Wests Tigers release Rob Lui

Holding on to him also be it guilty or not. Sponsors wouldn't look kindly on it. Or fans, as already shown in the membership forum.

Couldn't agree more Troy… all the years before Lui, NO FINALS!!
Last 2 years with Lui TOP 4!!
Do the Math!!
we won't recover from this to easily.... Miller isn't ready, And as soon as opposition get time to work on Moltz at 7.... They will tear him to peices!!!
This is a very sad, unfortunate day!!

Look at our whole side though, portraying Lui as the missing piece pushing us to finals is a bit much. Lui was part of a larger group of talent.

2009 and previous years have nothing on what we have had in 2010/11.

I agree with the tigers letting him go. But it's like carney. They are not learning anything. There is no punishment. ( other then what courts give out)

Yep agreed, and you can bet the courts will end up doing nothing much either. No justice for his missus and no consequences or rehab for Lui.

Do I really need to answer that. ???

In case I do.

If Lui didn't do anything wrong he would be a tiger still. Him doing what he has supposedly done has left us short a half back. The tigers lose out. As ink said he was starting to shine. We now need to start a new combination with miller/moltz and benji. 3 years we have spent on Lui in halves building that combo. Now all gone.

If Lui is free to play in the NRL next season, the only reason it won't be with us is because we released him. We are "out a halfback" as you said because we let one go to another club. If he was that vital to our premiership chances next season we would've held onto him and waited it out.

The only real difference between 2009 and 2011 is Robert Lui, Lote Tuqiri, Blake Ayshford, Aaron Woods & Simon Dwyer….

Sponsors have more of a say than you realise!!!

He has moved on to start a new chapter in his life.
if it all work out for him, then good.
if not, you reap what you sow

as for wests-tigers have an entire of season to mould new combo's.
if Miller does get to play some games at halfback give him a go and be patient.
would rather he progress well, than end up suffering badly from 2nd year syndrome.

And today's definition is "clueless" ladies and gentleman:

Adj. 1. clueless - totally uninformed about what is going on; not having even a clue from which to infer what is occurring
uninformed - not informed; lacking in knowledge or information; "the uninformed public"

I feel that we have lost the better player in terms of our future. Moltzen in my opinion is not the half back we are after, where as Lui had all the potential to be exactly what we needed.

At the end of the day it was extremely unlikely the Tigers were going to keep Lui after the second incident. I am fairly confident that the sponsors would have had a large say in the decision to let him go.

I can't knock the club for cutting him free, if the allegations are found to be true the kid had some serious problems and needs some serious help - I just hope he gets it. I am glad that he has been able to sign with another club to secure some kind of future - instead of being left on the scrap heap to deal with his demons.

The Moltzen/Lui saga is now finally over - so we can focus on 2012 and winning a premiership with a squad which is more than capable.

Robert Lui rumor >>>>> cowboys 2012
by smoking gun » Wed Jul 27, 2011 6:38 pm

I've been informed today that the nth QLD cowboys have officially approached wests tigers as to a release for Robert Lui. Take it for what it's worth I'm just passing on information that I've attained from a source within the club

It wouldn't hurt some in here to read through that thread and see who knew he might have been going and who flatly ignored what was happening. He was always going.

And for those who say 'How did they know this was all going to happen back then in July?', then I say pull your head out of your backside.

What a load of crap.

A good result imo. I know the club has put a lot into Lui's football development and as some have acknowledged he was starting to show the results particularly in attack. But its time for the club to cut its losses and move on giving an opportunity to a young bloke like Miller or slotting in Moltzen or maybe there is a new player coming to the club- who knows. Whatever the case, it was becoming too difficult to keep Lui at the club, again imo only, which wasn't helped by his desire to head back north.

Going back through smoking gun's posts.

He reckons we're about 250k under cap - that was before the Moltzen dramas but you could assume with retaining Moltzen and releasing Lui then we'd still be around that 250k under cap level. Unless his info changed since then.

He began the Lui to Cowboys 2012 thread which was started in late July.

Devil's advocate would say Lui conspired to provoke a release - but that of course is a messy conspiracy theory better left until post court decision.

Gives plenty of room for fans to speculate:
Will Cross sign for a swan song season?
Did we miss out on Dugan for 2013?
Will retaining Moltzen shift our focus on signing a half instead?
Do we make a play for DCE for 2013?

Why do people need to know things yesterday?
I know this is the age of instant info….but knowing in June or knowing in November makes a difference?
Take a breath, have some patience

I have to have my say…all you db's who thought Lui was ok..he was not a first grade player and it appears maybe not in first grade in other areas.. sad for his gf. Thank goodness he is gone,, now only one more year of Tuquri but unfortunately.. 3 years of that overpaid sloth from Melbourne...GET RID OF THE coach..

Smoking Gun has laid out the situation pretty clearly, yet subtly. If a few of you need it laid out in dot point form, then I'm disappointed with the level of IQ amongst us Tiger fans

Moltzen had little to do with Lui.

Good move by the Tigers. We don't need Lui and it now opens a clear pathway for Miller.
