Wests Tigers could move to Ryde due to WestConnex project

Homebush would make more sense in terms of the State of The Art facilities the club would want moving forward.

After all we are contracted there for the next decade to play games so it would make sense.

Dogs train at Belmore and Bunnies at Redfern so it is not like the facility will be overflowing

I agree with this. It's a more central location than Ryde also.

Yes true …. Can't disagree with you fellas on that one.
Just find it hard to believe that no facilities exist for the club to use say between Liverpool and Camden. Wonder who currently uses these state of the art facilities at Ryde ?

All I will say is anything has to be better than where they are based now, be it Ryde/Campbelltown/Oodnadatta…

many players live a while away from campbelltown making the daily commute quite a bit longer and making the club a less attractive destination for new recruits unfortunately.

True it does make it harder for a Campbelltown commute but as long as they stay city-centric with their training facilities it makes it EASIER for new recruits.

Can't see us being in the market for many new recruits for a while with our financial state.

But I guess it closer for Anasts.

With an improved young roster this year and money in the cap 2015 promises to be a big free agent possibility.

With Anasta and Benji gone we will have close to $1 million available alone in the cap for 2015

We are spending all our salary cap at the moment (well near enough to all of it ) bar Benji's money

Surely a local on here would know of this indoor sports facility….it must be only new, I dont recall anything like that there but we only used the footy fields and Kent Rd IS a large park

I think it is Kent rd.

Took a drive there a few months back and its now set up as AFL with some sort of complex built there. Not sure whats in the complex but iy has changed significantly since i was a kid. North Ryde now play there home games out of TJ Milner

Yeh we played at TG when Brad was playing for them, but we still trained at Kent Rd and had the 50th anniversay day against Holy cross there…was a good day

I guess the locality problem affects all clubs, reading recently about Richie Faoso and his domestic argument at his home at macquarie fields...yet he trains at Narrabeen...daily

Most of the blokes are young and can share a joint...like they did at Breakfast Pt....lots of nice apt complexes going up all nearby Nth Ryde

We need to give our players the very best on offer when its for training etc , location should not matter , if its ryde or liverpool we need to go there , new players who may want to come play for us will look at distance but the facilities and coaching staff would also be a major factor, whatever is best for west tigers

MACARTHUR
Third Sydney stadium priority for Council not Wests Tigers

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - DECEMBER 04: Wests Tigers CEO, Grant Mayer speaks to the media during the NRL 2014 Season Draw Announceme…

News that the Wests Tigers NRL club could relocate from Concord Oval to North Ryde, shunning Campbelltown as a possible home, has angered Macarthur Chronicle readers and Wests Tigers fans.

Wests Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer said earlier this week that the club's future at Concord Oval was uncertain due to the State Government's WestConnex project.

"The WestConnex project could well be using Concord Oval as a car park therefore the Wests Tigers may - and I emphasise may - be looking for a new home," he said.

More than 40 posts were left on the Chronicle's Facebook page with Tessa Louise summarising local sentiment best when she said "this seems like a spit in the face to many loyal fans".

Wests Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer spoke at Tuesday night's meeting of Ryde Council and said the club's future at Concord Oval was uncertain due.

"The WestConnex project could well be using Concord Oval as a car park therefore the Wests Tigers may - and I emphasise may - be looking for a new home," he said.

Campbelltown deputy mayor Paul Lake joked that if the club keeps moving west they may end up in Western Australia.

He also said that Campbelltown Council's main objective was to become the home to Sydney's third major stadium.

"I'm over the Wests Tigers, my main concern as a member of Campbelltown Council is to lobby all relevant parties for the third major stadium in Sydney to be based in Campbelltown," he said.

Cr Lake said the stadium would bring all rugby league, rugby union and football to the Macarthur region and is ideally positioned close to the rail line and with access from all major roads

Campbelltown Mayor Clinton Mead said there was a feeling that the Wests Tigers seem to be moving away from the area.

"I think the people of Campbelltown would appreciate it if they decided to move here," he said.

"I feel there's a big hole in the market, it'd be a good symbolic gesture [to relocate to Campbelltown]."

"I imagine Ryde Council is offering Wests Tigers something to move there, the devil is in the detail.

"It is always good for businesses to be set up and they are welcome in Campbelltown."

Don't worry Mr Lake , the feeling is probably mutual , the Tigers are completely over your fat trap spitting out garbage at every given chance

Some trashy cheap shots coming from the council. Won't it be funny when this youthful side of ours clicks into gear? Can't wait to see the council back peddle and kiss the clubs backside then!

Well if the council were serious about getting the third stadium to Campbelltown they would need to be tight with the Wests Tigers.

I can't see any outside funding being allocated to a new stadium unless there was a top line tenant signed up to use it for a lengthy period.

A new stadium just for juniors and park football makes no sense at all.

The best thing that could happen after the Christmas break is for all parties to sit down. WT sit down with Ryde & Campelltown Councils and the ANZ Stadium people and see which option is the best and give the parties not in front a chance to counter offer.

That way consultation has taken place and there is the possibility of the better deal for Wests Tigers

From my understanding there is a massive gulf in cost between Ryde and the much more expensive Olympic Park option

Come back to Pratten park for training!

Ashfield mall is round the corner, pretty sure the woollies there has protein shakes.

I'll be down at least once a week to throw beer cans at the boys whenever they slack off

Hope you're ready for a liver transplant.

I checked out concord yesterday at that BBQ, and they gave a nice tour of the interior (gyms and the like). Seemed pretty decent? Could probably use a bit of a touch up but it wasn't nearly as archaic as Mayer had suggested. But obviously i haven't seen what other clubs offer, so maybe it is.

Also, blair seems like a top bloke i'm not going to lie. and other people had said in articles last presseason he was a hard worker, led by example etc. you never know what he could do next year!

was a decent day, hope it continues!

The main thing is that we have professional facilities. Doesn't matter where it is. If they already exist in Ryde, and there aren't any in Campbelltown than it's a no brainer.

If there is a suitable place with professional facilities in ctown then yes there should be discussion as to the pros and cons of each. But as has been said a central location is important. Few players live in the ctown area, or want to move there so somewhere accessible to the south west, north west and inner west is really what's needed. Yes ANZ is good for that, but Ryde is also only a couple of minutes down the road from ANZ.

I'm a good bloke too pHyR3 , but the WT's wouldn't want me wearing one of their jerseys

It will come down a few different things

Proximity to the majority of the players

Does it meet the WT's needs /requirements

Price

Proximity to the press

The Lease and how flexible it is
