Wests Tigers embarked on a three-day camp on the South Coast this week with Mick Potter giving his troops a change of scenery ahead of the 2014 season.

There was no shortage of hard work on the training paddock, with players sweating it out during field sessions at Gerringong Oval each morning followed by gym sessions at Anytime Fitness, Kiama in the afternoons.

The camp ran from Wednesday through to Friday and included various team-building exercises during the evening.

With the much-anticipated trial match against Penrith at Camden just one week away, the camp provided players and coaches with the chance to prepare for the first group of matches in a different environment.

Potter said it was a great opportunity to help the players bond, as well as put the finishing touches on a tough pre-season.

"I wanted to get the guys together and spend some time away from league as well as concentrating on our game itself," said Potter.

"We wanted to get them in a room, talking to each other rather than them being isolated.

"It really locks them away together where they've got to talk socially and talk about things we're going to achieve this year."

After challenging the players to tough training sessions in the strong South Coast sun, social sessions in the evening were a chance for the players to unwind and lay the platform for the group to take on the NRL season.

"We're getting the bonding, last night was some serious stuff," said Potter. "Some individuals gave some talks which I thought were very good.

"Some of the younger players got a lot out of it.

"Just being together is a really good thing for the players."

With the last of pre-season before trials begin winding up, the players were given one final testing session to build their conditioning.

"This is the icing on the cake as far as pre-season. We're nearly rolling into trials now," said Potter.

"We'll probably back off after this, this is probably the last of the really hard physical stuff."

The squad will split up next week, with a group players remaining in Sydney for the trial match against Penrith in Camden, while another group will travel to Alice Springs for the clash against Parramatta on the same night.
