Wests Tigers Home Ground Mega Thread

Having been to magic round multiple times, nothing in Sydney could come close.

What venue would you play it at?

Suncorp is home ground to 2 NRL and a SOO team. It has a QLD league star walk, legend statues out the front & location is a key point.

The stadium needs to have good accommodation & food choices also.
You'd have it at Allianz. Ticks all those boxes, would be a lot more fun in Sydney. More fans from all clubs could attend

I assume they are going to go ahead with a design similar to this - surely they can make the seats gold though.
Hopefully they come up with a better plan than that. That stand will do little. Join those two stands like the new grandstand at Brookie, and you get a lot more corporates and undercover seats, f+b outlets etc

With respect, this is your subjective opinion. I don't doubt it's a good event. That's not my argument. You will get crowds in Sydney too...isn't that what it's about? With crowds comes entertainment options. Homebush holds a massive Easter show each year...everything is pop up tents, bars, rides etc. It would be a different experience, but you'd still get crowds and a good time. People are talking like nobody would come if it was held in Sydney...it's just not an argument that holds water.
Sun corps a great ground... Accor is a shit hole

Even with an average of 50k each day this year with plenty of empty seats visible Suncorps way better atmosphere with the Caxton and other resto etc
Brisbane has the weather too generlley it looked quite mild there this weekend no coats or heavy jackets while SYD was freezing about 12'
Its a no brainer and it ain't broke so don't need fixing

‘Not heard from the NRL’: Tigers won’t commit to Leichhardt amid doubts over $50m in funding

The Wests Tigers have refused to commit their future to Leichhardt Oval despite reports of a $50 million in government funding to redevelop the dated stadium and facilities.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the Tigers will hold a board meeting on Monday to discuss its future stadium strategy and would not to commit to playing any games at Leichhardt.

Tigers CEO Shane Richardson was only made aware of a $20 million pledge from the federal government when contacted by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese last week.

“We have received no official notification of guaranteed funds for Leichhardt Oval,” Richardson told the Herald.

“Last Thursday night I had a phone call with Anthony Albanese, who promised $20 million towards Leichhardt Oval and [asked] me to keep it to myself, which I have.

“However since then, I have not heard from the NRL, any other body, including the Inner West Council, about any moneys. It’s interesting that The Daily Telegraph release it before we’re told.”

Sources told the Herald that the current investment pledge is $40 million, with Inner West Council and the NSW state government indicating they would each invest $10 million on top of the $20 million from federal government.
The NRL requested $30 million from the federal government, but Albanese is only willing to put up $20 million and wants the state government to match that investment.

The funding was hidden in last week’s budget announcement.

“If this funding is available it will be taken into consideration with our stadium plan, which we are meeting tomorrow morning in Brisbane to discuss at our regular board meeting,” Richardson said.

“I can assure you, the first people who will know about our stadium decision will be our members, and until then we will make no further comment regarding the stadium.”

The Tigers are hoping to announce their stadium policy for the next three years in mid-June.

However, the club is unlikely to commit to playing games at Leichhardt before being provided with a breakdown of where the funds will be used and how it will benefit the game day experience for the fans.
The Tigers want a new grandstand at the northern end of the ground with sufficient corporate facilities, four dressing rooms to accommodate NRL and NRLW teams.

They also want a significant improvement to amenities and hospitality in a bid to increase the ground’s capacity to 19,000.

At this stage the Tigers are set to take the majority of their games to CommBank Stadium in Parramatta from next season.

if LO does get an upgrade and Richo refuses to take any games there, then he should expect a reduction in membership.
An upgrade has probably thrown a spanner in the works with the stadium deal, it was an easy decision without funding

LO will get at least 1 game if the upgrades are happening, Campbelltown probably gets only 1 as well. Whichever bigger stadium we play at I reckon gets 10 home games.

TBH i don't want this 4x4x4 crap. Thats just back where we were previously. A great majority of our home games need to be played a one venue in my opinion.
That’s most likely why I think LO and CSS will only have 1 game a year moving forwards. 10 of them will be played in a bigger stadium.

You'll be happy. Next 3 years there anyway. You obviously feel strong about the topic.

No stronger or otherwise about any other topic I think
I just reckon it's the right way to go

As for LO, $50m yesterday.... $40m today it's really looking like our in the sky stuff... Tomorrow we'll be at $30m?

I think we're ne not hearing the whole story.... Richo won't commit but expects millions for a Reno... Don't add up although it's a huge community asset. & used by many others
Stadium plan in July will be interesting

The original article suggest it was Vlandy's who has been lobbying the government for the upgrades, not Richo.

Personally, I believe Richo knows LO won't get the funds it really needs which justifies us moving to a big stadium or SWS permanently without getting hate because at least they 'tried'.

IMO If it does get upgraded with increased commercial areas, we should play all our home games there until they build a better facility in SWS which seem like it won't happen for 10+ years but at least there will be plans to move.

The costs associated with the upgrade (per Inner West Council) above can be summarised as follows:
  • Concept A -Museum Inner West League $1.25 Mil
  • Concept B -New Northern Grandstand $21.0 Mil
  • Concept C -Upgrade Lower Seating $4.9 Mil
  • Concept D -2 Level car park (100 Vehicles) $12.3 Mil
  • Concept E -General Improvements $4.99 Mil
  • Concept F -Upgraded Western Grandstand (Moderate option) $33.4 Mil
  • Concept G -Upgraded Western Grandstand (Major option) $98.3 Mil
So then if we implement Concepts B, C, E & F (no museum, no car park and Moderate Western Option) that amounts to $64.29 Million. That still leaves us short around $25 Mil to what I would perceive to be the minimum requirement.
Would love to see this happen but pursuing this also needs to fit in with our medium to long term plans, surely at 20K capacity we would still only use this venue for fixtures mainly against out of town sides?

I somehow doubt Richo wants to decrease memberships, which would be guaranteed of we moved to Parramatta and neglected our home regions.
