Wests Tigers future has been assured - regardless of who controls the joint venture club.

Tigers officials have called for ARL Commission boss John Grant and NRL CEO Dave Smith and to advise them on the club's structure after the issue was raised at a recent meeting about developing a training centre at Campbelltown.

With the resignation of chief executive Stephen Humphreys on Saturday adding to rumours of in-fighting between the rival Western Suburbs and Balmain factions over control of the club, it is thought the ARLC may prefer an independent board ran the Tigers.

But even if Wests were to gain a greater representation on the board due to their stronger financial position, Fairfax Media has been told Magpies officials have agreed the nickname of the NRL franchise will remain as the Tigers.

While both clubs were founded in 1908, Wests Tigers chairman Mike Bailey said there were some fans who have only ever supported the joint venture.

''We have always been careful on both sides to ensure that we retain that contact with our grassroots clubs but at the same time we know that time is marching on and that there is a lot of allegiance these days to Wests Tigers and not the foundation clubs,'' he said. ''It is a matter of trying to look after all of the various interests that we have and I think we have done a pretty reasonable job on that front for what is now 14 seasons.

''We will continue to have respect for that but at the same time if we need to make changes it is up to us as a board to consider that.''

Bailey said the Tigers hoped to meet further with Smith and Grant in coming weeks to discuss a variety of matters, including the structure of the joint venture.

''We went to see them a couple of weeks ago about a number of issues and a lot of those issues related to the south-west of Sydney,'' he said. ''We have a lot of talent coming through from our Wests Magpies to Wests Tigers ranks in that area and we want to make sure they have a real place to go - perhaps a training facility.

''Of course, they raised some points about structure and we are interested in finding out which way they would like to see the venture go … I think it is important that we sit down and listen to what they have to say and then make our decision as a board as to which way we want to go.''

Former Wests Tigers CEO Steve Noyce, who is now at Cronulla, proposed a training facility at Campbelltown when he was in charge and Bailey confirmed that was now a major aim of the club.

My question is - how will it make us competitive on the field.

A valid question.

Also a valid question is to ask why has it taken until the fan base starts to ask questions about the board before this has happened?

The answer is these people care more about their own position then they do about our club and for that they should all go whether they have been there 10 years or 10 minutes, enough is enough

First things first, in 24 hours it went from "review of corporate structure" to having the Wests Group confirm the entity of Wests Tigers would remain intact.

There does appear to be a seismic shift occurring with the direction of the club.

Does Bailey just not get it :brick:

The only concern the Wests Tigers board should have is the Wests Tigers

How bloody hard is it

Forget Wests and Balmain FFS and the fossils still attached to them and concentrate on the future , because the past is not going to save our arse

They are imbeciles no doubt about it , they say they want to the NRl to step in and give them guidance one day and the next day they are worrying about "all the different parties involved :brick: "

The NRL needs to step in asap and completely restructure our clubs entire board and management structure ,I feel if they don't our club could be in for many grim years on and off field otherwise

I was really disappointed with the interview with MIke Bailey on the radio this morning.
Loads of talk of us and them and other side and alike, whether it is a symptom or a cause of the infighting is unknown to me, but I was disappointed none the less.
Does anyone else think it is ridiculous that we swap chairman every 2 years with one from each side of the venture (the reason why is obvious), just think it promotes a divided front…..
anyway my thoughts

They are all utterly pathetic.

They love their free corporate tickets and poncing around but doing sfa for Wests Tigers

A marriage means sharing assets for the common good, not getting home from doing the shopping and bickering over who pays for the Tim Tams, who pays for the beer, and whose refrigerator to put them in. If the happy couple need to see the NRL marriage counselor to sort out their differences then so be it, but it's really quite simple - one club, one clubhouse, one objective, one direction, and a future not a past. Put someone in charge who can make this happen, and get rid of anyone standing in the way.

Unfortunately we have 3 grounds ,two dressing rooms , 2 boards who attempt to pose as one and have a thousand agendas , and lots of unhappy players and fans .

We need Dr Phil ,Maury Povich ,The Doctors and Oprah because half of our club are drama queens to boot

actually 3 boards, the Wests board has 2 sides it self with Ashfield and campbelltown as well…

Does this not kinda seem like what happened to Bears/Steelers?

Guess the advantage is were 14 years in now. Either way lets just hope they sort it out soon and get over there small magpie syndrome.

I think it is a little more complicated than that. You have three factors driving the disagreement:

Identity crisis
Financial sustainability and equity
Strategic direction

Hence they have gone to the ARLC to firstly identify the points of disagreement and ensure whatever solution is pursued actually integrates with the strategic direction of the overall game.

There are a lot of posts saying they are old fossils with personal gain at the forefront of their decision making, but I have to say, going to the ARLC has to be one of the smartest moves we could make.

Whatever the outcome some people will still not be happy even if the changes are in the best interest of the Wests Tigers moving forward.

Both sides of the board may or may not have separate agenda's but so do many 'so called' fans.

You're a wordsmith. I couldn't have put it any better myself.

WHAT A PACK OF CLOWNS!

Many years ago I was a Balmain Tigers supporter. I moved to the NT and lived in a remote community with no TV. Then we got two channels and guess what? AFL only. I finally moved to a place where I could see and support the….what's this? Wests Tigers? And felt bl##dy lucky to do so.

Get over your petty squabbles or lose what you profess to support.
