Wests Tigers confirm Gibbs and Fifita departure

The moment Cronulla lost Snowden on top of Douglas you knew they wld be desperate to pay premium prices to recruit a 1st grade standard front row
As we're already struggling with the salary cap ,its simply the most expedient course of action for Tigers to offload a few forwards who are in demand in the maketplace. My guess is Fulton wld have been preferred to Fifita, but other clubs probably not queing up for an 80-something kg backrower-so we are where we are.
It all means having lost 3 first grade props in one season so were going to be short yet again of experienced props,so one or both of Blair & Ellis will have to move forward next yr
Was it all (ie Blair)worth the losses….probably not, particularly if he gets injured early in the season.
Cld we have held onto Fifita given what he was offered by Sharks...maybe,but not if Blair is a done deal.We had the opportunity to see next yr with our option whether Fifita was going to develop into a rep standard prop & pay him accordingly
Should we have let McKinnon go early-most definitely.Ive no idea why we bought an injury prone 29 yo back in the first place,as they dont get healthier with age.Do we have a replacement f/b next yr-either Moltzen or Mullaney or Meaney will have to step up,& its a giant step for all three

Past history now.
i will enjoy cheering for fifita and gibbs next year, but not against us.They deserve their pay day.Good luck to em

The simple reality is that Gibbs was pushed out -as he recently said on Twitter. And Fifita left for more money - as Humphreys has said.

I'm sad to see both of them leave.

The fact we had Fifita on such a thread bare feeble hold is pathetic….to allow another club to just waltz in and wave a wad of cash under his nose to entice him away is amateur.
The fact it conveniently gets the club out of a bind also is what really grinds my gears....then the spin that accompanies the departure....theyve lost this member

dont believe humphreys Ink - its not true - its the biggest cover up since the kennedy assination - just because humphreys says something means jack - he has to cover himself and the club - what do you expect from him the truth. great post Ink. one of the people with brains on this forum.

I agree with plenty of others that I find it strange we have signed a bloke who appears as though he doesn`t want to be a prop anymore despite first making his name as a prop, yet we we have released two props in order to sign him.
No one is a bigger fan than I am of promoting young talent, but props take longer than anyone else to obtain the toughness required to play well in the NRL on a regular basis.
At the end of the day I suppose it depends which Adam Blair turns up. If we get the tough and fearless Adam Blair who will get deep, take the first hit up of each set and run the ball aggressively we have done the right thing, but if we get the Adam Blair of this season who is more interested in being a ball player we`ll be in big trouble!

Ink and X: the basis for my assertion that Gibbs was pushed out is his own statement to that effect; the basis for my assertion that Fifita left for more money, as his contract entitled him to do, is the statement made by Humphreys.
Why do you say that Humphrey's statement on Fifita's departure is incorrect?

I was sad that we released Corey Payne… but since then the only good thing he has done is beat up Hayne.
Daine Laurie showed great potential but we released him, and look at him now.
Arana Taumata had great speed and slippery hands but the club released him.

I trust that every decision made by the club are for the betterment of our team. They want to win just as much as the fans and in the past they have shown pretty good judgement.

Not doubting anything you said…..Ive heard Gibbs too, the fact we just let anyone come and take Fifita is an insult to paying members
The whole scenario stinks to me

Let them take Fifita - what kind of club would we be if one of our players get offered $150k a year more then we are willing to pay him and for 2 more years and we forced him too miss out - talk about sending a bad message to other players - they need to know the club has thier best interests at heart too - the Sharks needed starting props - both guys who left are probably bench props for us next year and would you prefer we had a worse team or would you prefer we were over the salary cap and got kicked out like Melbourne next year

Yep,those three wont make it,but Lewis Brown,Peni Tagive & Rhys Priychard have proved theyre all better than many of our current backs
We dont always get it rite..far from it

Offloading Tagive was probably a Salary Cap decision… Too many injuries being eaten up by the cap, so offloading him and gaining partial exemption is just the business we are in... Pritchard has been going ok, but I wouldnt say either are any better than the current players at the Tigers yet?!

The Dragons offered Tagive twice as much as the Tigers did, and given how injury prone he has been, well it would have been very hard for the Tigers to double his money since he has only played something like 7 or 8 games in 2 seasons for them. And again, he missed all of last season for the Dragons with a knee recon so it proved to be the right decision in the end.

Not to mention his defence is woeful. Yow Yeh found him out in a big way last night. I'm definitely not losing sleep over Tagive. Pritchard looked OK for the Roosters against Melbourne, but the Storm didn't let him get involved enough. I'd say I'd prefer him at the back over Moltzen, but not McKinnon or Brown.

Well,Tagive being out all last season with a knee problem is simply bad luck(which admittedly he's had a lot of)..but .he looks more robust this year.He had an injured Hornby defending outside him last nite, which didnt reflect well on either of them.If he was still at Tigers he'd be the second best winger in the club by daylite.I doubt whether Dragons with their roster cld pay him more than his worth ,which was always going to be as the reserve winger behind Morris & Nightingale..maybe we just didnt appreciate him and/or offered him peanuts.
No-one mentioned Lewis Brown,Kiwi international. We certainly didnt spot that talent.
Pritchard has looked good for Easts this yr,& has gotta be at least on par with Brown & ahead of Ryan/Fitzhenry(who kept him out of 1sts)& Moltzen at centre. He's no superstar, but brings a bit more to the table than "enthusiasm"or "try celebration" skills

The few losses over that last few years that irked me were Bronson Harrison ,Scott Prince and Hodgo . Prince in particular as we knew for a long time he would not stay . (He used us as a lifeline to save his career ) And why we weren't finding someone better than Morris to replace him just after we won a premiership was crazy . Harrison was played out of position and until this year has played out of his skin . Hodgo , what can you say about him I would of preferred Hodgo at half back than Morris and let Morris go
