Wests Tigers confirm Gibbs and Fifita departure

On the contrary, I would be very surprised to see Blair at the Knights. It just won't happen.

They have just splashed out plenty of $$ on Snowden and Boyd, amongst the other players they have picked up. They don't have the salary cap space to fit him in.

Blair will be in tiger colours in 2012 and like Simon the Tiger I think Fulton has been playing okay and has plenty to offer the team. A very versatile footballer can play all sorts of roles for the team. To win big matches you need players who have skill and Fulton has more skill than most backrowers running around

I'm not happy with this

Tigers have struggled with front rowers,
Tigers have a plethora of second rowers.

so what do we do, we let one of the most promissing young front rowers in the game go, and sign another second rower.

Mystified

want to clear something up

people seem **very confused** over the nature of Fifita's departure

it is different to Bryce - Gibbs was released him from his contract. The Tigers had **total control** over that.

We actually took up Fifita's option! We wanted to keep him! However, he did not want to stay. **He left.**
Cronulla offered much better money and he took it. And I don't think we were offering chump change either.
He would still have been paid quite well at the Tiges from what everyone has reported.

This was Fifita's decision and not the club's. It is far from a horrible decision on our behalf, and the fact that we actually took up his option shows we wanted to keep the guy. **He didn't want to stay.**

We only dumped Gibbs to make way for Blair. Not Fifita.
But thankyou, Andrew, for easing our cap concerns just that little more.

Well said Krayola. We couldn't match the cash - nor should we. If we splashed out and kept Andrew, then we lose Begovich and Groat down the track.

More trust in the people who make the decisions is what we need (Wow, that souned very Yoda)!

Can't wait to hear what Humph has to say tonight on One…..

Interesting little snippet in the tele today where Humprheys said thta these 2 changes will now give us room to pursue Blair - was as close as you will find for saying that Blair is signing for the Tigers

Its back to law school for you krayola. By taking up its option on Fifita the club had him contracted to play with us for next year. The fact the Sharks were offering him a lot more cash is irrelevant. The club has had control over both departures.

This is my first post
I can't belive the club could let fifita go this would have to the worst decsion this club has ever made
This kid will be up their with the best soon.
Gibbs should have gone after 2005 GF he has not scored a try since then & has done nothing & will do nothing at the sharks could not care
Are the tigers going to hold onto fullton?
The club said they needed to let some older players go Fifta must be getting old after signing his contract
3 weeks ago Not happy
I don't blame Fifita in any way.
Need more then Adam Blair

pretty much agree with everything you say, however Gibbs not scoring a try since the 05 shouldn't mean anything as he doesn't get paid to score tries

This is my understanding as well. The club let him go because what we are offering him and what Cronulla are offering him are extremely different. We let him go so he could earn more money.

_**I'd be inclined to keep him and upgrade his pay.**_

Upgrade his pay with what? Buttons? It looks to me that we're making room to fit under the cap and sign on Blair so there won't be much left to upgrade his contract with.

In Fifita's case, it's a complex situation that could have worked out in so many different ways and as someone said, it's a game where one tackle could finish your career so why not allow him to chase the bucks while he can.

It's a shame that the IC wasn't in place and a new TV deal secured so that the clubs could have had an indicative figure of what the cap would be lifted to with the extra revenue, then we might have been able to keep him and upgrade his contract.

then I'm more than happy to eat humble pie and admit that perhaps I'm the one that's confused

however, we do not know what the option is that the tigers exercised, just that it allowed us the right to extend his contract.

I would think that such an option is in place because it allows the club the right to make the FIRST offer to the player regarding where he plays at the end of the scheduled contract.

I don't think it means he MUST play for us because we exercised the option. it just allows us to an extend an offer that was previously agreed to when he signed his original contract.

again, more than happy to admit i'm wrong, and that yes, clearly, I do not know the ins and outs of his contract or anybody's for that matter.

but for people to bag the club for Fifita's departure is off. I don't think we dumped him on his arse or shopped him around. I feel his situation is different from Bryce's. He's taking the money. Don't blame him either.

Shocking to lose a player like Fifita who is young and a great prop. Since when was Adam Blair the new Glen Lazarus? I would've preferred to keep Fifita and find a fullback.

We can always buy Fifita back later! It's not like he will always be gone for good. We did the right thing by him and if the junior props don't excel like expected, we can buy him back when he is reaching his peak as a prop.

I think you will find that the sort of money Fifta is getting at the sharks is in the same league as what we are offering Blair minus any third party agreements. So it would have had the same effect on our cap, would imagine which option we took Blair or Fifita their was never going to be any room for a quality fullback.

Anyway Iam sure the club gave it plenty of thought, lets hope it was the right decision as we know they dont always get it right (Ohara comes to mind!!!)

maybe if we are cunning, we can send cronulla David Fifita (they are identical)…....and next year we will still have Andrew (who seems to be David). Are you confused.....because I am.

No but seriously, David Fifita has been playing a lot more prop for Wests in NSW cup whereas in the past has been a second rower. Is there any chance that Sheensy is maybe trying to mould him into a clone of his brother?

Not sure which law school you went to PP, but at most they teach the full range of contractual options. We do not know what form of option this contract had. Many forms will give an out to fifita in this case. Simply put you are wrong that it is black & white in that respect.

Getting away from the legalities, I am not sure how comfortable I would be if the club could and did stick to it's digs and cost fifita a couple of hundred G's.

Conveniently the official news was released on the same day as SOO II and has now been lost in the euphoria of a NSW victory. Well played Wayne Cousins

humphreys pleaded with cronulla to not announce the signings until Wednesday. the deals were 'officially' done on Monday.

very, very smart indeed on our behalf.
