Wests Tigers Private Ownership is that the Answer?

Absolutely 100% correct! If HBG dig their heels in and are not willing to sit down with the NRL,l then end of discussion.
Clubs with full Private Ownership are:
Broncos, Sea Eagles, NZ Warriors, South Sydney Rabbits,
Joint-venture and Consortia Model:
Gold Coast Titans, Melbourne Storm, St George- Illawarra Dragons.
Is Private Ownership a given for success NO! But the club under the licence-ship of HBG has been messy and desperate times require desperate actions. But yes if HBG stand firm on their resistance then the NRL may have e to bring them to the table for serious discussions. Mr V'Landy seems to exercise a lot of sway with all things NRL.

I am an old Wests Magpies supporter and I am not impressed with HBG so I apologise leaving out Maggie fans.
Though im pretty sure if im the N.R.L ceo i can hint that they will not be recieving a renewal of their license to participate in the N.R.L so may want to consider selling while their asset still has value.

Exactly man . The nrl owns the licenses literally like the nsw gov. Owns your drivers license . They give it to you for a nominal time , but ultimately if you’re not meeting the standards required to hold the license , they can revoke it at any time .
The issue is building a case that the HBG arnt meeting the minimum standards . I think as the nrl under Vlandys tenure has exploded with money and expansion being prioritised above all else that it’s debatable .
As a football fan though , HBG are a joke and are literally the worst owners in Aus sports . We are the pre- Steve Ballmer La clippers .
Realistically , we will have to wait until the magpies loyalists on that board die off in the next 10 years , and actual Ashfield demographic club attendees get in the board re. The Asian community that actually find that club … ultimately leading to them devaluing the nrl ownership and selling it off .
Until then the ownership group simply love the power , and being in control of the battler wests tigers . They see it as a mark of who they are . Whereas the rest of us see it for what it is ;an embarrassment and shameful .
Unless someone can blow up the debenture system I simply don’t see it .

If you want to force change, stop purchasing memberships.
It really is that simple. Stop buying merch.
Money talks.
How does that create the change though Tucker. Do you mean as in HBG.
If Wests Tigers lost all memberships wouldnt HBG be able to just throw more money in to keep propping us up. If HBG lost all members then they would certainly be unable to continue financially to support the club. I dont understand enough about the set up to see how the Wests Tigers losing members and money effects HBG who have squilians.

They clearly care not if they have a successful footy club.
I’m not sure the conspiracy theories about bringing the Maggie’s back are true, however I also think they are just ambivalent about the whole excercise. It isn’t their bread and butter.
Their focus appears to enjoy being the big dicks who own an NRL franchise.
It needs to become a huge pain in the arse for them to own the club. Losing games isn’t getting it done. Being flogged regularly isn’t getting it done. Player drama and terrible headlines doesn’t faze them.
Having to spend a lot more money to keep it going, may sway them.
That’s their language.

I get what your sayong now. Yeah, though its not their money, its the HBG group members. Theyre that narcessistic i dont think they care. We are just a toy they like to play with.

In CODE today, re the broadcast deal & private ownership:

THE CLUBS

NRL clubs are already flying.

You only have to look at the Melbourne Storm and the interest in buying a stake in one of the game’s most successful franchises to realise the interest in the code. Those talks kicked off before the game struck its mega deal with the Nine Network and global streaming giant DAZN.

Owning a rugby league club is becoming more attractive by the day, something South Sydney boss Blake Solly acknowledged this week. When it comes to private ownership, the Rabbitohs have led the way.

Their ownership group includes an Oscar winner in Russell Crowe, and two successful businessmen in James Packer and Mike Cannon-Brookes.

Plenty of others with deep pockets have come knocking on their door, and it is unlikely to stop as rugby league digests a deal that has changed the landscape in Australian sport.

“There’ll be more of an appetite from private individuals, consortiums, or institutional investors to invest in the sport,” Solly said.

“The revenue model is now very secure. Every club is, or really should be, profitable.”

“And there’s a sport that’s in great health with a good financial position of its own – and really looking at a 5-10 year period of more growth. “Who wouldn’t want to be involved in that?

“If you’re privately owned, that should make you more valuable.”

“We can never lose sight of the fact we’re still community assets though and that even the most private of teams has a special relationship with its community.”

“From a Rabbitohs point of view, I’m really excited about the opportunity to continue to build our business – buy assets that are revenue generating and make sure that the club’s here for another 120 years.”

I don’t think HBG would care if every member or supporter walked away. Would likely just result in a greater push to return as the magpies

To add to this - There is room in the NRL licence agreement around damage to the game financially and reputationally - if a whole supporter base walks away and memberships plummet, that sends a big message to the NRL to finally take the matter seriously.

Where in the agreement does it say that?

Do you have a copy of the agreement?

Snippets cited by the NRL during various court cases involving the NRL. See below example:

It is the responsibility of the central sporting administration to manage and grow the commercial interests of the sport (the NRL had grown revenue from $20 million in 1990 to over $500 million in 2018)

It is in the interests of all participants – including clubs and players – for the commercial interests of the sport to be protected

The sport’s reputation and its commercial value are intrinsically linked

It could be argued the running of the club and governance issues has impacted the commercial interests of the NRL and/or the Wests Tigers reputation amongst it's own fans has now impacted the NRL's commercial interests - less members, less crowds, media drama, less merchandise sales impacting royalties etc.

The full participation agreement is not public and that is common k owledge...I'm sure you were trying to find a gotcha on that one, but the snippets the NRL has used to argue certain cases before are cited above. It's not my opinion.
