It will be a monstorous effort if they can somehow get up today. 3 games against big, physical opposition of quality over 7 days is a huge task

Always a loss Smeg yesterday with the draw , but to lose only 10-8 away in Newcastle , with Newcastle having a 7 days prep was an awesome effort.

I have 4 gold season passes to the NR for 10 years or so …, but for the first time I since the partnership I cannot put myself out to go to away games & questioning using my members tickets for the home gypsy games ...1st grade for a while now has spent my passion , and if it wasn't for Robbie, Liam & the legend Aaron , I wouldn't use them. Lately

But for years now going to watch this team on a quiet Saturday I still see the passion for the jersey that both the crazed Balmain or Magpie fan can relate too.

I really believe this team can go all the way , if that keep Brooks there to mature & that 1st grade can get their team fit to finish off our wasted season due to injury& the poor retention. & requirement decisions if the last 4 years

Back from Newcastle after watching the boys.

We started the game with Bullock, Inosesio, Hitchcox & Madden on the bench after Iosefa pulled out injuried. Late in the 1st Half we lost Groat who was sick never to come back on, then about the middle of 2nd half lost Bullock injuried in a tackle so down to 2 on the bench.

Playing the 3rd game in a week Ava had to play almost the entire match, He had a small break middle of 1st half but that was it. Massive effort especially against a big pack.

The boys all put in a big effort, we had some chances to win the game but just couldn't finish it off but NEVER gave up.

If you can get to Leich Oval next Sat please do as the boys deserve the support & we know the Jets fans will be there in numbers.

NSW Cup: Wests Tigers slain by Knights

Wests Tigers went down to the Newcastle Knights in the NSW Cup on Sunday, losing 10-8 in a tight clash.

Wests Tigers lone try was scored by Jarred Farlow in the first half, which was converted by Sean Meaney.

Playing their third game in a week, after a make-up game on Wednesday night, Wests Tigers led 8-4 at half time as Meaney hit a penalty on the buzzer.

Newcastle opened the scoring early in the second half, with Josh Mantellato unable to convert his own try leaving the scores tied up at 8-all.

The Knights grabbed the deciding advantage in the 60th minute, Mantellato slotting a penalty to put Newcastle 10-8 up.

Scrappy play cost both teams points in the second half and led to a tense final few minutes however the Knights managed to hold the visitors out to claim their sixth victory of the 2013 season.

Knights 10 (T: Leilua, Mantellato, G: Mantellato 0/2, PG: Mantellator 1/1)
Tigers 8 (T: Farlow, G: Meaney 1/1, PG: Meaney 1/1)

Dianea,

Can you elaborate on Groat's sickness if possible please?

I would like him and/or Ava back in 1st grade this week.

It appeared he was actually being sick on the field & off possible congestion on the chest & trying to cough it up. I did hear that some players have had the flu recently but only guessing the cause.

I think Ava deserves another chance for sure if he has pulled up OK from the match after all he did play the majority of the match plus good minutes in the other 2 matches so might be a big ask especially against Souths Friday night but if selected he won't let us down.

i think the decision to take jack madden as 18th man to newcastle could've been a deciding factor in the Tigers' loss. especially with Iosefa being ruled out before kick-off. Luani was moved into hooker (which is great news after hearing he played well with origin around the corner) which left us down a forward. I cant help but think that if Pa'asi or Ha'angana or anyo of our other forwards were taken up instead of Madden then it might have been enough to swing the match in our favour. Poor coaching decision in my opinion

I imagine he took Madden to cover for a possible loss of Miller to UK pre-game…
