Wests Tigers forwards - Can they shake the pussy cat tag?

I am pretty sure one of the first things Potter said when asked what he would like to change about our team was something along the lines of "the forwards could have played with more vigour this season" or something to that effect. So he is obviously looking to change that so that's a good start. Then he can address our attitude, defence, last-tackle options, kicking game, support play, offloads, completion rate…......................................good luck with all of that Mick, I will leave it with ya

I am not a PC person. I dont give 2 hoots about the huge amount of charity work this club does. I dont smile when the papers report the Tigers have visited a cancer riddled child mid week, promise him/her a victory and then proceed to be pantsed on the weekend. I dont care that we are perceived to be a "good guys club".

I am not the type of bloke who gloats over good news stories or always does what is socially acceptable. I have many enemies. The reason i am this way is because I do not suffer fools and more importantly **POST EDITED BY ADMIN**. I along with the majority on here riled up against Matty Johns's assessmnent that our forward pack was soft at this years start. I did not want to believe it and I had a personal vendetta against the complainant.

Truth be told, the Wests Tigers have always been creampuffs….creampuffs that is with a hell of a lot of talent. There is not one forward in this squad that would scare me to go one-on-one with...nor has here ever been....they are not that type of bloke. They are tireless workers and that is highly commendable but they have never possessed a mongrel who scares the opposition. As an opposition forward, there has never been a Tigers forward who I wouldnt be scared to run at. They just tackle you...they dont smash your nose and lie on top of you telling you how sweet your daughter is...they dont pack into a scrum and tell you that on your next run your neck will be broken, then tell you how sweet your daughter is....for gods sakes, you would be unlucky if 2 or more of them met you at the advantage line. All you have to do is take the tackle, quickly play the ball and get ready for your next asault. It isnt a hard gig.

By all reports Potter is a defence orientated coach. I really hope this is so because in this day and age you need a tough forward pack....one who is prepared to hurt the opposition. One who is prepared to make the opposites know they will be in a war. My major criticism of the pack has been, for a few years now, Keith. He is big, he is strong and he is soft. No one is scared of him, no one thinks twice about running straight at him. He just does the bare minimum and that is all...and he is not on his Pat Malone. Is anyone scared of being tackled by Liam? By Robbie? by Blair? Take the Roosters forwards for example. They are usually behind us on the table but relish the games against us. I can not think of the last game that we bested them in the forwards. They always bash us. Sometimes our blokes really aim up (think the Broncs and St George this year) but on the whole we are soft in the forwards. I am not asking for a pack of Les Boyds...but am asking for a pack that will hit their opposites every time they have the balls to run straight.

We have a talented side, we also have a collection of media darlings who will attend to a charity at the drop of the hat. How about in season 2013 we have a pack of blokes who are hated in RL circles due to their aggression, their lack of empathy and their mongrel attitude? A pack who arent considered "good blokes"? A pack who will risk it all to get on top?

Maybe then Benji and Robbie will have the space to create our attack......

Not caring about the community work isnt un-PC its selfish and nasty. Did you ever stop to think about the people the club is helping ?

As for playing nasty, why don't you support another club ?

Tigerbill i agree with you , Regardless if Tigerbill has read it all or not your comments are a disgrace . I work in a hospital and have worked in Oncology witnessing kids of all ages die over the years , sport means nothing next to the value of a human life .
Yeah very tough man Styker get a life and go and support someone else :crazy

Listen mate, I may not have worded that original post perfectly but the sentiment remains. The perception in the RL world is that we are the mother teresas of the comp and it is absolute bollocks. We do a huge amount, as do all the other clubs. Why are we percieved to be the champions of charity? It seems almost like gloating. Kerry Packer gave millions upon millions to charity and very few people were aware of this until after his death. Our blokes visit a sick kid and make the news. On that same day other clubs have done likewise and get no mention. I believe it is a pre determined directive from our club to market themselves in this way. I DO NOT want us to stop the work. I love the idea of charity and personally give very generously every year to my 3 charities that I respect. This was not intended to be a charity bashing thread. I just dont see the need for it to always be reported.

What I would like is for the club to toughen up and start promoting themselves as a strong and capable football team. Unfortunately, our personna is a weak one (albeit with some exceptional attacking players). Opposition sides see us as a soft touch and treat us as such. I believe this has happened because we are percieved as very community minded and not as a top 4 side who is hard as hell to beat. We cop far too many floggings - even with our top side on the field. Our forwards are talented and mobile….but they are soft. They are not hardarses. Our backs are similar. They do not command respect.

My post was more directed at the numerous articles printed every week before a game where all the talk is about "doing it for little johnny". If that is what the players talk about before the game to the media then I am afraid, they dont have their minds on the job. Go out there, get into a war with Manly or the Dogs, win a hard physical game and then do your shout out. That is what all the top teams do. Stop big noting yourselves in the press every week...shut your mouths, train hard, prepare well and get the bloody job done.

All the bad things that players do are reported endlessly, so why shouldn't the good stuff?

I highly doubt teams facing us on the weekend think that we are going to be a soft game for them because of the fact that we have visited kids in hospital during the week. We still did the same community work when we ourselves were a "top 4 side who was hard to beat".

I agree that the players need to shut their bloody mouths when it comes to empty promises in regards to their upcoming performances to the scavenging media but I am proud of what we do charity-wise as a club

Stryker , i would of agreed 110% word for word with your original post to begin with , only if you would of left the charity bit out all together .
My profession being a Registered Nurse in intensive care and Oncology is not only looking after the patients , but to console families when they lose a loved one, you can't begin to imagine how hard it is until you have walked my shoes.
Having a young family myself to see young kids losing there battles to Cancer is devastating, so the subject of Charity does not need to be brought up in my opinion .
I personally love to hear the good work our players are doing with charities etc. but football wise wouldn't argue one bit what you have posted . You do know your Footy and Wests Tigers in those side of things , just a bit more respect .
