WESTS Tigers have declined to offer Benji Marshall an extension as part of the star playmaker's new contract package, but are in negotiations to secure their two most promising young halves to long-term deals.
The Marshall imbroglio came to a head just after 6pm last night, when acting Tigers boss Grant Mayer sent the player's agent, Martin Tauber, terms of the contractual upgrade that was verbally promised almost three years ago. The news is just one of a number of significant developments at Concord, which include: * REVELATIONS that Tauber has tested interest in Marshall with rival NRL outfits Canterbury and New Zealand, as well as Super 15 franchise NSW;
* MOVES from the Tigers to sign boom teenage halves Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses until the end of 2017\. Both are already contracted for next year;
* THE club receiving an offer to settle with sacked coach Tim Sheens, who has remained on the monthly payroll since his departure last September;
* ENGAGING the recruitment company the Bulldogs used to appoint a new CEO in the wake of Steve Humphreys' exit last Friday;
* THE formation of a new retention and recruitment committee, with veteran talent spotter Warren McDonnell demoted to dealing with players outside the Top 25 following a series of debatable decisions in recent years; and
* REVELATIONS they are still carrying ex-players Andrew Fifita, Bryce Gibbs, Todd Payten, Chris Heighington and Wade McKinnon on their 2013 salary cap. Marshall's future, however, is the most pressing item of business at the club. When he re-committed for a further five years in 2010, Humphreys gave a verbal promise to renegotiate the contract in tandem with the NRL's new broadcast deal. Tauber also indicated that he anticipated an extension until the end of 2017\. But the terms forwarded to him yesterday did not feature an extension, only more money between now and 2015\. It's understood Marshall's base salary - believed to be around $500,000 a season - will increase slightly this year, before enjoying more substantial rises in 2014 and 2015\. If the 28-year-old is not satisfied there's every chance he could ask for a release - and the mood among some Tigers officials indicates he would be granted one. Marshall had a falling out with coach Mick Potter upon being axed to the bench in round 10, and has not achieved the same "father-son" relationship he previously enjoyed with Sheens. Marshall yesterday reaffirmed his desire to remain a one-club player, but shed no light on his feelings over the contractual negotiations.
The Daily Telegraph can also reveal that the Tigers are yet to pay Sheens this month, with recent legal negotiations suggesting a settlement could be reached soon. A board meeting next week will digest an offer put forward to the club by Sheens' solicitors.
On the plus side, Mayer confirmed negotiations to secure Brooks and Moses on new three-year deals had begun. "We see them as great young talents and they are both priority signings for us," he said. Both teenagers are managed by Isaac Moses, who also handles out-of-sorts forward Adam Blair. The Tigers have indicated they would be willing to contribute around $100,000 to Blair's contract at a rival club, should he attract an offer from elsewhere.

Wade as well? really? that is just pathetic, poor management.

Going by how he's reacted to criticism and the need for leadership in the past … I reckon we'll see 3 missed tackles, 2 passes to row 10 and 1 penalty kick not make touch.

This one paragraph just show us how mis-managed WT have been over the past 4-5 years. To end up in this situation is appalling, and we are paying dearly for it now.

From what I can see most people will agree that Wayne Bennett is a useless coach and has no idea about the NRL and winning the GF. I hope that the Wests Tigers management do not read posts on here and keep away. I have been to many pubs and in each of them there is a sign…."free beer tomorrow." A few few on here, then some, must be turning up waiting for that free beer. Tomorrow never comes. Its this year that counts. Am sick of the negative energy..negative posts by sad people...you know who you are...a response to this of criticism will be confirmation of such. I suggest an exercise....read through the posts...and see how many negative posts there are on here. Am sick of hearing about we are building for the future. Thats a given every club is....what counts is this year. Stop the criticism of the club, management and players. Support the club, support this web site. Is is actually great and I seem to keep coming back, as there is some good shit on here. Just some period and posts..is just so negative and sad for those who actually post... I just tune out. Yes the obvious, so no further response required. Well not by an intelligent being. Lets make the big calls now....we need a clean out. If we can afford it. Its the balance sheet that will dictate and whats available in the market place. And yes there have been some stupid decisions in hindsight. So has many clubs. Benji is a freak. That is a fact. Whether you agree or not. He is not the problem as Wests Tigers. Is you think so, then you have no idea. But then again neither do I. In 2005, after the first few games I predicted the wooden spoon. In hindsight now I had NFI. Dont think anyone on hear saw 2005 coming. Those that did...well well done. Those..well lets just say.....will not be on this web-site, and are multi-millionaires, may not even be in the coiuntry at this moment. To those well...all I can say is enjoy!! I am proud of the win by the boys. On paper we had no chance...How many on the on here put their house on the Tigers winning tonite? I bet not one! I bet that in the next week however, there will be a lot more negative posts than positive ones..thats a given. Moral of the story is...let enjoy the win. Lets enjoy the next one even more...and lets be gracious in defeat. Lets support our team...not just on line..but out at the grounds. Actions speak louder than words. But on hear by many is just words!!

Based on the ex-players they are carrying Wests Tigers should branch out into the superannuation business. I am sure that the recipients would recommend them to their mates.
