Wests Tigers re-sign Zane Musgrove till 2024

Thought he looked good, was a dumb play but at least we have a forward with some punch.

We all wanted a player like Hetherington because of his aggression - he will spend more time on the sideline this year than Musgrove will.

A strong forward pack is all about a blend:

Workhorse: Tamou, Twal
Aggression: Musgrove, Mikaele
Mobile: Ofahengaue, Stefano

An enforcer is welcome, but that action was just plain stupidity. I turned off the game as he was marched from the field.

There is a lot if difference between scaring the opposition when sailing close to the wind and occasionally mucking it up, then comparing such to an idiotic shoulder charge that is almost guaranteed to cop a stint on the sidelines both during and post match.

He was just about best forward on the field.
And yes it was a careless action but I’m not getting hysterical about it.
It’s done and dusted ..... but I saw a good forward out there .... one I would select next to Tamou in our starting pack .... when and as soon as he is available.

He was very good and stood out amongst some elite props. Commentators singled him out a few times too saying how big he looks, promising signs if he can iron out the dumb things in his game

Seems crazy to me the level of disrespect this guy is getting. I watched him closely whenever he was on and he was toying with people out there. He was barely accelerating into contact and was making significant PCM every carry. Once he gets his match fitness up and starts taking hit-ups from the back fence it's going to be game over.
Agreed it's frustrating to lose him in an exhibition match for a shoulder charge, but every enforcer worth their salt will spend sometime on the side lines during a season, JWH, SBW, Jeremy Smith, Adrian Morley. Their unpredictability makes them great.

In the limited minutes he had with us last year he looked a step above all others. I think people will start to see why Madge dragged him here early this season.

Yeah the one where he got the ball flat footed off JMK I think it was, then basically piggy backed 2 defenders an extra 10 meters was insane lol. I do understand people’s frustrations though, if we are to do some damage this year in the forwards I think he is an integral part of our team. His best may possibly just be our most destructive forward.

Even the first game he played with us was an eye opener. I questioned his signing at first and didn’t get why souffs fans rated him so much, now I know why lol

Glad that he made up for his stupidity and more so that he apparently stayed for less money than others offered from next year.

Still, Zane is going to miss at least two matches for WT in a 25 round season because of his action, which will account for 8% of the scheduled matches.

Yeah I saw all three attributes on Saturday. Folded blokes in D, ran hard and poked through the line and played 30 mins+ straight. He looked very good and it was between him and Tuki for best Tigers player imo

I don't see him playing big minutes just yet and maybe never but he is one of those props that can get you on the front foot. Musgrove looks likely as well. Mikaele may also have an impact.

Then you get players like Twal, Joe O, Tamou and even Packer who can all contribute.

We also have T Simpkins who to me looks like he could be our lock. He has size and some skill.

I like the way our pack is developing.

I'm a big believer in learning from your mistakes - I would like to think Zane is smart enough to realise shoulder charging someone is going to result in a stint on the sidelines, but some people just never learn...

The shoulder charge was schoolboy stuff. Wasn't the games fault, its all on Zane that one!

Dislocated his finger in the set before the shoulder charged, id say he tried to protect it by using his shoulder rather than his arms.

Dumb but i can excuse that.

Trainers should have removed him from the play as soon as he was injured.

A club trainer would have but these mickey mouse games they dont care about your club.

It's a fine line with Zane. I really want Tigers to have an enforcer that is crazy enough to scare the opposition, but smart enough to skirt the edge of suspension whilst doing so.

BJ, Rusty and now Zane have plenty of "enforcement" in them, but it's of a very careless variety.

That being said, Marty Taupau and JWH have spent enough time on the sidelines between them, non?

Why if you are suspended in a trial, you cannot serve the suspension on trial games seems unfair to me.

Agree, but was it a trial match or a rep game?
Did you see the build up, they were ready to tear each other to pieces?

I enjoyed it all right up until my last minute of viewing and like the celebration of the indigenous cultures from both sides of the ditch that bring so much to the game as a whole, then left as Zane did.

Yeah he was carrying people all night! I agree I think he will be our X-factor in the forwards, but the front row depth is so great it doesn't matter if a couple guys get rubbed out for a couple matches during the season, we can rotate people and ensure if they are on the field they are effective. Even Packer will have a part to play this year.

So true, the best and hardest are out there to intimidate, front row forwards would be by far the most penalised. It's a fine line they run, but we need that agression. Go through the sides, the top sides all have an enforcer, maybe we have found one?
