’s an incentive to flog yourself ie. go home , everyone would . But no one is flogging themselves for no reason .
If Benji can maximise his productivity within a shorter period of time , then anybody debating that is seriously stuck in the past …
All the signs are this is going to be Benjis only season as coach
From player interviews
1. Benji is serious sometimes and jokes around other times and sometimes you don’t know if he’s being serious or joking. (I.e confusion for players)
2. Benji stepped me at training and went past me and it was like a dream (players see him as an idol not as a coach - hard to cross over and be both)
From Benji interviews
1. I don’t believe in being an all encompassing coach because there’s more to life than football. (He hasn’t earned the right to be so relaxed as a coach)
My view is that the only way benji gets fired this year (I know Luai is coming for him) is that we lose more than 10 games straight ie worse than last year.
If we haven’t won at least 2 games by round 17 I think they’ll come up with a narrative that “he got put in early and it was a challenge and benji loves the club and wants to put it first by leaving)
Best case Wayne comes in and maybe benji goes to assistant for two years
Minimum is that farah won’t be here.
But I reckon there’s a 25% chance Benji will be successful this year.
Good luck and wish him all
The best but same as everyone last year living in hope with sheens.
Everyone said the same thing.
But looking at logical reasoning - rookie coach, rookie assistant coach, coming off two wooden spoons, bottom 4 squads, being quite relaxed in his work ethic … means it’s going to be bloody hard for him
??? That’s horse shit ! The only reason someone wants to do extras is to impress someone else to get a promotion/ pay rise . Or they own the company .First paragraph makes sense. If you’re working for someone just for a pay packet then that’s ok as well.
As per a lot of posters I’ll judge benjis approach on wins and player recruitment/retention. The post in question seems fishy one way or another.
