Wests Tigers ownership structure confirmed

I've come to the conclusion that this outcome must be positive. It got little or no coverage in the T*legraph so it can't be a bad thing for the Tigers, at least.

"Balmain Tigers would like to stress to members that the new ownership structure is not a takeover of the joint venture by Western Suburbs. In addition to two board positions, Balmain Tigers will also have an equal say in making recommendations to the full Board in all key decision making processes through the joint venture’s three board sub committees – Football (One Balmain representative and one Wests representative), Audit and Risk (One Balmain representative, one Wests representative and one independent) and Nominations (One Balmain representative, one Wests representative and one independent)."

Hmmm I'm not sure I would allow any Balmain representative to make recommendations on auditing and risk management.

Lets hope our Leagues club controlled board doesn't decend into this circus… liquid paper. Seriously??

Thankfully there are still 2 independants there to steer.

"Steer" is not the appropriate word. The independents are great in that they offer some outside experience and corporate expertise. It also keeps Wests in favour with the NRL's desire for greater corporate governance. But make no mistake Wests are running the club.

Ok, if you want to get technical. I meant that hopefully having a independant chair will ensure that the board meetings to not delve into idiotic behaviour like above.

We've still got some checks and balances, even though they aren't as good as what they were.
