Wests Tigers keen to take Matt Moylan off Cronulla’s books

As Hap said - Moylan is not a FB, I'll add a below average centre, hopeless DH and so that leaves 5/8. We have a good one for 2020 in the Kiwi captain and there is an opening for 2021. We do not need him for next year.

I would like to think that we can get a better 5/8 for 2021 than this little wimp. Brimson is a possibility - anyone else we should be looking at peeps.

Andre Niko from the Raiders

Moylan is a very talented player, but as stated here his rocks outweigh his diamonds by about 3:1. After 7 years of first grade he still has issues under the high ball which is concerning. He still has brilliance with his ball playing, such as last year when he had 5 or 6 try assists in a single game, but those performances have been growing further apart.

Just for once, it would be brilliant if we are the team that brings in a talented player to find his potential...

Umm Matterson, Taupau, Austin, Thompson, Momo. How many examples do you need?

True with those examples all players that were looking to improve.
I should have said 'fallen star to regain his potential' which is what I was getting at.

Absolutely agree, Barra, great post. Need to foster the fight environment for it which in fairness we have not ever done as a JV! No wonder players don’t give us the chance to put them back on the map lately...

Like pretty much every signing, it's literally impossible to tell unless we know the financials. If we get him for cheap I'd be excited about the possibility of him reviving what was once an extremely promising career. If we're on the hook for the contract the Sharks presumably gave him we're being played for suckers. Since none of us knows there's no reasonable conclusion to draw but "maybe".

Some on here have serious foot-in-mouth😂

@Tigerboy we don't need a back to replace matterson, we need another big backrower, we don't have enough strike power in the forwards without letting him leave and we pick up another back.

Totally agree also, BP! Just talking strictly in reference to the financials of any trade coming up will have to *clearly* benefit us or as you say even a good player swap does not do the team justice for losing a strike Ball-playing lock (what we wouldn’t do to have Marty back)?

Most players form ebbs and flows bar a few from the top level clubs... Also players can have bad runs with injuries and then go on for seasons problem free... At his best he's dynamic, we really aren't in a position to be too selective

I'm a bit each way on this one, at his best he's better than what we have at fullback, we just don't know which Moylan we will get....if we're getting him cheap and only give him a 2year deal and let him earn an extension.....no more of Ivan's 4 year lotto wins

I don’t like this signing at all. Players at 27 are who they are. He’s had Griffin, Flanagan as coaches who are good and played at good clubs Panthers and Sharks. Injury history, rumoured poor trainer and loves to party. He’s a light framed ball playing fullback who reads the game as good as anyone. Highly skilled player just a huge risk we shouldn’t take.

Today's Moylan is similar to Mbaye, why do we need 2 of them?
Our biggest weaknesses are, in the order of importance, and where we shall spend money:
1 props,
2 2nd row
3 right-centre

We shall get 2 strong props e.g.Taukeiaho, A Paasi, Papalii

1-2 2nd rowers e.g. Taumalolo, Kikau, D Fafita, N Brown

right centre e.g. Lomax

Poor attitude, injury prone and overrated. No thanks. I’d rather an AJ Brimson and a Zac Lomax for the money he’s on.

If we sign him, you would think it rules out a play at Brimson. I know who i’d rather.

We.need to be realistic about our club and it's brand in the market at the moment.

Don't need to take a big risk and sign another Ballin, McQueen or Matulino either.

If we let Matterson go we need another really good forward - don't think Moylan would make a good lock, in fact I don't think he would make a good anything.
