Wests Tigers NSW Cup Structure

Hey fellas, just a second.

Sure, I hear loud and clear about the beauty and spirituality of Leichhardt in the context of what's being said.

But.

Before Leichhardt, there was Birchgrove which, in its day, was the original home ground etc.
So ALL ovals have their place in the evolution and traditions etc.

Then, concerning another club, Orana Park became Campbelltown Stadium to accommodate the Magpies when that club re-located in the 80s.
Still, that oval had its own past, its own tradition from years before, where it was "the" ground for its players and fans going back in time.
And that heritage lives now into 2012.

So I reckon that there needs to be respect for all grounds and for their players and fans, in all eras.

(And I know there was no disrespect in what was said in this thread - it's just that everyone feels "attached" to their ground, as they should.)

Hmmm interesting thread
I was originally balmain supporter , grew up in balmain junior league area, didn't really think much of wets in the early days of joint venture until 2005 after we won the comp and ever since then i love the magpies and I love balmain but most of all I love the wests tigers , call em wests , call the tigers , call them magpies , call them balmain I don't care what anyone calls them , I love em all just the same .
The old days as good as they were ate gone now it is wests tigers , I only wish they wouldn't play at sfs instead half games at cambeltown and half at leichardt , but they have to play at sfs for financial reasons I guess

Time to close the thread Why does every thread come back to Wests and Balmain or who's got the best home ground Bloody sick of it

Why is everyone so afraid to talk about wests & balmain? mentioning balmain and wests seems be a crime around here! People seem to always think discussion about nsw cup is a wests vs balmain thing. Anything balmain related is wt related and anything magpies related is wt related. Yes some people think they are clubs of the past but clearly they influence wt directly and indirectly.. Does the direction of wests ashfield affect wt? Yes! Does BRET performance affect WT fringe players? yes! Does the management of campbelltown junior league affect wt? - yes! WT is a Joint venture made up of two foundation clubs providing a great successful nrl team… Take off your 'its all about the first grade side' glasses and think about what WT is made up of... $$$, juniors, corporate support, board meetings, relationship with nsw cup team, campbelltown juniors, balmain juniors, lack of balmain leagues club etc etc. we are WT!!! The W brings something to the table and so does the T for the success and great following we are ALL part of in some way.

I think the main reason there is very few people kicking up a stink about Balmain not being in the NSW Cup is because most have little or no interest in it. I prob go to 1 or 2 games of NSW cup a year and prob go to more than almost anyone.
As a Balmain fan, my club and history lives through the West Tigers, there is plenty of Balmain in there for me. My good mate is a West fan, he sees it exactly the same, he always calls them Wests, I was call them the Tigers, we are both happy. He compares current players to Les Boyd and John Dorahy, I compare them to Wayne Pearce, Roach and Gary Jack.

Whether there is a team running around in a comp I dont care about is irrelevant to me, the West Tigers for me is a continuation of the Tigers for me, and Wests for the old Maggies fans.

I think its just that they dont have an online forum.

Theres probably a similar amount of diehards at magpies games & BRET games….magpies have an online voice = you hear it more.
I know there'd be some Balmain fans as peed off at this as the Magpies fans we see/read online

Christ this is really getting contagious here….dont like something and it "close it close oh god pleeeaaase close it"!!

Dont click on it if ur sick of it

Facts for NSW cup 2012: WT will be fed by BRET and magpies will be a stand alone team. Wests & Balmain may compete against each other on the field for NSW cup but apart from that they are brother clubs. All part of the success of WT. magpie diehards are vocal for various reasons (which i dont need to repost as they have been outlined millions of times) so there is a tendancy for people to get 'sick' of hearing about a perceived wests vs balmain thing. As a diehard myself i have no problem at all with balmain or anyone aligned to balmain over wests. Forums are about debate and discusion relating to all things WT… Lets keep things in perspective to other clubs. WT is unique as we are made up from two clubs. Use cronulla for example.. Did cronulla fans get upset and vocal about merging with storm in nsw cup? Or what about souths linking up with a completely different club in norths? The two team nsw cup formula didnt hinder wt winning a premiership in 2005 and was great to see both balmain and wests logos on the premiership shirts. Lets do it again for 2012\. WTFL

Like it or not Happy there will always be emotion's coming to the surface from both sides in these kinds of threads

Well considering the OP was asking about the structure of the NSW Cup, let's just try and discuss that. There are numerous members on here who attend NSW Cup matches and know the system so surely there's some decent input to be had here.

Exactly. Especially when there are multiple threads covering this. The thread is supposedly about our NSW Cup team…

Brilliant … I think the guts of this post needs be etched into stone and held aloft as the Wests Tigers constitution.

We are what we are people.

We are a JOINT VENTURE.

With that brings two geographic areas, two former clubs, 2 lots of politics, 2 lots of opinions. As much as people want to try and ignore it… this is what we are, and we must all strive to ensure everyone is given a fair go.

By doing so both partners are happy, and the end result is a unified Wests Tigers.

Leichhardt has far more traditional history than any other ground Gary!!

When we play at Pratten Park we can start talking about alternative "spiritual grounds" - but Cambo is less than 20 years old and deserves no such recognition!!!!

That was not my point. Leichhardt is a great traditional ground, but it is NOT the spiritual home of the Wests Tigers. After 12 years, sorry to say, but we don't yet have a "spiritual" home. Therefore, when media outlets state that Leichhardt is the "spiritual home of the Tigers," they should be reminded that this is incorrect.

Well said. And they should also be reminded that they are the Weststigers, not Wests or the Tigers.

I still don't get why Balmain people are so eager to see their 104 year old club drop out of the NSW Cup?

Surely there is some fight left in the Balmain Boys?

Yesterday, was a special time for us, tomorrow is a special time for our kids. Wests Tigers is the answer for a bright tomorrow.

Well said.
Live for the future, lets not dwell in the past…go the mighty Wests tigers

Doesn't look like Balmain Football Club have agreed to a joint NSW Cup side yet.

Balmain Football Club are yet to agree that if there is one State Cup side, it will be called Wests Tigers. Moves are afoot for a lobby for the one side to be called Balmain Ryde Eastwood and for a Bundy Cup side to also be called Balmain Ryde Eastwood.

They do not want a combined side( if there will be one) playing in Campbelltown. The Independant Commision will change all this when they introduce a National 2nd grade competition.

Yes the IC may introduce a proper 2nd tier comp but that will also mean no more nyc/toyota cup and it would also mean the immediate end of teams like newtown and norths and the exit of teams like mounties, wenty and windsor. Don't expect all those proposed changes to be smooth sailing also.
