Sports psychology has always interested me, players focussing on their role and ignoring the scorebaord no matter how far behind right up to the 80th minute.

When my son was playing I was running water, u/15s know everything, theyd have a try scored against them and thered be 10 players in the ingoal telling others what they should be doing, and three kicking dirt, Id try and get them to understand if someones throwing shade at you, you wont perform well if youre upset, pat the bloke on the back that made an error and say forget it, dont worry bout it - focus...rather than blame and fingerpoint...that comes much later I suppose.
Sports psych might be better down the track something WTs relevant to kick off might be better

  • Reviving the Wests Tigers' Glory Days – Learning from past successes to build a brighter future.
Wouldnt last very long imo, be over in the blink of an eye

I think this is where it all starts;
  • Mastering the Ruck: How the Tigers Can Dominate the Middle – Breaking down ruck speed, play-the-ball strategies, and forward dominance.

Still a relevant topic that isn't something I have looked at in great depth. I have certainly been exposed to the leadership side of the house, which I expect has a fair amount of cross over. I suspect that is also forms a big part of the player welfare packages that are delivered. Definitely a subject worth digging into.

Well the introduction would be very short - maybe it should have read Glory Day 2 October 2005. 🤣
I expect the focus would be more on what got us there and then led to the decline there after. Definitely not something to be looked at early, if at all.

This could well be a good place to start. It is an area we are still stuggling with compared to other teams. Is this something you would be interested in pulling together or more something of interest?

Analysis into sombrero tactics and Creative payment Mechanisms outside the CAP, such as;
  • High paying Jobs for Family where they don't have to rock up,
  • Free use of New Cars
  • "Loans" for swimming Pools (Dragons)
  • Random Cash deposits (Wendel Sailor and the Bronocs) directly into Mortgage
  • Discounted apartments (Sharks and Titans)
  • % of ownership in Pubs (Dogs offer to Tino)
  • Medical retirement and subsequent imaginary coaching roles

Something of interest i guess...happy to join in the discussions my views in this area are fairly set but like to hear others ideas.
Not quite sure how to kick it off tho

If you're ever in Europe we can drink about 1000 0.5l Beers in a Kneipe and cover all of these in person.

However in the meantime I'm down for being typically weird and contrarian on;

Salary Cap Strategy.

The Role of Sports Science and Analytics in NRL

Creating a Five-Year Plan for the Wests Tigers.

Lessons from the Best NRL Clubs --

(Except I'd turn this into lessons from the worst NRL clubs. That is, how have poorly performing clubs accomplished transformational change. - Richo knows -thank god.)

I like logical fallacies, I like the weird and unexpected ways smaller teams become successful across any sport. (Brian Clough is a favourite, and also the story behind Moneyball / Sabermetrics)

I married a German Girl (she moved out here when she was two) and have been over with her a couple of times. May have to go back again - not sure how she will react to going back to talk about footy though. 🤣
Good meaty subjects; some I am sure will create "robust" discussion.

Sports Science and Analytics is one that reall interests me. I mean how manyu stats do you need to figure out how you are playing. I get it from a performance and medical side, but sometimes I wonder if there is too much. I mean I can tell without looking at any data that last night one team one side simply ran and tackled harder than the other and captilised on the errors they caused. I'm sure there is a bit more to it though!

To kick it off I think that we probably should have someone “host” the deep dive between a Monday and Thursday each week until we run out of topics or interest. I don’t think we should be too prescriptive in how it is run or what the subject matter is because there could be something pertinent come up from a game on the weekend that sparks interest.

Potentially we could create a list of potential subjects and have people jump in where their interest lies. The ones I threw up earlier were first thoughts and by no means an attempt to drive an agenda.

As for how, I think we could loosely follow the bouncing ball by having the host:
  • Clearly define the topic and its importance;
  • Provide a brief background or context;
  • State the main question(s) or theme(s) for discussion;
  • Share relevant articles, videos, stats or own thoughts to start the discussion;
  • Encourage community participation and provide feedback as required (if they have the expertise); and
  • Wrap it all up on Thursday before the footy kicks off.
Once we have a handle on the process, and if we feel it is worthwhile we could invite an external Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide guest insights. Maybe a coach, former player or analyst to participate and/or potentially run a live Q&A session. There are a few members who seem to have contacts in the club – it would be great to get their insights even if they are only known as guest X.

Robust discussion should be highly encouraged; it’s great to have different opinions!

Thoughts?

Would be interested in people’s thoughts on the salary cap division
Whether you divide on position or player ability.
And then do you have a value for the spine, props, second rowers and outside backs in groups and how you would group them

I’ll start with the spine and imo that should determine their value and should be rated against each other.
I’d expect the likes of Melbourne spine to be pretty evenly paid compared to most teams
My guess accumulate should be about 3 - 3.2mill for your starting spine

For us assuming no third party
Luai 1.2
Bula 700k
API 700k unders imo
5/8 assuming should be 5-600k

I also think every club can carry 1 bad contract of 600k as imo all clubs Should also be 300k under the cap to allow breathing space for upgrades and alike

I’m terribly slow at typing so am stopping atm

Far more interesting than arguing over how much we should pay Galvin or deciphering that BS from the BS in the rumours thread.
I’m in.
Yes. Splendid point. However a man needs hope. A proxy life or personality. To escape the drudgery of everyday reality. Where the world is beautiful and perfect. BS sounds to be a happy place for the majority - and I dont think its going away soon. Its a warm fuzzy place.

I mean. I mean who wouldn't like Pain Hass in their front row. I believe there is more innuendo in the rumours thread regarding his movements or it could just be rancid journalism. Either way. Man needs hope. Otherwise the soul will decay. This is also a result of many years of failure on the field and therefore natural to look for a super hero to save us. From the depths of our despairs. For if our team wins - life is beautiful. If our team loses - then back down to the basement of the mind. There is nothing else. This is who we have become.

Im not implying its a sorrow state of affairs. And its not just us - its everyone - I mean if you look at all scriptures across all religions amongst all the countries of the world - they too are waiting for something or someone to save them. The good news is that we are not alone.

Okay. Where was I going with this? Oh yeh - sign Pain Hass and Galvin in a package deal. Damn mam! Get it done. In this thread only. Deep diving.

Sports psych has been big this weekend. Inclement weather brings the good teams back to the pack and it often comes down to which team is more desperate (motivated mentally). Parra are at pretty juicy odds today.
