Wests Tigers' cubs must grow up

Experience is only valuable if it translates into on field benefits. For the most part, it didn't.

Why don't we sign Craig Wing if we want experience. He's got lots of it??!

Because experience is worthless if you can't compete at a level which warrants your selection in the first place. We only lost 2 such players, even then anyone other than Fulton is questionable.

We need a forward leader like we had with O'Neil around 2003 - 2005\. Not particularly flash but experienced and very effective .

You usually dont have the agendas, politics and backstabbing we had this season….thats what stuffed any on field benefits.

You always need experience...always

Lets see we have a current NSW/Australian Prop in Woods…current NSW/Australian Rep in Farah...Former Origin Australian Reps Galloway, Lawrence and Premiership winners in Halatau and Richards current NZ rep in Taupau....Throw in youngsters Tedesco and Sironen as current City Reps....adding that Nofoaluma Simona Sue and Seumanufagai are no longer rookies.....Brooks will be better for the run he had last Year and his combination with Moses is well known since junior days...

Looking at the loses only Fulton and Blair could be argued as disappointing..Adding young guys like Lodge, Santi and Akaoula who bring youthful exuberance ....I don't feel we are in that bad a shape.....

Youre stretching it after **that**, imo.
But even then only three of those are on the paddock for 80…its not as bad Mr Encarnacion makes out but could be much better

100% correct. Experience is massively overrated.

You need quality players that make the right decisions. Experience often means they may make the right decision but aren't quality players. We need our younger players to prove they are quality players that can make the right decisions.

It sounds pretty good but what about indris or origin ?
That's what worries me.

Who did Galloway win a premiership with?

Galloway is a Former Origin Player and Australian Rep with 188 FG games…Lawrence Australian Rep,,,, Richards and Halatau have won Premierships if I'm not mistaken...I grouped them together...

The point has been raised that we lack/lost experience...we still have it

As for Injuries/Origin....every Club faces that....That's where the younger guys need to step up...given the experience they gained last year they will know what to expect...

We'll have our moments no doubt, and we do have a good core of young guys and a couple guys who are rep players, but having no back row and only one decent centre is going to be where we come undone. I don't know how we'll compete against the bigger packs with no back row.

What premierships have Galloway and Lawrence won?

Arrrrg…they haven't ...I just grouped them together with Halatau and Richards as experienced players...I have now fixed my original post

Stevetiger, the only way the young guns can prove that they are quality players that can make the right decision is to have experienced players around them to guide them and show them how to make the right decision…

Having experience in whatever job you have goes along way toward making the right decision...

I'm not critising your post, just trying to have some positive input.....

How'd that work out last year with Anasta Blair Paterson and Thompson?

More often than not it was those Experienced players making the wrong decisions…

Thats an extremely broad statement…experience and its value is very hard to measure to the naked eye, a lot is to do with talk and communication, where a young bloke will panic in a dire situation an ecperienced old head has been there before and can ease some nerves worrys from the young guys, its at training and the day to day everythings around the place...experience is everywhere and in everything - work school family and sport is no different
Experienced players arent infallible, everyone makes mistakes...and in a team like ours where we all know too well all our shortcomings mistakes are going to occur more than at a top club

Actually the only way a young gun can prove their quality is by being picked in the team in the first place, not being overlooked by someone who does far less but is older. Then taking that opportunity when given it.

The kids we have now are light years ahead of any other group of kids we've ever had. It would be criminal to hold them back simply so players like Lulia and Paterson can play a few more games.

We have about 10 experienced players to lead a group of exceptional young talents. Then there's a bunch of players with a few seasons under the belts who have shed the rookie tag and are ready to become full pros. We are perhaps one back rower (or a successful Lawrence transition) away from a very good side.

And the players who let the side down most last season were Lawrence, Anasta, Gavet and Blair. 3 of whom have left and have been replaced by more competent players.

GEO,Balmainboy,I simply said that the young players can learn from the experienced players in the side, regarding Anasta,Blair and Lulia,if you ask Brooks and Moses they both stated in WT interviews how good it was to have them in the side, they both said in their interviews….

"It's great to have these guys in the side,I have learned a lot from them and how to communicate better during the game",something Potter also stated on occasions...

it isn't about the quality per say of the senior players,it is about helping the young guys which is the crux of this discussion..
Anasta helped Brooks develop in the halves wether we like to admit it or not and he will be better of for it....

We have plenty of young talent and a few senior experienced pros. With Moses,Brooks and Tedesco attack will not be a problem, but defence is going to be a major problem and that is what will hurt us big time. I just think experience is a major factor in a sound structure and we are lacking in experience

The whole gist of the article suggests the young players need to become ''ready'' and ''capable'' in their development all at the same time, all to remedy a common external cause…fact is young players are ready when theyre individually ready not because they have to be.

The onus is on us because we have to," Sironen said.
