JASON Taylor is expected to be sacked as Wests Tigers coach within 24 hours.

The Daily Telegraph understands the board members have made the decision to move in another direction after Sunday’s thumping 46-6 loss to the Canberra Raiders.

It had also become clear superstar fullback James Tedesco, skipper Aaron Woods, five-eighth Mitchell Moses and halfback Luke Brooks were not prepared to sign new contracts while Taylor was the NRL head coach.

All have hesitated in recent negotiations because of the uncertainty over the coaching position.

The players do not dislike Taylor but feel they need new direction to become better players and win a premiership at the Wests Tigers.

It is uncertain if Taylor will go immediately or stay for the remainder of the season when his contract is up.

Cowboys assistant coach Todd Payten or former Warriors and Panthers coach Ivan Cleary would presumably be ready to start immediately.

The Wests Tigers are expected to make the announcement on Taylor tomorrow.

Please, please god let it be Cleary and not Payten.

Tigers fans need to pray right now.

Payten? You're that optimistic?

It'll be Matt Parish or one of the dads of the ball boys.

I'm sure this is the same article they wrote after we were thrashed in Canberra last year, even down to the headline. Take it with a grain of salt. It'll happen, but whether its this week, i'd be surprised. In saying that, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Just please don't sign Payten. Please. He has disaster written all over him. We'll be having these conversations in another 2 or 3 years. Sound out Cleary before anyone else. Offer him full authority and free reign.

No way Cleary gets the nod. Too professional, too credentialled, too successful. More likely a sponsor's deadbeat, no-hoper brother than an actual coach. :brick:

Only from what I seen of Bret Kimoreley at the Bulldogs he knew how to read play when the opposition was coming at him, that is what our guys need, someone with brains to drill them. Have Bret as assistant maybe.

I agree. Cleary is the best option for sure. Payten would be a very bad choice.

Cleary would be great…he can bring his son too.

Pretty sure his son is locked in. I'd still want Toovey if it was to come to it. At least when we lose we'd have someone screaming blue murder at the presser.

Wouldn't this be great! Apparently a change of coach will have us winning instantly from next week (according to some on here). If it happens that way, I'd be happy…....but something in my brain makes me think it wouldn't make a scrap of difference. But Ive been wrong before.....

Interesting, we will have to wait and see. Hopefully they have a replacement ready to go and not take weeks and weeks to appoint a new (permanent) coach.

Tooves is coaching in the ESL isn't he?

I wouldn't mind him, he'd lose his mind after every loss.

Part of me is so excited, part of me says it is Rothfield reporting, please let this be one of the few scoops he gets right, and please sign Cleary.
