Wests Tigers release Rob Lui

I'm not here to toot my horn or anything like that but to say moltzen and Lui incidents are related is totally false. The moltzen renege started in early September Lui has been seeking a release since last year wests didnt release him for 2011 because we had no adequate half replacement. The Lui release has been in the works for months. He was never playing for wests in 2012 if he could secure a deal.

Miller,Sironen and molts will play in the halves for the trials but molts has the inside running.

I think it's pretty poor to have shunted Moltzen from his preferred halves position for Lui, craft him into a good fullback and now put him back in the halves. Especially since apparently the WT have been aware that Lui wanted out as early as LAST YEAR.

Hope they're not looking to play young Sirro in the 7 jersey. This kid is only going to get bigger and he looks a lot more comfortable wider of the ruck. Plus his defence needs a serious overhaul if he's going to play FG.

Well I had suggested this a while ago with Sironen at HB
Ink didn't particularly like the idea (at all )
Well it might be closer to reality than most first thought
Why does everyone seem to have an issue about the size of their halfbacks ??

Do I really need to answer that. ???

In case I do.

If Lui didn't do anything wrong he would be a tiger still. Him doing what he has supposedly done has left us short a half back. The tigers lose out. As ink said he was starting to shine. We now need to start a new combination with miller/moltz and benji. 3 years we have spent on Lui in halves building that combo. Now all gone.

If Lui is free to play in the NRL next season, the only reason it won't be with us is because we released him. We are "out a halfback" as you said because we let one go to another club. **If he was that vital to our premiership chances next season we would've held onto him and waited it out**.

Sponsors have more of a say than you realise!!!

And they have every right to. Sponsors are major shareholders in the business, and they have the right to a say in such decisions.

Actually MacDougall that is a very good point

If Lui has wanted out why have we continued to push his barrow for him and help make him a good half for another club
Kudos Mac

Cherry Evans is not small and just won a comp

He's also not 6"4 and still growing either, plus he can tackle. Young Sirro had some shocking defensive efforts in the 20's this year and needs a massive improvement in this aspect of his game.

It's not so much his size Happy, but rather his ability to lead a side around the park at halfback. Young Sirro looks the goods at 5/8\. He doesn't have the organisational skills of Miller IMO. Not saying he couldn't make a good half, but you'd be a brave person to experiment by throwing him in the 7 jersey at 18 years of age in FG. If Benji were to go down injured then I'd be all for giving him a shot at 6 if Lawrence was not going to be moved.

Willow it wasn't if Lui was doing a fantastic job at leading them around the park in 2010 especially early on
Farah ,Marshall and Lui himself have said the same thing Maybe Benji and Farah can help him through the first 3 months I personally see more in Sirro than Miller overall as a player and looking to the future
But Miller is probably more advanced in attitude and responsibility for the seven role at this stage
All leads to an interesting few weeks of trials thats for sure

Miller's no Cement Gillespie either

I don't think half-backs need to be small, they just tend to be. Thurston's a decent size, Lyons was a stocky bloke, and there's something to be said for an HB that can make a decent line break, especially if he can get an offload to *sigh* Benji.

A good result imo. I know the club has put a lot into Lui's football development and as some have acknowledged he was starting to show the results particularly in attack. But its time for the club to cut its losses and move on giving an opportunity to a young bloke like Miller or slotting in Moltzen or maybe there is a new player coming to the club- who knows. Whatever the case, it was becoming too difficult to keep Lui at the club, again imo only, which wasn't helped by his desire to head back north.

Spot on, there was no way we could have kept him.

Image is so very important when dealing with potential sponsors and marketing managers who may not follow the game as closely as we do "Oh the Tigers aren't they the club that had a player that…no I dont think we want to be associated with that.

As far as i'm concerned while I was a fan of Lui's and thought he was a real talent I think the Cowboys have done us a favor, sadly i think he will fade away up north and become one of those guys that had all the talent but just couldn't get it together in their personal lives.

So, smoking gun, is the whole Lui assault case actually real or just fabricated? Would be pretty extreme to make something like that up just to get out of a contract I imagine. It's all very strange though 😕

Not happy at all that all our perseverance and investments is down the drain, However it had to happen.

I hope you get the support you need at this time.

Good Luck Lui

This is a very good decision by the club. I wrote previously that the club should not sack Lui; however releasing Lui to the Cowboys where he will be closer to his family is the best decision for Lui. I think it is a major loss to our club, but I think this will improve Lui's family life and that is more important than anything right now for Lui.

Congratulations to the club on this decision and I hope this proves helpful to Lui and his family.

As for replacements, Moltzen should get first shot. He has proven ability at both halfback and fullback, but halfback is a harder position to replace. Moltzen has a terrific passing and kicking game and will not take long to fit in at half. I don't think Miller is a solution.

Making a selfless decision like this highlights how well managed this club is. Congratulations to Humphreys for this decision.

Of course, but at the end of the day it was a decision made by the club to let him go. To say we've been short changed is wrong, we made the decision (with input from sponsors no doubt). If he is found guilty in court I doubt he'll be playing for the Cowboys next year anyway.
