Wests Tigers have an identity crisis

Lets turn this into something productive and create a list of realistic things that the club could do in order to better connect with both heartlands.

We have a few fan days a year, various player appearances at gearzone and where ever else, the school blitz in both areas.

I'd like to see a few members meetings a year, meetings that are on at a reasonable time and for the general fan (not some expensive dinner with $2000 tables):
*one at the start of the season where the fans can ask questions of sheens, farah and some other senior players about how preseason went and how they expect we will go in the year, what youngsters we might see etc
*another towards the end of the season where members are asked and allowed to introduce ideas for jersey designs and other merchandise, then allow all members to vote online for the final design for next season/period of wear.

what else we got?
We can't over work the players and staff when they have training to do and need holidays at the end of season, not to mention travel for away games and what ever else, but their time used to connect with fans can be used more effectively.

I don't agree Wests Tigers have an identity crisis. You can't be one of the most popular clubs in the league and have an identity crisis … Doesn't make sense.

Sure the club could be doing things to improve. I always believe in encouraging youth as they are the future of the game particularly as the MacArthur region is a youngish area.

Correct. The article was a beat-up.

I dont think its a beat up at all. What have Wests Tigers EVER done in Liverpool? It is our area abd is the size of Ashfield, Balmain and Leichhardt combined but have Wests Tigers ever done anything there ??

No.

I'm a younger fan, so my memory is predominently West Tigers from 2003 onwards, and I've experienced our home games at the 4 grounds (LO, CS, SFS, ANZ)

I feel the most "community" at CO. That radio station C105FM (??) gets alot of promo at the game and it's something I don't feel at LO, even though I technically live in that area (Ryde). They've had singers and dancers from the local community do halftime entertainment, there are local business promotions in the ground, even a Wests Magpies merchandise van.

NONE of this happens at LO. I'm not saying one is better than the other, its just interesting that there is all this initiative in Campbelltown from the Tigers who don't "engage" with fans in that area.

ly.

While this sounds like a good idea especially while the side is going well it would turn into a $@&! fight. I am a member of Balmain Football club and have been to their AGM where Humphreys has addressed the meeting on behalf of Wests Tigers and taken questions from the members. Even this has had the potential to degenerate. Remember what the board at parramatta did to their players earlier this year. Can't do it to our current or future players.

Relax….If I was referring to your comment, I wouldve quoted it.

I'm talking more 'media' & events...
Benny & farah & his jersey in origin
The 88 boys at LO
Sirro calling for his kid to staay in firsts
Junior & mitchell and a rumoured deal with WTs
Former balmain great ellery (never heard it mentioned he played for wests too.)
Wests Tigers Gala dinner in RYDE

I would ask that all users please refrain from using disguised or abbreviated swearing from now on. This is something the moderators have been quite lenient with of late, but that's going to change. Swearing, abbreviated or disguised is against forum rules, so please keep it clean when posting.

Maybe it is a perception thing but I have never really perceived Liverpool as "our area" For as long as I can remember areas like Moorebank have been very much Bulldogs territory

The sooner everyone moves on from Balmain or Western Suburbs the better Wests Tigers will be .

All the rest is history

i live in this area and i know for sure that (stereotyping but true) it's only arab community who follow the bulldogs in this area.

most non arab people WANT something to belong to down here. i know so many of my friends who go for newcastle, canberra, broncos, cowboys etc. coz they can't stand bulldogs, eels, panthers etc. there are many many RL fans in this area, and as i pointed out earlier liverpool is not that close to campbelltown, almost the middle of cambo and balmain.

there is a great potential here in livo. the article talks about the development of the M5, camden valley way area, and i agree with the douchebag, the area is there for the taking. glenfield has recently gone through a hell lot of housing. the whole prestons, casula, glenfield, ingleburn, macquarie fields, livo ALL THE WAY to cabbra (then there is some parra territory) is there for the taking.

lawrence (leumeah), skando (minto)… these are the people wt can use to promote the club. also, michael clarke is from lurnea iirc.. not saying we can use him, but at least that can help us to some extent.

Mate, i don't know how long it takes you to get from Livo to C-twon but it takes me 20 mins if that. It would take at least half hr to get from Livo to Leichardt. I don't see Livo as being anywhere near the halfway point

as i said ALMOST. and if u read my previous posts, i mentioned that the EXACT middle would be somewhere near bankswtown.. taken by bulldogs.

i know there is LCC (liverpool catholic club) near hoxton park who would love to have something to do with the tigers. it's a great place too may i add.

Altho I agree we can always do more, I feel the article is a beat up.

BTW anyone who thinks the inner west dying is taking the P1ss, houses are going thru the roof, $1 mil to buy a house at concord, alot of thriving business, I live on the back of breakfast point, anyone who thinks that area is anything but thriving is kidding themselves.

The Macarthur is growing also, a different demographic a lot more families and potential players, but this is not the be all and end all, I think having the 2 areas is a distinct advantage. A business/corporate heavy area like the inner west is nicely complimented by the population heavy South west (of course there is business and corporate there as well)

I think anything but the current 4 games everywhere split would be a mistake

Its not really a topic about moving on - its about where and who the WT represent TODAY

Nothing to do with 'moving on from balmain or the magpies'

Yeah I agree. To suggest the inner west is a dead end isn't really borne out by the attendance figures nor the performance of its junior teams. I'm all for doing more to develop our strength out in the south west but moving everything out there wholesale is not the answer. Personally I don't give a rats where the NYC team trains so long as wherever it is is the best outcome for the WT.
